the script got a lot praise since 2012. and based on trailers they didnt change it.

I don't think the black Robo is bad at all. That being said, I know the in story rationale that is bandied about in the film is that they did some kind of polling among criminals or what not, and they said they'd laugh at silver Robo's armor. Look at the shot Tanin posted. Tell me how quickly you'd stain your undies if THAT grabbed YOU by the collar and said "Come with me, or there will be... Trouble"?

the grey suit is a perfect modern robocop suit. if it looked bad i would get it. but they found it. the perfect modern design. and it looks like a robot. it looks like robot joints. it doesnt look like a guy in a suit.

In the original script, Murphy was supposed to have been drugged and shot strategically.

He's blown up in his car like Inspector Gadget now

look at this. look at the holes. look at the parts that were created so that metal parts move around a joint so that the robot can move. its a good design.

this looks like a superhero armor . it looks soft ,it looks like plastic and it looks thin

That's what they were going for...the Iron Man/Batman look. Even Keaton wants it in the film lol

Probably to make him look more superheroish.

I thought what happens is they show a shot of the classic robo suit, and they laugh that off. The actual original design.

I do have to say that I love the look of this design and am quite disappointed that they did not stick with this.

I hope it has good screen time before they scrap it in movie .

I have to agree with everyone, I wish they stuck with the original silver, that suit looks fantastic, I wonder though why they made his eye visor slit that thin.

Have to agree that this Robocop face is just too tidy. With the original there was a real sense of shock at the point Murphy took of the faceplate. We shared the horror and revulsion of what was done to him.

It honestly looked to me as if his head had been grafted onto a robotic body.

The new face just looks a little bit too, well done, like it is a man wearing a hood.*
Which is a shame as I thought the rest of the trailer was pretty good.

*Obvously I know that it really is a man wearing a hood! But hopefully you get what I mean...

Seriously. You'd think that if they are remaking an 80s movie in 2013, the whole reason they would be doing it would be to take advantage of all the FX we have now that they couldn't do in 1987.

I'd expect an even more robotic looking Robocop with some greenscreen on his body to fill with crazy robotic **** or even gaps you can see through. Maybe even a space behind his face when his helmet is off to show there isn't really a skull behind it. Crazy stuff like that.

Instead they go the other direction and make a robocop that would be even easier for 1987 to make than the original was.

People just seem to assume that this is the only stage we'll see of Robocop with his helmet/faceplate off...

I can live with both, if a sequel happens, they could always return him to the silver version.

I've held off posting on the trailer until now...

I've see-sawed on my opinion of this endeavour so far, so I'm sticking to the actual footage in the trailer. Here is what I liked!

1. The silver suits
2. The underhand programming that tricks Alex into believing that he is in control
3. The family aspect
4. The flip out Alex has when he sees what they have done to him
5. The reversal of the machine becoming a Man again spin of the original movie
6. The fact that they are trying something new with the story (car bomb)
7. Joel Kinneman looks good in the lead role
8. Robo voice is spot on!

I don't like

1.) Bloodless gunfights
2.) The black suit (he doesn't look like a cyborg in it, just a man in armour)
3.) The motorbike is lame
4.) Alex Murphy should not be a 'Tec, he is a uniform cop!

It looks better than the early version of the script. The cast looks amazing on film. I'm hoping that it may be a pleasant surprise!

Exactly, my optimism is high because of the fact that they at least respect the silver suit to give us some of it throughout the film, hey at least we're getting it in the first place.

My thoughts exactly. There is a rumor that Robo gets rebuilt at the end, and I think it goes back to the silver version.

BTW, all this talk over the silver and black versions, those are actually Ver. 1.0 and 3.0; there is a 2.0, that's more camo green/gray mix. Wonder when that will appear.

i think the black suit looks cool.
BUT i prefer the new silver suit more, it looks more intimidating and heroic.
the black suit actually looks sinister instead. probably because of the red eye.

The caused his 'death' they will probably cut away most of his body too. I don't think much has changed... they just not giving it all away in the first trailer.

If I had no idea, I'd say the bottom pic looks like it is from Pacific Rim.

What's the budget for this film? I'd say the silver design has more cgi elements to it and looks generally more complicated a design. It was probably cheaper to go with the black generic armor looking build.

Or they could've gone old school like they did with the original and use practical effects and a real suit, but I guess studios are too lazy for that these days.

Point being the suit doesn't need to be cgi at all, and they could've made the silver suit 100% practical and look real, the more I look at the black suit above the more I dislike it, but still it didn't look as bad in motion in the trailer to me.
