RoboCop Reboot - Part 5

seems like they're just playing the theme to pay a little homage and for the fans.
but they don't want to play it fully because they want to establish this robocop as its own identity at the same time.

I hope we get release info very soon in the next couple days. I wanna know what times this will be shown on the Tuesday before the opening day (because they do that) and if its a midnight release. Because if it is, I gotta tell work a head time, y'know

"Hardly a masterpiece" seems like a bizarre criticism lol.

Haha, I thought the same thing. Makes me think the reviewer either has an impossibly high bar to reach to even enjoy a film, or an incredibly low one.

haha i would say 99% of the movies that exist are hardly a masterpiece.

So your not gonna give us ANY impression? Haha.

Can't break embargo bud. I'll just say my reaction (be it positive or negative) has 90% to do with this movie as its own thing and not because it's a a remake.

Besides the title card, the old theme is only used once during Novak Element. It was pretty funny though, knowing it as the old Robocop theme used in a parody show :woot:

The music is ok I guess, I never really pay attention to movie music unless it really stand out and catch my attention, and usually it's just one piece of said music(Eg The Dark Knight theme, Pacific Rim main theme and Pirates of Caribbean main theme). In this movie's case, the standout music for me is Hocus Pocus....

Hocus Focus' still in the training sequence, so probably a lot of you guys are not gonna be happy. I personally like the song and thought it really work well with the action sequences for some reasons :woot:

The ending credits was nothing special, just credits. The song used is this, seems to be a classic rock and roll

Well that just straight up sucks. Thanks for letting us know. I was afraid the old theme would be used during the Novak element. Ugh.

Now, that's more like it, Mr. Wayne.

^ That looks great.

I have done a very quick review search, and it seems this will be a worthy remake. I have next to no nostalgia or connection to the original movies, (first is the best one though obviously), so I'm hoping to enjoy this quite a bit.

What I like about the article is that Padilha says this is the film he wanted to do. That there was no interference from executives or similar.

Anyway, just a small piece I really liked that I decided to traslate.. I'm sorry for any mistakes:

"In the years fallowing to his "yes" to Sony-MGM (the same company that produces the Bond films), Padilha would collide many times with the producers and executives - the "money people". "The tension was very big indeed, and it was there all the time. On one side, they want, with reason, to protect their very high investment. On the other, I want to garantee, also with reason, that the film I envisioned would be the one people would watch." Altercation, phones hanged up, breaks and resumption, change of concessions, pacific resistance and even a little of duplicity (telling you would do it one way but when it comes to the crunch, do it in another, for example) : Padilha used all kind of tatics, but above all kept the attitude that ever since that first meeting yielded him the best results. First, the attitude of independence. "I'm in a privileged position: I have a very active career in Brazil, and never wanted to do a film in the United States just to say I did it. If they didn't want it my way, I wouldn't have done it and that would be it. But if I needed this project to move my career forward... Then I'd probably have thought twice before standing up to the guys the way I did".

With the contract signed, prevailed, along with that attitude of indepenced, the attitude of "I know what I'm doing", which is irresistible in the people that, in fact, really know what they're doing. Padilha provided the proves of his competence voluntarily as soon as he had something to show: each scene that he filmed, Rezende soon edited it and showed to the studio to calm their nerves. "Also so the people can get used to the film. If not, it would be a chock to them and it wouldn't have worked". The idea was really to take chances. "The american actions films are increasingly alike and generic. Televion, however, is doing great with complex and dense series like The Wire or Breaking Bad, and it found audience for them. I'm against underestimating the public inteligence, and I won't be the one to do it"."

We don't actually know that. This could just be a case of generic positive PR comment. Plus, I have a hard time buying that comment when we've had him say this before:

“I talked to José Padilha for a week by phone. He will begin filming Robocop. He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight… ‘This is hell here,’ he told me. ‘The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.’ He is bitter, but it’s a fighter.”

He does say how difficult it was in the interview.

Yea could be, but that is all heresay. Padhilla has mentioned it was hard, and sometimes pre production can be more stressfull, especially for indie directors on Hollywood films, so maybe he was angry about something else, or just ideas for something specific. He often mentioned he made the film that he wanted to make, so if that's indeed a lie, we probably won't hear the truth about it for many years.

Either way, good experience or bad, I'm confident we won't be seeing Padhilla back for Robocop 2.

Yeah but at the same time that was all rumor and not confirmed by anyone. So why is that you believe the negative rumors and not the more positive

Anyone know when the embargo is done and the reviews will start going up?

There's already 20 some reviews if you really do care about that kinda thing. The US embargo is until late feb 10th-feb 11th.

I'm seeing it on Friday and will be reviewing it fully on my FB page - screw any embargo rubbish

Im pissed there not releasing this at my cinema even though the rest with the same brand around the country are. Pricks.

Unless you're a member of the press who agreed to an embargoed screening you're not obligated to do anything. Many people in the US have seen it in GA screenings. Plenty of reactions around FB and Twitter for those who look.

Yeah I've seen quite a few on Twitter.
