I went to the madhouse of IMDB: and read this little gem: This movie is already ripping off Thor.

Oh good Grief. That's a ignorant person that needs a quick education on who's really ripping off who.

I loved this interviewer guy! lol Great questions and great answers. Thanks.

He did an equally good series of interviews on the TDKR press junket, where even Nolan and Bale were surprised by the questions. It's on YouTube somewhere. :yay:

Yeah can you imagine him on the beach and not being ripped. Then on some newspaper "CAVILL AIN'T NO SUPERMAN"

Can't wait for The Tonight Show!!! I wonder if we will get new footage/extended scene....

Cool interview. It's kinda sad how
self conscious he seems to be about his body but then again people and the entertainment media are extremely mean to actors who aren't always in Superhuman shape.
The media is very cruel. They were very quick to rag on Gerard Butler a year after 300 completely ignoring his jaw-dropping physical achievement for that film.

Cavill has said he doesn't have the kind of ego where he needs to have an eight pack even when he is not shooting a movie.

I was definitely thinking about Butler. He wasn't even filming a movie where he had to be in shape and yet he is evil for not having great 300 abs. The truth is it's a waste of time to be in that kind of shape when you aren't shooting a film. I don't expect nor do I care if actors are totally ripped all the time. If they want to be fine, if they don't fine.

It also limits the type of characters you can play because every role isn't going to require a Superman physique.

I actually disagree, I think being fit and healthy is great for all people not just actors playing superheroes.

But Superman fit is not his natural state so I stand by my comment that it is a waste of time to always be in that kind of shape.

I'll ask it point blank, do you think that anything less that rippling muscles and six pack abs are unhealthy?

Yeah, it's great to be fit outside of prepping for a role as long as you're doing it for yourself. A lot of roles don't require that kind of look and physical dedication though, and my sense is that most actors/actresses don't want to be typecast for the rest of their lives.

It is not a waste of time to always be in that shape if it makes you feel good about yourself and you enjoy it. Granted, as an actor, Cavill probably has a better choice of roles if he is not always in Superman shape. He got very big for the role.

However, you kind of have point regarding the health of always being in top shape. Although Cavill's body never got that low, even for the shirtless scenes, maintaining the ultra low bodyfat, highly defined look that you associate with a lot of fitness models is actually not really healthy. The human body is meant to carry a little bit of bodyfat and going really low can screw up a lot of the body's workings. Those models tend to diet down for a limited period of time before photoshoots or contests or what have you and spend most of their time at a higher bodyfat percentage.

Not even runway models are THAT thin ALL the time. It actually made me relieved to read about it. :funny: Like actors and fighters, they diet and exercise a few weeks before they need to, to get to their lowest possible body weight, then relax a bit in between. Nobody can keep that up without extremely adverse health effects.

And yeah, the rippling muscles look isn't really that healthy. Bodybuilders are actually at their weakest at a competition, because of all the terrible things they do diet-wise to get their muscles to show underneath the body fat.

I weightlift casually, and even though my bodyfat is extremely low for a woman (my ribs show even though I'm at a normal weight, barely), my legs are starting to look "fat" because of all the muscle.

That kind of look is actually unhealthy. Look at Cavill in Immortals, he was ultra-cut for that, at 5% body fat. He was looking insanely shredded and badass but he said he actually felt faint a lot of the times because he was on a very restricted 2000 calorie diet or so, so that he did not have even a single ounce of fat on his mid section for all the abdominal definition to show.

He would try to conserve as much energy as possible because he would get tired and he felt hungry all the time. And he would be grumpy due to lack of food and energy.

You CANNOT live like that. You can do it for a movie or photoshoot if you have to show a fully cut eight pack but for normal life, this would be really bad and unhealthy.

Yeah he's kind of given that off through recent interviews but it's totally understandable.

Do you guys know this about Cavill?

He's a Huge Nerd

He didn't pick up the phone when Zack Snyder rang to tell him he'd gotten the coveted part because he was in the middle of a game of World of Warcraft.
Read that as well. He admitted he wasn't a gamer per se but he probably enjoys games here and there.

Funny how he nearly missed out due to playing WoW... Never ceases to make me smile.

Never thought of it that way. Good to know. I can't imagine a lot of these actors' training diets/exercises that are persistent throughout shoots. It's such hard work and sacrifice.

He got up at 4 to train then filmed for 12 hours or something crazy like that (every day.)

Its a process. Now they don't have to maintain the eight pack throughout the shoot unless they are shirtless throughout (like say Butler in 300 or Cavill in Immortals). Normally, they peak for a week or two where they reach their most highly cut stage and that is when they film all their shirtless scenes and then they go to their normal routines again. Hemsworth in Thor and evans in CA both peaked for a single day, filmed their shirtless shot and then relaxed again.

For Man Of Steel, Cavill says the leaning phase lasted 6 weeks. That is he was on low calorie intake for 6 weeks and then 1 week of shooting for shirtless scenes. After that he could return to a more manageable routine.
