A friend of mine who I have heard say, verbatim, "I don't like those action-y explosion movies you like", texted me after she got out of the avengers about how blown away she was and was saying how excited she was to see it again t: This movie is truly breaking all barriers and getting a huge audience, which excites me to no end.

Couple days ago I went to two different red boxes to get the captain america blu-ray (mine got a scratch on it, unfortunately), and both of them were out of Iron Man 1 and 2, and Thor and Cap.
Disappointed but excited me at the same time haha.

Avatars "legs" were just astounding. Its like 36th for 5-day gross, but it went on to set the ww record. I enjoyed the movie, but had no interest in seeing it again at the theater. Couldnt get through it again on cable. Who was watching it 4 or 5 or 10 times at the theater? Who are these people? Lol.

Cameron may be a derivative writer, but the dude knows how to bring in an audience. Props.

Cameron just got the midas touch when it comes to movie. I'd never have guessed that Titanic would have broken all time domestic BO record either (before Avatar took the record from it).

The romance thing is definitely key here. And by that I mean females. Hell, even all his other movies had female protagonists/costars. Aliens, Terminator, Abyss. To balance out all the testoterone. But a romantic subplot and a hunky guy is even better!! Chicks are powerless against it!! And their boyfriends/husbands are powerless against THEM.

Cameron is a genius but he is also an arrogant jackass. He refuses to throw his fans a bone by making a sequel to True Lies or Terminator. Cameron certainly has the clout to do it but would rather make Avatar movies every decade. Why? So he can shove more enviromentalist propaganda down our throats. I wish he could be like Scorsese and branch out.

Maybe the GA is just used to run of the mill action-y explosion movies (can't blame them) and this has something more. Comic movies can take their share of the blame for this. Speaking of run of the mill, Battleship is out soon!

Cameron has legs completely covered. The 2nd to 7th weekend records belong to Avatar, the 8th to 12th (and probably everything after that) belong to Titanic.
