RoboCop Reboot - Part 5

Seems like they're begrudgingly positive reviews lol. If they did no comparison to the original they'd come off even better I think.

Yeah. I read through some of the early responses in my local forums. Their responses

Casual movie goers: This movie is BADASS!!!!

More serious movie fans: Not as good as the original, but a good movie (and some definitely say it begrudgingly, they need to add the obligatory "not as good as the original" before they praise the film)

Negative fans: "WTF the police should die when kill by the bad guys, wtf why is he black, wtf why SLJ only talked and did nothing, WTF no hand spike!? CLASSIC MOVIE SHOULD NOT BE REMADE AT ALL!!!!"

Most reviews are mostly about comparisons with the originals...and the review so far still favorable despite that, it's a good sight

Though one legitimate concern is about the rubbery look of the Black suit. I sorta agree. Need to watch the movie tomorrow to have my thoughts. :woot:

And spoiler about the end

And yes, he's in the silver suit again, with laser graved (I think) DPD badge too

You nailed all of it. Cool spoiler which I believe was hinted at by an interview I watched with Padilha :D Ironically, in the handful of reviews I've read so far I've only seen one complain about the suit, the rest were positive about it.

"I actually thought that it was definitely going to fulfill its prophecy and just suck really bad, but as much as I would love to say "nothing beats the original", I have admit that it isn't that far away from being comparable to the original."

Awesome to see so many decent to positive reviews coming through, makes me even more excited.

Padilha is a ridiculously good director. Anyone who has seen Tropa De Elite 1 & 2 can testify as much. Good to see Robocop getting some love.

Well Asia market's reviews/opinions may not matter much, as Robocop is not a pop culture icon to us. Let's hope it will gain favorable reviews in western market too.

I was wondering this as well, but it seems most of the reviewers in Asia reference the pop culture status of Robocop in the same terms we do in the west but I'm curious to see if there's a difference in reaction. Some of the reviews I've seen posted and posted myself were from blogs that seem to be American. Maybe they saw an early screening? I know there was one in L.A. Jan 23.

I think its a good sign if casual movie goers in the asian market are saying its badass. They are coming in with fresh eyes, no preconceived notions.

so do we know yet how long he'll be sporting the Black suit vs the Silver suit?

is the Black suit his "permanent" look?

SpideyZero confirmed that info up above

The reviews have me pumped but why is it being released over seas before it hits the U.S? Anyway, I like that the movie isn't a train wreck and is a good reboot, but I am sad that some of the original things aren't present. Like that fact that Alex doesn't actually die in this, as his heart, lungs, brain, and right hand are all left in tact and his family does not leave him making him less of a tragic hero. But its also a happier story for Alex and new fans. Also, the thug that blows up Alex isn't all that threatening. Also the pg13 rating is kinda meh but maybe that will change when I see it.I am just basing all this on the reviews I have read which are still positive. I know I will love this movie when I see it and I can't wait.... seeing it when a big group at this fancy movie theater/ bowling allly/ resurant called Cinebistro. :woot:

Found this on Instagram. Thought it was cool ha.

More negative comments come in. But most of them go like "Why Alex is not dead like the original? Why Lewis is now a black guy? Why no side arm swivel?"

So if you keep an open mind and do not compare with the original, I guess you will like the movie just fine

"It definitely surpassed my expectations. I enjoyed the original and was worried that this PG13 remake would dumb down the cult classic. It actually did the opposite."

"The answer is, IT IS A VERY GOOD REMAKE. I’ve said it. When the first trailer came out people gave mixed reviews, and most of us thinks that it will suck. But no, despite the PG-13 rating which I will talk later, this is one rare example of a really good remake. I’ll even go as far as saying that this is a better remake than Man of Steel‘s take on Superman."

Love seeing good reviews.

Hate that my most anticipated film of the year is coming out so soon I miss the big build up.

The Reddit reviewer I posted above answers a lot of questions about the film in the comments below.

"I think it will definitely please fans of the original. It has a lot more tension and emotion than the original, I would dare say I even enjoyed it more. I honestly came in expecting it to be a joke, so that's why I don't have a whole lot of criticism. I think critics and audiences will have the same sentiment and be surprised by how good it is"

and these are pretty lame complaints too.
lewis is now a dood, played by michael k williams, who's a good actor, so i have no worries there. the female perspective has been shifted over to mrs. murphy now.

I get the feeling that reactions to this may end up based on whether you think the original ROBOCOP is a great, classic film or more along the lines of a solid action movie with a great concept and a few moments of greatness.
