I misread Robocable as Robodude.

Hey, I'll take THIS guy over Cain any day of the week:

Plus Robocable had 2 side-arms, 2!

No, he does not.

Jack Lewis doesn't die.

I'm glad this is the case, Robocop having a human partner was great in the original, and it was one of the best parts of the sequels as well, I was hoping he would have one in this as well.

I do recall a long time ago watching an episode of that show, it was horrible.

Even as a young kid who loved everything Robocop and everything sci-fi, I still hated that show, it was shocking.

I remember bits and pieces of the show and not being impressed by it at all.

The trailer looked okay, but I just find it really hard to get excited over a Robocop remake.

Something has been bugging me about the trailer.

In the trailer, it looks like the black armor has ZERO touch ups. However, people who saw the footage at SDCC said that not only did it have CG touchups, but it had alot of lights added to it. One person compared it to Tron.

Also, the promo art that leaked a few weeks back clearly showed a much more.... complete looking suit, with the areas where the bodysuit the actor wore having been filled in with solid armor pieces.

My point is..... I don't think we saw any finished shots of the armor in that footage.

Just curious i any of the people who are angry about the changes to Robocop were also angry about the changes made to Superman for Man of Steel. I heard a whole lot of "there's no such thing as a definitive take on a character" and "it's fine to change what the character is for modern times" etc for Man of Steel...while I argued that there are certain things that should be in the DNA of the concept. I have never seen a Robocop movie, so I don't have that connection that some have to it, so I can't be a good judge on what "must" be in a Robocop film.

At 1:05 in the trailer it looks like they did do a little CGI touch-up, his waist looks like it was shrunk as to not look like a man in a suit. Or Kinneman is extremely skinny

Blech, that suit. The original Robocop design, I think, is a masterpiece in terms of character design and costuming. Some may consider it outdated (I don't necessarily agree) but the sheer quality of the design is unquestionable.

I don't see that level of quality or craft reflected here. It just looks like black crap thrown on a person; it could be from a G.I. Joe film.

After seeing the level of artistry behind the design of the on-screen Iron Man armour, as well as films like District 9 and Elysium--and even Deus Ex: Human Revolution deserves mention here for it's excellent design of artificial limbs--I expect better than just a bunch of black rubber-looking plates.

Fairly, the silver, CGI design is huge step up from the black thing, and it remains to be seen how much they adjust in post--though the shots of the black suit from the trailer are not inspiring. I could be pretty happy with the silver version, I think.

I think the suit looks like Batman had sex with KITT from Knight Rider, which is a very specific kink segment in fandom.

The biggest issue is that the filmmakers completely missed the point of the original film. The original RoboCop was a satire on 80's consumerism, corporate greed, drug abuse, gang violence, privatization of law enforcement, military-industrial complex, and the arms race. It parodied the non-stop action movies of the 1980s by going over the top with cartoon level ultra-violence. Making a serious action film with a PG-13 rating shows a complete lack of understanding of the original concept.

Why can't this version also have satirical elements in a current modern context?

Yeah, I'm a little confused as to why a new movie should be commentary on 1980's society. It very much appears that this movie is commentary on 2013 law enforcement, military industrial complex etc.

It's not that it can't but does it? Judging from the first trailer there's not much hint of that.

Frankly what's helped Robocop age as well as it has is not the special fx or action but the social commentary and satire.

But Bruce, this trailer is dripping with social commentary...

I didn't detect any satire however. Every sci-fi movie released today has vague "social commentary" to it. The crappy Total Recall remake even had its share but the balance of that with satire is what made the first Robocop unique for an action movie, at least at the time.

This movie seems to be playing it very straight.

The script is loaded with current day satire. That was what impressed me the most, the entire story centers around it. So no even if this film fails on other levels ( I hope not) it is loaded with satire of modern times. Very cleverly too.

So you want some funny commentary? Maybe there isn't any. Not sure how you'd get that from the trailer though. Heck, maybe the goofy look is an inside joke about modern action/superhero films. We won't really know for sure until we see the film.

I hope this film doesn't end up being Total Recall (2012) 2.0.

The only thing I don't dig about the trailer is that Murphy with his helmet off looks like a dude wearing equipment instead of a face grafted on machine. There was a kind of coldness about that in the original film. With that said, I guess it fits the tone as it seems in this film, Murphy knows who he is right when he wakes up. Not that it's a bad thing.

Trailers are mostly misleading so cant say if this movie does have a reliable plot other than the origin of robocop .
At least This better be a good movie and not one of those Remakes who relay on heavy CGI and cheap story line .

Murphy car blast looked like a Intended setup for robocop project maybe OmniCorp has some hidden Agenda ?

Have to agree that this Robocop face is just too tidy. With the original there was a real sense of shock at the point Murphy took of the faceplate. We shared the horror and revulsion of what was done to him.

It honestly looked to me as if his head had been grafted onto a robotic body.

The new face just looks a little bit too, well done, like it is a man wearing a hood.*
Which is a shame as I thought the rest of the trailer was pretty good.

*Obvously I know that it really is a man wearing a hood! But hopefully you get what I mean... :)

It was part of the Prime Directives show(it used to be up on Netflix. It may still be up?). But it was a guy named John Cable who was partners with Murphy. Robocop killed Cable for some reason(I think he was hacked), and then Cable was resurrected just like Murphy in a Robo suit. He then wanted to destroy Robocop, but then decided to team up with him in the end.

It was pretty lame. :hehe:
i thought robocable meant robocop on cable tv. :woot:

robocop was first written as a movie. it started out as a movie. a lot of robocop fans dont even like the second movie. the first sequel. so there is no history with the robocop character. over 50% like only the first movie so he is the only true character.:woot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop

read the wiki and than watch the movie. it looks like an 80's movie. but so much focus is on practical effects that the movie still holds up.

The script has leaked a while ago... I've read it and unless they changed it a lot I will enjoy this film. (unless tons of bad acting)

It is just a waiting game for me on seeing it.
