I agree definately. I guess we'll have to see next year. This might be the first CBM I won't be paying to see in cinemas. With all these things happening, my expectations (not that I really had any to begin with) keep getting lower. Who knows, it could be great but I'm gonna wait until the reviews start coming in before even considering buying a ticket.:oldrazz:

I didn't see X-Men Origins Wolverine or even The Wolverine in cinemas. Didn't see Thor: TDW or XM:FC there either. Tickets cost enough, and I've wasted money watching movies I didn't even like and came away hating, so there's no way I'm going to pay any money for FFINO. Still haven't seen XMO:W yet. Nor Green Lantern.

You're life is better off without those movies anyway lol.

I didn't watch First Class in theatres (I regret doing so but you cab understand why), I saw the Wolverine at a staff screening once. I used to work in a theatre, so I didn't really have to pay to see movies on first viewing.:oldrazz: I agree with you though, tickets cost enough as it is but I sometimes see films 4 times because I like them that much. For this FF reboot? We'll see but I doubt it's going to get my money.

first class was probably one of the first movies I saw (paid for) twice in theatres... was worth it

They're counting their chickens before they've hatched if that is the case. It's not like early tests have shown that it's likely to be a sure-fire hit or is looking very positive so far. If anything, they've had a ton of negative reactions and publicity. Their so-called green lighting of the sequel sounds like a load of hot air to give the appearance of confidence in their product.

Trank certainly wouldn't be working on any sequel since Disney have recruited him, and what other director would want to work on this POS, especially to have to make it in a similar style to this one?

Well, keep in mind that the only point is to stake out a date for the release of a sequel. It's not like they lose anything by setting the date. Most comicbook movies these days involve multi-film contracts and I'm sure this one is no different (it would have been done well before any buzz positive or negative anyway). I'm sure a second FF film and Star Wars Episode VIII can be both accommodated.

That being said, while my source wasn't directly IMDB, I think my information stems from IMDB so I'll proactively call BS on my own post. While I suspect they do have everyone locked down contract-wise (with the possible exception of Trank), I don't have any reliable information.

The movie industry is totally malleable. They recast roles, change directors, cancel intended franchises and so on, all the time.

That announced sequel date is just a place holder at this time. It has not been greenlit yet as some seem to think and likely won't be until they see how well this one does.

If this bombs Fox will quietly remove that from their line up.

Oh I would think they would have this cast signed up for a mutli picture deal (probably 3), but Fox don't have to make them. Eric Bana was signed up for 3 Hulk films iirc (Norton may have been too). I'm sure Ryan Reynolds was signed up for a few GL films as well.

But if a film underperforms and the studio doesn't see the franchise as worth pursuing (least not as it is) those contracts are dust. They are more an option the studio can hold the actors to than a commitment the studio has to fulfill.

Maybe MBJ will demand that Fox make all the sequels, whether or not anyone else is involved anymore, even if he has to play all the roles himself a la Eddie Murphy. :oldrazz:

Just think: if he did end up playing Sue as well in a demanded sequel (well, demanded by him), this would be the first CBM where there's an extremely strong family resemblance between siblings. :hehe:

I didn't see Captain America, Thor or Avengers or Green Lantern or any of the Dark Knight ones I theatres. Saw them all on DVD. I really like those first two and the latter Batman ones.

You're right that Tickets cost a bomb now plus the need to buy foods and drink for the longer movies.

Next year the only movies I'm likely to go see are Jurassic World, Fantastic Four (if I like the trailers) and Star Wars

I sneak my own in. Usually carry a jacket over my arm that has inside pockets, so plenty of room to discretely stash a couple of cans of something fizzy, snacks etc. Never been pulled up yet, lol.

Don't about the US but here in the UK the cost of a coke and some popcorn is near enough as much as the ticket. Bugger that.

I have never once "needed" to buy food at the theater. The ability to sit for two hours without eating saves me big $$$

A GF (or friend's GF) with a big huge purse is great for this.

A 3d ticket is $7.50 at my joint; a large drink + large popcorn is $10. And this is a smallish theater in a more rural area. i can't imagine what prices are in a big city.

I know the theater has costs to cover but damn.

I buy movie theater food only because that's the only money that goes to the actual theater. Especially if I'm lucky enough to go to an Alamo Drafthouse.

The last CBM movie that I saw and loathed in theater was Green Lantern. I won't be seeing this F4 in theaters unless I get free passess. It might even be an interesting take, and the stranger this production and leaks get, the more intriguing it gets (in a train wreck sort of way). I'd rather the F4 in the MCU, as "space time adventurers/scientists", because that's their best fit.

I've seen every major 2014 CBM and two of them twice (TWS,GotG) in theaters. Both of those were worth it.

I have no need in spending money on the garbage sold at theaters. Id much rather spend my hard earned money at an actual food and drink establishment before or after. I have enough control to sit for 2 1/2 hours without the need to stuff my face.

.

Sneaking in is always a good go-to for food. But over the last year, my local theater's had some great coupons...which I usually use if I don't go with somebody with a large enough purse. The coupons are usually a free food item with a drink purchase. The drinks are usually the cheapest and affordable thing...to me at least...so thats a win-win for me when I go solo.

I buy my coffee at the theater when going to movies, and maybe a beer every once in awhile, but for the most part I bring in my own candy.

When I worked in a movie theatre I usually got a discount on food and drinks. Sometimes we would even get stuff for free. Those were the good days.

I had a friend that was a weekend manager of a theater near me, I got into the movies free from time to time, I didn't over use her kindness. If I got in free, I bought my candy and drinks at the movies.

Getting drinks, especially coffee, before a movie is madness, especially if it is a long movie. You'll definitely want to pee. My policy is not to drink anything at least an hour before and to make sure to use the restroom as near as possible to when the movie starts.

For Guardians of the Galaxy, people were going in and out of the theatre the whole time. Stupid incontinent audience! :argh:

Hearing someone having coffee at a movie theater is a first for me. What's next tea and crumpetts at the matinee?

Yeah it's like that here in the US too (at least the area I live in).

I've started to become fond of a small local chain that serves substantial meals in a more restaurant-like setting. The tickets are cheap(er), the food is reasonably priced and decent, and the screens are smaller but still a good size. I'd rather pay $15 for buffalo wings and a root beer float rather than $10 for popcorn and watered down soda.

Coffee doesn't make sense to me either, but I would totally go in for a pot of tea and scones. At least there's a comfort food aspect to it.

I pretty much never eat anything at the theater.

My friend (who got me the job at the theatre) used to do that and snuck me into some screenings until he started making me pay for the screenings-.- There's nothing more satisfying than watching a film for free.:woot:

Heresy!:o

There is a Starbucks in the theater that I go to....
