RoboCop Reboot - Part 1

See that costume is badass to me. It's fresh without abandoning the concept of the original. No clear visor, it's sleek, it's cool. I really hope the final design is like that because like I've said before I dont like the comments made by the cast and crew about the costume so far

We still yet to have any confirmation/final design set for robo. I still think it will turn out to be simular to original with some modifications. With how well ed 209 turned out I can't see robo going to far from norm.

I think while Padilha had a big say on the look of the new Robo design I also think MGM reigned him in a bit making sure it was still very much recognizable as Robocop while still giving it a sleeker edge.

That suit would be great but I'm not a big fan of the red lit-up visor. Especially if it does the K.I.T.T. scrolling

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I just saw it for the first time. Some fan art for an updated costume. I like how its new, but still represents the original design.

That's actually not bad.
It's pretty much what I imagined as an update for the original suit.

Wonder how Sony and MGM feel about the Robocop remake after Total Recall bombing.

i dont think they should be worried because the two remakes are seeming pretty different, at least from how Robocop is shaping up.

Im sure there hoping for a hit though

Blackman regardless of differences studios get worried. A lot of studios got super scared after Battleship bombed. In fact Paramount re-organized their entire release slate. GI JOE got pushed back like a year.

studios need to manage budget better no reason battleship or even total recall should of been like 200 million

I agree Project862006. Especially when you see all these micro-budget movies making huge grosses in comparison.

To me this summer was a big check on giant blockbusters. Only really a scant few really performed to expectations.

Where did he say that? Could you provide a link I'm curious to read that.

Robocop seems to have a stronger writing team and cast. Not sure about José Padilha, haven't seen anything he has done. I hope Jose is a strong director, unlike Wiseman. Len Wiseman has never impressed me. ”Live Free or Die Hard” was a fun movie to watch, but if you’re a Kevin Smith fan, like myself, you know Bruce Willis was calling the shots around set, not Wiseman.

One problem for me is, Robocop is a film that’s still fresh in our heads, will anyone care it revisit it again so soon?

I think once a trailer hits, the studios can start worrying or feel trilled.

Padilha is an awesome action director and Wiseman is not even close to being on the same level :yay: You should really check out Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2!

We have no idea what draft McWeeny got his hands on. It could be the first or one of the very early ones for all we know. The script has gone through a ton of changes so I'll at least wait until we get a trailer to see if it's really all that bad as Drew is saying.

I'm still excited because I'm sure Padilha got a chance to do a rewrite and he's far from being a bad writer.

Yeah, I'd like to check out his work before Robocop hits.

According to him , he's got the latest draft.
Damn shame if this turns out to be true.
Drew is the one critic who's reviews ( in 90% of times) i agree with.

It's just hard for me to believe that Padilha who wrote and directed the Tropa De Elite movies would create something so awful. I remember Drew being completely against this even before a director was attached as he thinks Robocop is perfect (which is a sentiment I share) however I'm open towards a different vision because I think the character is timeless and has the ability to have another movie detailing his beginnings.

Drew on the other hand came with a chip on his shoulder against this so this time around I'm not too sure I'll be taking his seemingly overreaction to heart. I agree with Drew often but I think his judgement is clouded with this one.

Robocop is more then just an action movie.
ANd remember this is going to be the first commercial movie PAdilha is going to make in Hollywood. Either he could put his stamp down or simply get sucked into the Hollywood mess where he basically has to answer to the studio exec.
THere are very few foreign directors who were capable of making a succesful transition from to hollywood. Commercial movies with relative big budgets put pretty big pressure on first time directors.
Here are just some directors who basically caved into hollywood pressure :

Oliver Hirschbiegel :
MAde Das Experiment and Der Untergang
Hollywood movie : The invasion

Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck :
Made : THe secret lives of others
HOllywood movie : THe TOurist

Asif Kapadia :
Made : THe Warrior and Senna
Hollywood movie : THe Return

The Tropa de Elite films are far, far more than just action. They're mainly political dramas.
