The art is great. The story is not. It has the worst or lowest moments for Superman from BvS, but so much worse. The treatment of the female characters ruins it entirely. Even Waid has expressed regret about how he wrote Lois and Diana. He feels it was so bad that he doesn't trust himself to write Wonder Woman at all...ever. It's moderately okay as an elseworlds, but as a mainstream story in the DCCU, it is not appealing. I'd much rather works like All-Star Superman be adapted, with some changes to make the story work in this universe, then anything like Kingdom Come.

Agree to disagree. The only thing I like from All-Star is Supes' zen like attitude.

Definitely disagree with this, it's a superb story IMO but to each their own.

I love All Star Superman but you can't do that with the DCEU Superman. For one he's already 'seemingly' died. I say do All Star as an adaptation years down the line with a new cast as a two movie event.

I love Lex Luthor in that story. The chapter with Clarke talking to him in prison is the best one IMO.

That just might be my favourite moment between the two characters in any story ever.

There is a .01% chance KC is ever adapted. I think you all are taking a tweet (that seemed like a joke) a bit too seriously. :)

Yeah, Lex was pretty good too. I feel like Moore accomplished what Morrison did, but better. And with a Silver Age version of Superman no less.

I agree Kingdom Come works best in a non-canon situation, or else we run the risk of having a universe overshadowed by the knowledge of the gloomy fates of certain characters a la Logan.

All-Star Superman seems a bit too whimsical for this universe now.

Speaking of Lex - what does everyone want from him going forward. To be honest, while our DCEU Lex is very different, I'm going to get chills the next time I see Jesse's Lex on the big screen. Arkham will have changed him.

Less weird, more charismatic.

Kingdom Come is the hes test graphic novel bar none for me. If they ever adaptation that (loosely or not) I would be ecstatic. It's a brilliant Superman story and a brilliant story in general.

As I've said in the past, if KC is done justice (no pun intended) it could become the first comicbook film to win an Oscar for best picture. It such a good written story, but as Watchmen (one of favourite my cbm) has shown; adapting a great GN is very difficult task.

I'd also add Alex Ross's Justice to that group:

DC has so much great material, hopefully they'll use it effectively.

I have things about All-Star I dislike, too. I don't like how Lois is written, for instance. When I mentioned it, I included the idea that it would have to be a loose adaptation. So, my hope with any of these classic stories, if they were adapted, is that only the best aspects that actually can be adapted be used. Since I think that would be rather difficult in any circumstances, I think the chances of seeing either story in any real way are probably slim. In terms of message and plot, though, I'd prefer a tweaked All-Star to a tweaked Kingdom Come. Your mileage seems to vary, though, and I can respect that.

Again, it wouldn't have to be a total replication. Instead of death threatening Superman, it could be that he believes he is losing his powers. You couldn't do, and I wouldn't want, the plot about Lois learning his secret either; so that would have to be removed. Her having a day with powers, though, could be fun minus the macho rivalry with Samson, etc. It's such an episodic story that it could be easy to adapt parts of it as opposed to the whole of it.

I doubt it would be too. I just felt like registering my feelings about it, because it means a lot to me. I'm cool with dropping it, though, and discussing Justice League again. For example, I'm in the camp that would be okay with some teases of Superman in a trailer and in the marketing. It doesn't have to show him alive, but things like his repaired suit, a voice over saying something like "Is that him? It can't be," which could be ambiguous, or quick cuts of happy Martha and Lois without showing why could work for me. I definitely think there are ways of hinting at Superman's role (presence, lack of presence) without explicitly giving away his resurrection.

I want him to begin to think bigger and more grandeur in his view of the universe as well as his place it. My favorite Lex is mad scientist Lex especially in DCAU. He didn't care about Superman anymore because he'd tasted real power in the form of Brianiac's bonding. He's done something similar with the kryptonian ship. So I hope when he comes out, he doesn't feel small next to Superman, but sees him as an insect in his way to ultimate power.

Seems like the logical next step.

A Lex who is more composed. Who seems more in control, at least on the surface.

The type of guy who would tuck in his tie and straighten his jacket after the mini shockwave from Superman's superhero landing messes up his clothes.

Got to say I despise All Star Superman...
I don't hate it but I definitely don't put it on a pedestal like many. I've more enjoyed other Supes books like For All Seasons, Secret Identity...

Heck, I even liked Landis's American Alien more than ASS. :oldrazz:

My favorite part of All Star is issue #10

I feel like that page right there is the perfect ending to a Justice League film franchise. The League takes on Anti-Monitor, and only Earth Q survives.

On a serious note, even if there is a dystopian future where Lois Lane dies, I would like Clark to be alone in respect for her memory.

Lois and Clark's relationship kind of reminds me of Rocky and Adrian Balboa's. Rocky may be an unheralded sports icon who defeated an unstoppable killing machine of Ivan Drago in the sport of boxing, but the Rocky movies true heart and soul hinged off of Rocky and Adrian's relationship and I always felt the same should be said about Lois and Clark's, atleast in theory.

I never minded exploring a Kal and Diana relationship for some of the reasons misslane pointed out and broke down the meaning of what Elseworld's are designed to do, but to me, it all boggles down to Lois and Clark's relationship and I believe what makes up that dynamic is one of the biggest parts, if not the most important, aspect of the Superman mythos. In "Rocky Balboa" when Rocky is shown mourning Adrian is one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen in cinema because those two were the epitome of love and togetherness and we grew with that relationship with them. Lois and Clark should always follow that same formula.

Glad to finally see Patrick Wilson with the main Aquaman cast. :woot:

Just imagine if we didn't know Doomsday, Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman and Cyborg cameos were in the film before its release. Just imagine. Omg.

They could've took advantage of that. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to Justice League and its surprises.
That really would've set the fanboy world on fire. Even just one or two of those surprises left in the film would've been enough to gather gargantuan responses. But practically every single one was unnecessarily released to fans over the course of production. I really don't get it. If there was one film to coast off the hype of the premise alone, it was this one.

A recent film went the modest route of letting a "surprise" be left for the audiences to experience in the theater. Personally, it was the most euphoric cinematic experience I've ever had and I thank the director for giving such a rare and precious gift. I wish more creatives had this tact.

I feel like that page right there is the perfect ending to a Justice League film franchise. The League takes on Anti-Monitor, and only Earth Q survives.

And then we get our soft-reboot, completing the much needed course correction which soars the DCEU into a joyous renaissance for years to come! :mrk:

Earth-Q is supposed to be our reality. So if there is a soft reboot that takes place in Earth-Q then maybe the movie would be about the making of a DCEU reboot. Any ideas on who should play the Earth-Q Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Cyborg actors?:o
