I absolutely love this movie. Finally getting to watch the bonus features now. It's incredible how passionate everyone was on this production. The suits design special feature just made my jaw hit the floor. I'm a sucker for art, design and seeing these images turned into physical objects and props. I don't care what the haters say but i will be supporting this movie. I've bought the 4 exclusives for the home video release. This is the first time I do that.

I find it weird that this thread is still ongoing. Was it really that good of a movie to warrant it?

Just started reading the movie novel and it's got the missing scenes from the trailer (not in the bonus features of Blu-Ray). Zack's intro is different to what we got in the movie. Should be really interesting to see if there is the morphed scene with Zack in it.

I really loved this film especially after watching it again on Blu-ray.

ILM did not work on Power Rangers. I don't know if it was due to the lower budget, the production timeline, or availability.

The VFX vendors that did are Digital Domain, Image Engine, Pixomondo, Method Studios and Scanline VFX. Basically the studios that Marvel Studios farm out to when ILM and WETA can't do it all.

If a sequel gets greenlit, they can't really slash the budget unless they want to look like the TV show (the only way I could see LGF reducing the budget is if they have another studio putting up half the budget). I can see some ways the studio can trim costs, but one of the problems of the first movie was not enough action. They can do the fight scenes more practically like the show (less CGI), but they have to splash out on the Zord-on-monster spectacle.

I honestly was surprised how much was shot practically, after watching the Blu-Ray special features. Wouldn't the sequel be cheaper now that they have all the suits, Zords and CG models of the Rangers, putties etc?

What sequels are cheaper and don't look it?

Well they laid the ground work so the sequel can delve deeper. If they get a sequel, they need to aim to kill it.

Whoever is casts for Tommy (boy or girl, I don't care) needs to be picked with careful consideration. If Zedd is brought in, they need a big name to play him.

What I think the sequel needs to do:

The Rangers' relationships- they bonded well in the first so we need to see their relationships grow as high school students, as individuals and as Rangers

More High School- I think they should show more high school life or just enough to show them balance life as students and superheroes

Unmorphed fight- We need an unmorphed fight; whether it's the Rangers fighting some remaining Putties (Rita made a lot of them) or the new foot soldiers for whoever is the sequel's big bad, we need to see one of the aspects that made the show popular

Zordon and the rest of the Universe- Of course if Rita isn't back we're getting a new big bad. Whoever descends on the Rangers should ultimately garner the question of who else is out there...

The World and the Zeo Crystal- The world will undoubtedly know about the Rangers in the sequel so we should see the reaction the world has had to their appearance and what that means...the Zeo Crystal just open the to door to so many opportunities

The Green Ranger- I just see the Green Ranger being a wild card... I see the Green Ranger not aligning himself/herself with anyone at first... a rogue Ranger kind of echoing Rita but without evil intentions but not exactly the best intentions either

For the Green Ranger I'm definitely thinking Winter Soldier like from the second Captain America movie. I saw someone mention Dylan O'Brien on FB for Tommy Oliver.

How would they do the Winter Soldier with Tommy, when he already exist in the world?

If a sequel gets made we know Rita is most likely coming back. I think that would be a good opportunity to alter some aspects of their version of the character to align it more with the original series. Have her create spells, maybe alter her look. I think a big missed opportunity with this movie was that we really didn't see her spells or magic she's able to do. Maybe have her create a spell to not only create the Green Ranger candle, but also to bring back Goldar.. this time the Goldar we are used to. Have her find an animal and morph it into the Goldar we're used to, then have her find remnants of the gold from the first movie and give this Goldar the gold sword, armor, etc. And don't use him as this boss type. Have him lead large groups of puddies, fight the red ranger one on one, etc.

I think the issue with getting a sequel made in general is cost. They couldn't even include the rangers signature weapons due to budget constraints.. How do you suppose they introduce a new ranger, a new zord for that new ranger, a new villain, more action, the list goes on.. That would require a bit of a larger budget. We're not talking double, but still, I don't see the studios involved here wanting to green light a sequel with a larger budget knowing this movie underperformed.

The one thing that could save this franchise is something thats been saving the Transformers movies, overall sales.. this includes toys, games, etc. How well are these toy lines doing? How well is merchandising doing overall? This plays a huge factor for a franchise like this..

Lots of factors go into this movie getting a sequel, so only time will time. I'd love to see it happen, but I do have my doubts. Lots of good ideas for a sequel though.

China has been saving the Transformers movies. Unless you are arguing that making a billion per movie isn't a success. And based on how Transformers 5 is doing, expect a big shake up.

The issue with financing the sequel based off of toy sales, is based on how Lionsgates sells the movie, they and Saban are going to have to put much more of their own money on the line. And, well, Saban is cheap.

I just watched this after picking it up at Redbox earlier. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. It's not without its flaws, but it was probably better than anyone who is just holding on to nostalgia for the 90s show would like to admit (kinda like people want to talk about how bad the new TMNT movies are, while ignoring that Secret of the Ooze is damn near unwatchable now).

Does Lionsgate even get toy money?

You would think so. I mean, even Legendary was able to negotiate merchandise rights to the stuff they made from Toho. But I am unsure about Saban. He's cheap, and doesn't like to share profits.

Good points and even better ideas...I like the making a new Goldar idea...

Now I really want that 3 hour extended edition.

https://www.powerrangersnow.com/zacks-original-movie-backstory-revealed/

And for a movie that needed to deeply flesh out the backstory of five unique teens, each of whom was as starkly different on the outside as they were on the inside, it was to be expected that one character might receive the short end of the stick.

And for many Power Rangers fans, they felt that character was Zack Taylor, the Black Ranger portrayed by actor Ludi Lin.

In the film’s early trailers, Zack’s character was seen doing flips on trains, and swinging from light poles. But none of that footage made its way into the movie’s final cut, leaving many fans to feel like Zack had several layers to his character ultimately repealed.

Those suspicions would be true, as Director Dean Israelite revealed in an interview with Neo Saban Power Rangers that Zack’s original backstory was intended to be slightly different – but some of those details were a casualty of trimming the movie from 3 hours to 2.

In the movie, Zack harbors a fear of losing his sickly mom, and thus having no one left in his life. While that element was always incorporated into Zack’s backstory, the element that didn’t make the final cut would have explained his crazier, more daredevil persona that’s often reflected throughout the film.

“In his original backstory, [Zack] was trying to kind of become a YouTube star and get money that way to help his mom. And so he was doing all these crazy stunts and posting it online.” – Director Dean Israelite
The YouTube star angle was left behind, but would explain why Zack often defers to lines such as “We’re gonna’ be famous!” when the teens discover Zordon’s spaceship, or form their Megazord. It would also explain why fans see Zack doing karate moves on top of moving trains, and swinging from light poles, in the film’s early trailers.

Should Saban’s Power Rangers movie receive a sequel, perhaps Zack’s YouTube history will surface then. But if not, his daredevil persona which has come to define his character will surely live on.

I saw this in theaters with a buddy of mine and originally gave it a 6/10 score. On Friday I rented it because my daughter really wanted to see it. And after the re-watch, I gotta say the first hour and 30 min BEFORE they morph is really good. If they ended the movie on a cliff hanger right after they morph, I'd give the movie a 9/10. It's THAT good. But holy crap... that last 30 minutes after they morph is jaw-droppingly bad. Goldar is friggin joke. The Rangers don't even battle Rita. Zordon specifically says "don't let anyone know your true identities!" and they have their face masks off the entire fight! Then when it's time for the Zords to transform into Megazord, it doesn't show it. Then to top it all off, we're suppose to believe that Megazord hit Rita hard enough to send her to the moon. Get the f*** outta here.

That crap of an ending brought a 9/10 movie, down to a 5/10 movie for me.

But my daughter loved it! So there's that. But for someone who grew up watching MMPR, that ending makes me shake my head with disappointment.

I hope there's a sequel just for my daughters sake.

Saw the movie yesterday on Blu-ray. While the movie is decent. The lack of action really shows. The movie keep dragging on with the teen drama and through most of the movie all they do was train. 11 days of training and when they finally do morph. The fight scene quick before they move to a zord battle which is them trying to prevent goldar from getting the zeo crystal by having their zords stay in one place for like 10 minutes. I mean hold the line crap was lame. I also thought Billy death scene seems rushed. I'm a sucker for sappy sad scenes, but it seemed very forced to me.

P.S. I would watch a sequel, but I would rather Dean be replaced by a director that knows how to do action flicks.

I'll take any positive news I can get. Fingers crossed it continues to do good business.
