Fantastic Four reborn! - - - - - - - Part 16

This is what those of us on this side of the argument don't get. I could get really pumped for a FF movie, as they have always been my 2nd favorite Marvel franchise, but when the film seems to bear no resemblance to the FF I know, I cannot get excited about it.

Well not all fans are the same to say the least. I am a big Resident Evil fan and the movies completely suck but since I love Resident Evil, I support the films and I pay money once there's a new film coming out. Its the same thing here with Fantastic Four and I'm reserving my final judgment until I saw the film.

I have hope for the film because of josh Trank. I thought what he did with Chronicle was no less than amazing. Apparently the folks at Disney agree, his previous movie could of been and probably should of been forgettable. It's a rare occasion when a great director(possible he could be one) decides direct in this genre. They get the most out of their actors when you need it the most.

I think Josh is a fantastic director based on his directional debut. I also think the actors they hired are terrific especially Kate Mara but the writers they hired for the film... jeremy slater, Simon Kinberg... that is something to be concerned of. For me, I am putting my expectations very low so I wont hate it that much if the film turned out to be bad but if its great, then I would be very happy. I did the same thing anticipating Days of Future Past. I lowered my expectations yet I still remained positive.

I wont lie, i get the Resident Evil films out of $5 bins, but i no longer see that garbage in theaters... 1 was a good film, 2 was ok, and then they went down hill from there...

I won't support that franchise's box office like i no longer support Bayformers. crap is crap.. no point in helping contribute to a crap-tastic franchise that should be rebooted as soon as possible

Exactly. TF4 was the first of the franchise I chose not to see. I get being a fan, but you're not doing yourself any favors by throwing money at what you know is terrible. It just helps fund more terrible.

I'll go see this first movie, but if its utter garbage, I wont be paying to see the sequel If there ever is one.

That is the worst feeling. You can't concentrate on the movie because you're trying to anticipate when would be the best time to take a toilet break so you don't miss anything, but how can you know? It could be an important piece of expository dialogue or a sudden action scene. And if you do decide to stay and hold out, you're kind of just wishing the movie away, hoping it will end sooner so you can eventually go. So you can't really enjoy at all.

That totally happened to me when I saw Guardians, I held it for like 40 minutes and more. Then after that there was a line to the rest room.

I was not drinking but I was only wearing shorts so maybe that was reason why it happened to me.

you know.. there's an app for your phones that tell you when the best time to pee is.. and even gives you a run down on what's happening when you're gone

That makes sense, but the comment I was replying to was about the general audience being able to accept a black parent adopting a white child.

I don't think a reverse take on "Different Strokes" is the issue here.

It's not like Hit Girl was black in the comics but Hollywood decided this film needed diversity.

This character's origin was turned on its head for the soul purpose of a director giving his buddy a solid.

Yeah, shorts aren't good for movies. I make sure to always wear jeans and bring something to cover with.

I think they should install flat screens in the toilets for paying customers so that they can still see what is going on in the movie when they need to go. It could just be a satellite feed so it's relayed to the other screens at the same time. That way you won't miss anything. You could potentially sit on the toilet and watch the movie from there. :hehe:

Of course, this could only be for customers who have actually paid for the movie. I don't know how this would work in practice. You'd have to have separate toilets for each screening room so that only people from Guardians could see the continual Guardians footage.

For FFINO, I imagine that when they sit down on the toilet bowl, on the screen in the toilet would just be POV footage of them doing their business where you just see pieces of **** dropping down. :o

This. If ever there were nepotism at play in a movie casting, whether or not it fits the part, here is a prime example.

I get the feeling this probably hurt the F4 as an entire brand

Which is probably why Marvel is cancelling the comic run. They don't want their brand being hurt by this film, so they are going to completely disassociate themselves from this production.

After the flop happens, they will probably reintroduce the characters in a big way.

Movie wise, they aren't worried about this as Guardians has effectively become their "Fantastic Four" (or 5 rather).

:funny: When I see a really good film, I tell my friends it's a 'bladder burster' - It's so good you won't want to miss any.

FFINO will be a bladder burster of another kind. You'll want to run to the nearest stall in disgust to dump all those horrible memories along with that night's dinner.

I agree with this. I really liked the first one. Probably one of my top zombie movies, but the franchise was on a definite decline.

I also agree, there's no reason to support a bad interpretation of a product.

Another example for me is the Percy Jackson films. I am such a huge fan of the books, and it was fun reading those with my son. But the movies were just a disaster. I have to give some credit to the second film, as they finally decided they should be more faithful to the books, but the fact was they blew it already. They lost the core audience with the first film, and the second film, the studio screwed up the marketing, allowed too much time to pass, and to say it was a flop is an understatement.

I see alot of parallels between Sea of Monsters and this film. Under-budget, a disinterested studio, and actors that are contractually obligated but probably wanting to do other things.

Pretty much. That actually helped ease my anxieties about this film. I just saw the positive of the situation in that we'd never have gotten Guardians if FF were at Marvel, so it turned out to be a blessing in that respect. Still though..

Why? I don't understand this. Why do you support something that you admit sucks? Why do you reward mediocrity? It's not going to help the property that you actually care for, because as long as you support the crap they're making that's what they'll continue to make.

As far as the script goes there is a saying attributed to Dave Mustaine that says "It's not how big your pencil is, its how you write your name.". Which i apply to meaning in this instance as, not so much what you say but how you say it. Its like when two guys approach the same girl with same exact line but one says it with feeling and the others going through the motion. Most women I imagine are going to choose the guy who seems more genuine if all other things are equal.

We may have a new marketing strategy: "Fantastic Four - Have a hearty meal at KFC before you go and it won't ruin your enjoyment."

Not many films can make that claim.

That's like telling starving and sick children in Africa that they should be grateful they're getting any kind of water when they're forced to drink dysentery water that will make them even more sick and kill them.

And this production is like dysentery, with diarrhea running quickly out of Fox's creative asses as they seek to hold onto the rights.

I know I shouldn't be laughing but this made my day.:funny:

There are enough comic book films out there now that if this one doesn't give me what I want, I'll just skip it and go see one of the other ones that do deliver instead. I didn't see the other two in theaters either, only on television later.

Or "Fantastic Four - Have a hearty meal at KFCINO before you go and you'll wonder why the chicken is so gritty and seems to resemble spam instead."

Had an amusing moment this evening watching a re-run of Stargate SG1's 200th episode. If you have not seen it, it's a jokey meta sort of thing with the team talking with the producer of a crap TV show that had been based on them about ideas for a movie. They had riffs on Star Trek, Wizard of Oz, Farscape (cute in-joke as 2 of the cast were in that as well), even Thunderbirds/team America.

What made me chuckle most though was the 'younger & edgier' segment...

It just reminded me of how this thing looks, and mirrors the reactions of a good few of us round here to it at the end, lol :cwink:

Fox is clearly going to be targeting that 15-24 demo that is still ill-informed about the politics between Hollywood Studios along with the blowhard FF fans that will see this based on the name alone. That's their only chance to break even if they've given this a 100 million dollar plus budget. The problem I have with that strategy, from a business perspective, is they really don't have that solid draw. As hip as MBJ may be, he hasn't had a break away role yet. Mara is pretty old for that demo and not bombshell hot. You have marginal talent with the other heroes, neither of whom are teen girl heartthrobs.

So while I understand the lack of marketing and exposure, I don't get the casting decisions. Maybe they have something big with Doom, but without any real buildup to him, it could be worse than Ben Kingsley's Mandarin after the twist. I just don't think Trank is on the same page with what the producers really want, and they gave him too much freedom to avoid having him walk off the set and relive another Daredevil scenario.

Trank is going to go for a serious take that is simply going to miss that demo, Ang Lee style, although without even the novelty of the FF, since it's the second reboot.

Because I want to see the characters and how things work out so I can judge it for myself. I also don't watch films online especially bootleg copies and it takes like 4 to 5 months before the official DVD comes out.

Also the fact that I still follow the films, like reading news, checking pictures online, watching trailers, despite all the negative things, I might as well spend 2 hours inside the theater and 4 dollars which I would only do once for the film.

That's just ridiculous.

And thats your opinion. Don't tell me, you never paid money for a movie that didn't turn out to be good. And whether I watch a bad film in a theater or not, is my choice and nobody's business.
