Really? Ollie's at his best when fighting supervillains? Merlyn is his most popular villain, and his most well-received stories feature him fighting drug lords (Year One), social issues (Yeah, Green Lantern was there. But the whole point was bringing Hal back down to Earth.) ninja assassins (Longbow Hunters), and a hitman who speaks in sound effects. Yeah, there's Quiver, but I doubt demons and resurrection are what you guys are talking about.

And he shouldn't be able to beat a room full of people with guns using only a bow and arrow either, but he still does. So he's still going up against something he shouldn't be able to conquer, but does.

I didn't say you couldn't have different views. If you like him fighting supervillains better, that's fine. Go nuts. Just that he tends to shine and the stories have more impact in the long run when they're more grounded in their approach.

I don't think anyone has said your not allowed to have your own view, some of us just don't agree with it. Since this is a forum I think we are allowed to discuss that.

For me, I like the realistic take on the character. GA in the comics has been less than stellar and you can only point to about 3 stories that have received wide praise. Two of them involved a very grounded story with no supervillains.

You seem to think that adding supervillains will somehow improve the quality of the show. I think its the complete opposite.

I like the changes they have made to the character. Giving him a family dynamic separates him from Batman. Not everything from the comics is golden, they have a lot of bad ideas. Deviating from the character is a good thing since they haven't been able to create a consistent run of quality in the comics. Maybe these silly ideals need to be given some weight in order to have drama. Yes he's a bleeding liberal, but this is a tv series and you need to have something more to hang your hat on that is interesting for more than 1 episode. There is also nothing to say that as he progresses his views won't be more aligned with that.

As for the review you're referencing on comic book movie about the show thinking its gritty. Please, everyone with an internet conenction is a critic, doesn't mean its somehow fact. Didn't he also say the pilot was worse than smallville on its bad days. Something tells me he never watched smallville because it had some of the worst storylines I have ever watched.

Ollie wasn't training to be Green Arrow... he was training for American Ninja Warrior!

I surprisingly enjoyed the pilot. It was much better than what I was anticipating. The writing and acting aspects of the show were very solid (the lead and cast deserve a thumb's up), but the parkour and fight choreography easily stole the show. Very impressive debut, overall. I absolutely loved the final five minutes. I think the CW has a true winner here. This show has potential, but it's in the hands of the writers. Anywho, a great start.

As for Ollie's capabilities, it's not difficult for one to train him or herself into a force of nature without a sensei.

I'm going to reserve judgement on the white hair chick I saw in the preview. I'm not familiar with GA or his rogue gallery, so I don't really know who she is, but I didn't like that wig. It reminded me of the travesty of Halle Berry as Storm in the X-Men. It's just BAD....

The pilot was kind of up and down, for me. The worst part was the stupid voice over narration from amell at various points in the episode and hopefully the dialogue between characters is tweaked a bit, just wasn't a fan.. I also think amell should do something with his voice when in costume. Not talking Bale-extreme but just something. to me, Anyone with half a brain should be able to tell who Green Arrow is by the way he talks..I thought the action was pretty stellar though.

I'll definitely give it some time to hit its stridebut but hopefully it's sooner rather than later. Hopin' for the best.

Those white wigs never look any good. They couldn't get it right for storm and that was a movie.

I enjoyed it well enough.

I didn't much care for the overage of narration, which I found heavy-handed in some cases. GA snapping that guy's neck was a bit of a shock, but I say I really cared all that much. Unlike the party boy scene, which fell a bit flat for me and seemed forced in.

Amell comes across as a damn good lead. Good subtleties in his performance. The supporting cast seems like a lot to juggle, but his interactions with most were enough for me to buy in, particularly with the inevitable dynamic with Dinah and Merlyn.

Overall, I thought the pilot had a great tone and it's enough for me to break my CW embrago... for now cmad. The quality of the action scenes surprised me. It's a different Ollie than I'm used to, but I'm interested in seeing where it goes.

As others have noticed, the Batman Begins influence was telling and it made me rather (more badly) want a Batman live series. Ahh well.

Oh I agree. The wig is terrible. I doubt there is any angle or static view that will make it look better for me.

They should have used a lace front wig. As it is, the one she is wearing looks like the pink wig Sam Jackson is wearing in PowerCosmics avatar...lol.

The wig looks cool in motion but in the comic doesn't China have white hair? Kelly Hu suggested she's around 70 years oldish so maybe that wig is supposed to be a wig.
