As a follower of BO, I have to admit I did not see 200m OW coming. This film is now poised to beat TDK and could beats its adjusted total also.

This is nothing short of amazing. And lol at the people who think comic films are dying.

TDKR will be hard pressed to beat 200 OW with no 3D. it's the matter of TDKR being 2D only, it's a matter of not enough theatres to beat it because ASM will still be playing in the 3D theatres.

Not sure if serious....

Course not :oldrazz:

I don't know, HP and The Hunger Games both had great WoM and even they got hit in their second weekends. I am genuinely curious about how front loaded this going to be.

Well in a question of which movie will have more repeat watchers among the 3, Avengers might take the prize. Although quite rewatchable HP fanbase consist of mostly of young people. Hunger Games don't have the same rewatchable factor.

Insane numbers.

Also, my 2D tickets are $13 here in NYC. Been that way for years.

Its still an estimate and 0.3 isn't much room for error. Hold off the celebratory drinks just yet. It could go up, it could go down /party pooper

Wow! These figures are absolutely insane. More than the total domestic run of Thor in a single weekend.

After watching the film twice, I feel kind of sad for anyone that had to watch it in 3D. From what I know about light levels, it must be hard to watch some of the scenes, including the opening.

that's what avengers has going for it that TDKR doesn't.
when TDKR is making $10 per ticket, ASM/avengers will be making $13 per ticket. it adds up.

As far as I know it, no one has seen TDKR so far, let alone review it. Or are we preemptively declaring TDKR a critical success? :wow:

I would hate to be the guy or gal who was wrong about it making just over 200 million. 199.9 just isn't as epic. :oldrazz:

Holy crap, this is incredible. 200 + million?
Perfection.

Those figures are ****ing crazy, dude. I feel all excited and proud for some reason-- I guess since I was into it from the beginning when IM1 was on its way to release and even though their movies are popular I've felt like Marvel Studios was in this weird underdog position because of the limited character rights. Like all these people had doubted they'd be able to turn the characters into household names with Avengers or that it would reach great heights because of the lack of Spider-Man or Wolverine and here we are.

But most of all, it's exciting because it means we can potentially get more fun blockbusters that actually put a value on characters. But execs probably won't see it that way...

I'm saying ASM and avengers will make more on tickets because more people will see it in 3D than 2D. TDKR doesn't have that option.

My 3D experience was actually great. My cinema must have had it brighter or something. The flying scenes in the final battle were actually really good. And loved how the interior shots of Stark with the armour on made the HUD displays have more depth. Really effective imo.

Your theater changes their bulbs? Lucky.

I had to get my money back for a 2D showing of Ghost Protocol it was so dark.

This is going to hit $1 Billion before the week is over

Don't feel sad, I've seen it in 3D three times and 2D one time here and I can gladly report that it's the best 3D experience I've ever had with a 3D movie. I can't recommend watching it on a 3D screen enough, and that's coming from someone that usually hates 3D movies. It worked beautifully here, I doubt that in USA theaters it would be any different. :yay:

I think that's the case in most theaters, I never thought I'd be recommending people to go with 3D, and here I am doing it.

:doh:I really don't think that The Dark Knight Rises will do as well as the fanboys hope. Heath Ledger even without the death hype was a much bigger star than Tom Hardy, playing a much more iconic character. Bane just doesn't have as much mainstream penetration or appeal.

Besides, have you seen that Catwoman costume?

Why are we talking about TDKR? Potter, Avatar, Transformers, and the rest of these movies are all 3D.Ticket prices for Avengers are oftset by TDKR being a summer movie anyway. TDKR can make money during the weekday mornings, Avengers cant because everyone is in school. It all balances out.

That is good to hear. Especially after what happened with Thor. I am not a 3D guy and I think it is nice when there is an option.

As incredible as this is, I wonder if this will be very frontloaded. I mean I expect WOM to be great so there will be repeat viewings but I'm curious about next week.

I wonder if Disney & MARVEL will try to push this even more & get it over $2 Billion before it leaves theaters ? $1 Billion is a lock at this point

I am not sure "stars" play into it at this point. TDKR is a franchise like Transformers... just good. Like the Avengers has just become. :yay:

Not sure about the weekday mornings not making money for The Avengers. Yeah kids are in school still, but that doesn't mean no one goes to the theater.

Dark Shadows is the question. Terribly advertising, but it has Depp. Don't have any idea what is going to happen.

That is just an insane amount of money. Well deserved.

The upcoming MCU solo films have a lot to live up to.
