RoboCop Reboot - Part 1

Padilha should've prepared for this when entering this world.

Nobody can prepare you for this world. The only thing that can help someone is when they have the backing of a powerful person.
Look at Neil Blomkamp. He had the backing of Peter Jackson. Now with the success of Ditrcit 9 he has some power in sayin what he wants .

Another thing which can help a director is slowly working your way up. If you look at Duncan Jones , he wisely opted not to take on big projects. IT's also a case of knowing what your limitations are ( at that moment) but also knowing what kind of power your have as a director. Slowly working your way up means that you can quite some freedom when making certain movies.

Matrix, that's why Neil Blomkamp starting his career with Halo would've been a horrible movie for him.

I think in many ways, Padilha's first exposure to the US/Hollywood system through something like Robocop is a mistake.

this is why you need to start with good will with a specific studio look at snyder he made WB a crap ton of money with 300 it is why he got alot of free will and creativity with watchmen everything from script, budget, run time, rating, and actors instead of big names

you think his watchmen would of been done w/o 300 i think not

i think that if Aronofsky stuck around, there would be no studio interference whatsoever. best of luck to Padilha.

Totally.
170 million possibly R rated movie made by Universal and ( at the moment) "everything must be PG-13" Fox with a first time director. Who would've been slaughted. He had the backing of PJ so no matter what happened , his career wouldn't have suffered.

There are those rare exceptions when first times do succeed but let's face it , the majority would lose it.

WB does seem to give relative freedom to directors who made them quite alot of money. 300 was a risk but due to Snyder's smart use of shooting the movie against a blue screen meant that the budget was lowered significantly .
That is something that everyone is basically looking for when it comes to ( commercial) properties. Reduce costs and increase profits.

In some cases studios tend to take risks simply because they know that other movies can compensate potential losses. WB could afford that Watchmen underperformed because they still had Potter and Batman as their money makers.

.
D9? only because it was a low budget movie . what about the Halo movie that Neil was doing with Pete? thats where Neil got to see the real hollywood.

what makes me angry is producers talking like their dumb choices are good for the profit. yet we all knew that Total Recall would bomb. everyone did. so why

I'm wondering... did this start happening before or after McWeeny trashed the script?

you think the studio would change their 100million+ movie because a critic didnt like the script?

Depends on who said critic slept with.

Honestly when they throw an indie director on a tentpole they're doing it because they want to get the cheapest guy on board who has some kind of artsy vision, and then casually switch it up on him once production starts, because while he's good behind the camera, he isn't street smart enough for the Hollywood thing. You kind of have to be upfront beforehand regarding what your demands are, and they have to be demands.

Doesn't seem like it. Looks like he's taking the role of the CEO of Omnicorp. The one that Laurie bailed out on.

Yeah, I agree dude. But the thought of him in a 'Boddicker-type' villain role could've been absolute dynamite! :D

I'm happy for Keaton! Hope this helps him get back in the game.

Whoo!

There should be a Boddicker type villain as well, just so there's an army of henchmen for Murphy to shoot repeatedly in the face.

Great news!!

I wish he was playing some kind of Boddicker type as well though. He was pretty damn good as an ******* in Desperate Measures and Pacific Heights.

Awww yeeeeeeeahhhhh! I love Laurie but this is mother****ing Michael Keaton we're talking about here. I literally jumped up and down when I heard this news.

House would've been awesome, but you can't go wrong with Micheal Keaton either.

Do it. Do not attempt to cast anyone else but Keaton. Awesome personified.

I just watched 'Desperate Measures' last night.

This is great news. Been a fan since Beetlejuice.
