Seeing it tonight. Crossing fingers. Haven't heard anything positive from people I know so far. But then again I loved the hell out of the Total Recall remake so there's that

You did? Why?

I liked the visuals a lot. The dystopian environment was something I haven't seen before and the robots were fantastic. Colin did a solid job (reminded me of The Recruit) and Beckinsale is always fun to watch. But mostly I felt like it was more in tune with what a Philip K. Dick story on film should be. Like The Adjustment Bureau or Minority Report. If you get too dark you have Blade Runner, if you get too light you get Arnie's Total Recall. Not saying I dislike those movies at all, but they're not very rewatchable to me.

I'm insanely jealous of you right now, PLEASE come right back and tell us your thoughts, I'm so excited to see this! :woot:

We'll see. Reviews are embargoed until the 11th and survery says I'll have to sign a NDA

I typically don't care about RT but for this film I really hope it all around gets good scores and ratings.

The visuals were good. The movie was engaging for the first hour or so, but the last act totally ruined it for me. The villain plot, which apparently consisted of sending a bunch of foot soldiers to kill everyone in Australia, just seemed like too much of a stretch. And then of course you had the heroes climbing around on the outside of the subterranean subway thing, which was apparently very easy to do even though it was movie so fast that it could take them from one side of the PLANET to the other in about 15 minutes.

Anyway though, I do agree with your point about Blade Runner. It's a great, influential film but I don't find it very rewatchable either.

Whoa... reviews are embargoed until the 11th and the movie comes out on the 12th?

That's... not a good sign.

I have to be in a certain mood to watch Blade Runner, even if it is one of my all time favourites. The original Total Recall though? Hell I could watch that once a week forever and still enjoy it.

RoboCop wont be playing in Belgian theaters! Everywhere else in Europe the movie has an releasedate. Holland, France, Germany, UK,...

Something about distribution rights for Belgium. How come the movie can play over whole Europe, just not here in Belgium?!

i think the remake got its work cut out for it.
it will, in the eyes of most people, probably fall short of the original because the original is just too good.

so even if the remake is decent, it will still be crapped on because people will naturally compare it to the 87 RC. so i expect most reviews to say its just ok or they think it outright sucks.
it doesn't matter though, i still want to see this.

Problem with reviews for this is that most are that most are going to be bias. Some will try not to be but there's a huge bias againat this movie that will definitely askew the scores

this part of the review is what i'm happy to be reading about:

What elevates the movie from the usual action-drudgery is the quality of the acting: Oldman continues to impress with the best of his Commissioner Gordon skills from Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, while Keaton is deliciously evil, almost like an dastardly Bruce Wayne. Kinnaman, in the few moments that he’s out of the mask, does a sterling job.

Brazilian director Jose Padilha’s handheld action-camerawork keeps the action snappy, but there’s nothing to really get the adrenaline pumping. It’s really the execution of the rather intense plot, and how the movie allows for time to breath with moments of levity that makes it work — a scene in China is particularly hilarious yet appropriate for this time and age. All this adds to what is a surprisingly pleasing remake.

please give us ur opinion, as beast suggests, in emoticons.

btw, did you like a scanner darkly by linklater?

Embargoes aren't worldwide. You can't enforce it like that. Never happens. It's done by region. Only the US, Canada and the UK are really where embargoes matter since those are the countries with the most entertainment news outlets/readers.
