Not to backpedal or sound like I think you're right, but I did see a photo of Reeve on HERE of all places with no shirt during filming of the first film and he was soft. The suit just smoothed out the lines a little. It gives almost the same effect when a pudgy football player wears Under Armour. If someone can remember where that picture is, please post it. Otherwise, I'll have to dig myself (which considering my lack of computer skill, will take a while).antmanx68 said:REally? Care to post some photos illustrating all these "bad" pounds that Reeve was carrying around? Because not only did he have some good size, but his chisled face and well defined neck area definitely gives the appearance of "cut", certainly moreso than Routh and his cherubic face.
I havent seen any pictures of Reeve where he has been anything but what many fans describe as Superman: Large size, muscular, not overly ripped.

thanks. that's my feeling exactly. he is the new superman and i want to embrace him right away like i did when he was first announced as superman. but i just can't after seeing all those pics... just not yet...Thot said:In all fairness....Routh deserves the chance to prove himself as Supes in the upcoming film. He may very well pull it off. I am willing to give him that chance, I'll be in line for the movie next summer. BUT,...and it's (as Pee Wee said) a Big "BUT", the photos released so far are quite underwhelming and of great concern. The suit really bites and Routh's physique is questionable. The combination is not encouraging so far. I WANT to like this movie and have been anticipating a new Superman film for many moons, but I'm disappointed by what I've seen so far.
well, 'it' isn't very much about the acting ability. simply put, the "it" is the hero charm. you can sense 'it' in some people, even though they are normal men or some bad guys.the "it" their speaking of SHOULD be the actors ability to portray the character, not their look.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So is "it".sf2 said:bring your built or not discussion to the other appropriate thread. here is the "it" factor discussion.

you can see "it" crystal clear.

but you can hardly see "it" here.

sf2 said:"it" basically is the 'hero/leader/in authority/power charm.
for an example, Clive Owen has 'it' and he doesn't look like reeve a bit.
sorry, your theory doesn't apply to me. i was one of his supporters. and i don't anti - him. however, most of his superman pics that we saw dont look good to me. he doesn't show the 'superman quality' in those. that's all.Venom71 said:I'm going to take a wild guess and say that whoever you wanted to play Superman in SR is who you are going to think has "it" ...if you don't think Routh has it now and you don't want him in the movie you most likely won't see "it" in him even during the movie..from the pics I hace seen of him I think Routh has "it".![]()
Pickle-El said:Yes, C.Reeve......that's the 'it' you ARE referring to correct? (because according to 'real' Superman fans, no one else has/will come close)
Should that be the case, allow me to let you in on a little secret....Hindsight is always 20/20.

Look here. Not to blaspheme against Reeve as he is my messiah, but Physically Routh has a better body and more vascularity than Reeve did. Notice that Reeve has no pectoral separation and his deltoids have zero definition. He looked damn good in costume, but he couldn't even finish in the top five of a regional bodybuilding show in Idaho. Just guessing his body fat is at least around 15% which is hardly close to the eight or less Routh is likely carrying. This is not me in anyway saying Routh is the superior Superman, because we've seen nothing to the contrary, but he is superior physically. If I would've been in charge of Reeve's program, he wouldn't have been allowed to eat "anything he wants" like he was quoted in the making of documentary that was released around the time the first film debuted. During that doc they showed Reeve's early training BEFORE the bad diet set in and he was shredded (even though he only weighed about 200 pounds at the time. With the current training technologies and dietary practices Reeve would've given even that roid-pumper O'Hearn a solid run for his money. Reeve was barrel-chested, and that's why Alex Ross paints him that way.![]()
