Haha, I'm sure they would have liked the extra money, but they have gotten enough from Nolan and his bat-franchise. *Hence why they gave him his way without 3D. Plus, I'm not really sure why people keep comparing Batman with this Avengers movie. They are completely different. I don't expect the general audience to like Batman as much as the Avengers. It isn't as corny or full of CGI.

By the way, its a public holiday in the UK this weekend and its pretty cold so looks like a good day for the cinema. Its going to be Avengers and Pirates! Adventures with Scientists that are going to get the boost from that.

Saw that last week. So good. I thought it was released awhile back in the Uk though? It is still in theaters?

The funniest thing about this weekend at the box office is this:

Definitely it has a shot. I think at this point it would almost be a bit disappointing if it didn't reach 500 million domestic... It has the mega opening (obv) and it has good reviews/word of mouth.

I also maintain the May slate of movies is weak. Dark Shadows looks terrible and will attract the niche Depp/Burton audience. Battleship looks like a Transformers wanna be. MIB 3? Who exactly has been clamoring for this threequel? Anybody?

I think Avengers will run wild.

500 mil? Whew, that's a tall order. I'm not sure its' gonna break 500 million domestically. I want it to but then again I said it would make between 140-160 mil opening weekend. I was proved wrong and i hope I'm proved wrong about the 500 mil.

I 100 percent disagree! Dark Shadows does not look terrible. I want to see that and the times I've gone to the movies and the trailer was showed the audience gave a good reaction. It's gonna do well. I will warn again do not underestimate MIB3. I highly doubt it will do as well as Avengers so far and while it's dated its gonna make money. It has Will Smith and the past ones were family favorites. I doubt MIB3 is gonna tank. I see it making over 200 million domestically for it's run. I do wish Smith would take on something different though. MIB just seems so dated again.

Well, I did see many posters on IMDb claiming that the reason that Avengers made such big numbers is because of the Dark Knight Rises trailer being attached to the film (even though I have yet to see it in my two viewings)

I'm glad to see The Avengers doing so well at the BO. It isn't really a surprise since it was being built up since Ironman, but well done.

It was and it is. It was number 4 in last week's box office chart so its on the wane but kids movies hang around for ages.

People saying it'll be frontloaded and do a massive drop second weekend ala' HP8 simply aren't paying attention to the internal multiplier. HP8 had an internal OW multiplier of something like 1.8-1.9X. That means it did well more than half it's entire OW business just on it's first day. TA has a 2.5X. That's better than TDK's(2.35X).

Also, if you factor out the 52% that saw this in 3-D and the extra $ it got from that then TA would have an OW between $175-180M still and easily take the record. That's still better than TDK's even adjusted for inflation($172M). It's also better than SM1 adjusted for inflation($153-154M). That means w/o question it put more butts in the seats than either of those.

$500M is w/o question the basement when it comes to total domestic gross. And it's highly unlikely to do just that given WOM and reviews it has. It's going to do anywhere between $500M and $750M DOM. Count on it.

I'm more of a fan of the Avenger's themselves than Whedon, as a matter of fact I'm not really a Whedon fan at all.
