RoboCop Reboot - Part 2

The movie can still do well with its new release date. Might be a blessing getting out of the crowded summer.

Release dates change for many reasons, some good and some bad. In RoboCop's case I think it's because the studio doesn't like the footage it's seeing. Honestly these photos look bland and bad, it's looking like another Total Recall to me.

You know, as much as I hate that RoboCop has been bumped up, the idea that the studio executives are thinking the movie is terrible is rather silly as the film has been shooting for under a month. If the film was already in trouble, we probably would have known something by now like casting changes during filming or a new director being brought in.

No, I’m thinking the studio does want to make as much money as they can with RoboCop. Even though Total Recall with its $125 million budget, was a flop, it was a just a lousy film too. Now, I’m not saying RoboCop will be a lousy film, not at all. I actually think the film is in good hands.

I’m merely saying that with a budget of $100 million, the studio probably thinks the film has a better chance of making its money back with a new release date. Plus, in late July you have The Wolverine and R.I.P.D coming out and in early August, you’ll have 300: The Rise of an Empire, Red 2, 2 Guns and Smurfs 2, that’s a lot of competition for a remake of RoboCop.

With a February release date, RoboCop will have less rivalry and if it gets an R rating, even better. Simple as that.

Plus, you have to realize that this will basically give Jose Padilha over a year to work in post-production with the film as filming wraps January 7th in Toronto.

Not to mention G.I.JOE 2. Doesn't that come out next year, summer time?

A february release push is a studio loss of confidence move. It's either they don't like what they're seeing or feel that the audience isn't there for a summer release, probably a bit of both though.

I know some may not agree with this but i sort get a bit of satisfaction when these remakes flop. Frankly hollywood needs to get back to original ideas. The fact it's being replaced by elisyum the 2nd pic from the director of district 9 is sort of poetic in that regard.

If you'd actually do your research (solid director, pretty solid script from people on this board that have reviewed it) and stop taking everything at face value, you would know that is definitely not the case.

However, even if you're right, and it does turn out to be the case, it won't be because of the writer and director. It will be because of damn studio interference.

I was really looking forward to this. I guess it's okay, I still have the original 3 to watch and Alpha Commando and TAS, and Prime Directives and the tv series to watch until then

hasn't it been reported that jose padilha isn't having the best of times filming the movie because of the studio interference?

feels like mgm/sony isn't confident with this one.

He denied those reports.

Anywho, came across this on Tumblr.

Old toy, I think.

February is a dumping ground period generally. For it to get delayed to that much to February of all places to me sounds like a lack of confidence. Just like Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters got delayed to January.

the studio does need more time for post production. but they could move it to march or may before summer. but februar? thats not good news.

i think the studio is thinking about replacing 80% of the suit with CGI.

Sucks that it's been pushed back, I was hoping for a teaser trailer by Christmas. :csad:
Yeah, oh well. I'll keep the movie in mind but 2014 is a long road ahead, even for this flashy new Robocycle.

Movie starts shooting in September for a next summer release... I mean sorry, but that was a bit rushed. If anything, this film needed more time and I'm glad it gets it. Lets not forget that MGM is a BANKRUPT studio that needs its franchises to survive. Throwing a rushed film in the middle of the summer in those conditions is almost suicidal.

Well it looks like they've shot Murphy's death scene and a few scenes of the rubber suit. I wouldn't be surprised if they carry on with the Non Robo scenes whilst the suit is rapidly redesigned.

Lets face it - a large part of the negative online reaction to the remake has revolved about the bat/iron/Joe suit. (Yes, I know the McWeeny hammered the script, but only a few of us have read it and other reviews have been sort of optimistic.)

The studio have not countered ANY of the plethora of sterile spy-shots with a nice publicity still. I think some of the marketing suits have got cold feet from monitoring the online buzz and have stopped short of pulling the plug, but want to impliment damage reduction by having a redesign.

Yes this is only my two pennies worth - and what I hope the date move means, let's face it JP has been allegedly moaning about studio interference...

Then again I could be just ****ting in one hand and wishing in the other...

You gotta be naive to think that a major studio will get cold feet from geeks' whining. Especially re: something like the character's look. And God save us the day a studio makes such a decision.
Studios get cold feet from watching dailies and such. Personally, I hope they leave Padilha alone. The most excessive change is better than having a watered down and safe remake.

Yeah, hopefully they push the date to spring/summer.

Naive eh?

I seem to remember Bane's voice being change after negative reaction online. Remember it's not just a handful of movie site twerps moaning from their mom's basement.

The suit has been very badly received and numerous main stream press sites have pick up on this and reported comments.

The net is fast becoming a major focus group for the entertainment business and their ongoing projects. So whilst I never said anything else than I hope this could be the reason - I certainly hope that it might be a facet of it...

Thanks for your input though, it was valued

That was BIG MEDIA OUTLETS who were invited to a PRESS SCREENING of the prologue! ;)
Naive, yeah. And the day the net becomes a MAJOR focus group we're ****ed. Just reading lots of stuff on these boards, or the comments on the front page makes me cringe.

I'm pretty bummed I have to wait an additional 6 months to see Robocop but I hope it's for the right reasons and it works to the film's benefit. I love the suit, the bike, the cast, the director and the direction they appear to be going so I'm staying cautiously optimistic. I just hope to get some official images or a poster to hold me over until a teaser/trailer is available.

Who would admit that while still filming the movie? Who would admit that if they still want to keep working?

A move to Feb. has disaster written all over it.

Oh bless your cottons - it must suck to have skin so thin that you cringe at movie sites on the web! Dr Balls suggests that you try sticking your tongue firmly in your cheeks sometimes and unbunching your panties

;)

Just yanking your chain a little

Lets not spread doom and gloom otherwise we've got another green lantern on our hands
