It its absolutely frustrating how this show doesn't get the recognition it rightfully deserves.

If I had my way, this would've gotten a Best Drama Series already and some acting nods (especially Acker and Emerson). Too bad this wasn't on AMC or HBO. Or even Netflix.

I am re-reading the machine's speech and I'm getting all sad again. :waa: :waa: :waa: #SorryNotSorry

While I'd rather just know that the next season is secured, there's a part of me hoping CBS drops it and it hops over to one of those. I think the channel it's on works against it, both with recognition and audience. I'm sure it'd have more of both with a simple channel move.

The thing that hurts this show but also helps it is that it tends to get a lot of viewers through DVR and online watching, something that live+Same Day Nielsen ratings are not that great at taking into account of. As a whole, just about every show on network TV is down to the point where I think the rating level where a show is considered safe is drifting downward. There are just so many options for TV these days, creating an overall audience base that is fractured and likely not to reach the levels we saw even 3-5 years ago.

CBS renewing it would be best. It might be treated better elsewhere, but I don't feel like dealing with the whole "(X network) cancels (series), will (Y network) give it a second chance?" song and dance. I went through it with Happy Endings, and it was terrible. It gives you false hope and robs you of the chance to grieve at the moment you read the word "cancelled".

I agree that if this show was on a cable network, it would have gotten some type of award because of the quality they continually pump out. It's just too bad it's not getting the ratings because it's on CBS and people think it's just a straight procedural when it's become so much more.

I think the main problem I have with the overall direction the past 2 seasons and likely why it has hemorrhagged viewers is that it has gotten noticeably darker and bleaker, with no actual light being seen at the end of the tunnel yet. I think Nolan and Plageman have gotten a bit too heavy-handed with beating down Team Machine with no real palpable reward or win in sight. It's made for good TV but it is getting a tad too meta for a lot of fans to take in anymore.

CBS should just do the right thing and hand the show over to Netflix, sure we will most likely be getting shorter seasons on Netflix (10/13 episodes) but the production value that goes into this show which is probably 3x the amount of any show on cbs, you would think its already a Netflix series.

And that's all that matters. :o

Keeping viewers is also a key, otherwise you get cancelled, which is the gun that POI is looking down the barrel of. I think they could have done some story changes that would have kept some of the bleakness but also given them a ray of hope entering the final season. As of now, you have to strain real hard to find that hope due to it being blocked by all the darkness they decided to go with.

Also, I think they've become way too focused on the AI war and its tech race while sort of shortchanging much of the human-to-human interaction that made people initially watch this show.

I have to say, after this season, it's become my favorite on TV behind GoT. Michael Emerson is a god and Amy Acker is goddess.

Yeah this is one of the very few show that I make sure I make time for when it airs (along with GOT), most of the other stuff I watch I watch later or build it up so I can have a marathon

TVBytheNumbers still has POI's chances of renewal at 100%.

I really hope it gets renewed. Still by far my favorite TV show.

Yep, I cried during that scene too. It seems to me that The Machine has now learned compassion.
I dearly hope we get a fifth season.
I think this is one of the most intelligent shows currently on TV...

I get the feeling that the reason why they taking so long to announce the shows renewal is because perhaps they are in negotiation for another network to take over it

I cant help but wonder if a ''brainwashed'' Shaw was originally meant to be the assassin that took out Elias and Dom.

I saw someone saying how the assassin dealing with...I think it was Shiftman had what looked like Shaw's coat.

Considering they didn't show the face of the person killing Control's female associate and it looked to be someone similar in size to Shaw, I think they were leaving it up to interpretation as to whether it was her or not.

I thought this show was safe? I read somewhere it was a lock to come back. What has changed?

I still expect it to come back, just wondering why its taking so long to announce its renewal which I why I'm wondering if they are in negotiations with another network.

PERSON OF INTEREST Post-Mortem: Greg Plageman on Season 5’s ‘Greatest Mystery,’ Rebuilding the Machine, Exploring Backstories, and More

Root really evolved, and this season we saw her taking steps for the team she probably wouldn’t have a year ago. Where does she go from here?
GP: I see her snapping lots of necks! [Laughs] What’s amazing about Amy Acker (Root) is you can have her do anything or say anything, and as preposterous as it sounds, she somehow makes it seem real, and the most important thing in that moment. There’s really nothing she can’t do. There will be some — all of the questions and arguments that were articulated this year between Harold Finch and Root about the Machine’s capability and level of trust we can actually place in a machine will be played out in the reconstitution of the Machine next year between Harold and Root. And it becomes the question of if Harold can trust Root and enlist her in this endeavor.

Plageman and Nolan still act pretty confident that the show is returning.

Yeah, but how many times have you seen a creative team come right out and say "Yeah, we're totally f***ed"?

I mean, I want them to be right about the show's return, but there's just no real way of knowing.

Considering POI is CBS' 3rd rated show in the 10 PM hour (behind Blue Bloods and NCIS: LA), they actually aren't in a bad position, except for the fact they lost about 2 million viewers over the course of the season. Their one saving grace is that they're also one of the most DVR'd shows, ranking typically in the top 10 in 18-49 demo and overall audience once the C+3 and L+7 are looked at. The networks are taking serious looks at those now as a greater portion of the viewing audience is no longer tied to a set schedule to watch shows.
