Those aren't the only two scenarios. Brad Bird I feel's being on put on too high a pedestal.

Which websites reported this ?This weekend Avengers almost got the #2 spot, leaving MIB on #3. Almost 9 million. Pretty good.
It's not going to hit #2 worldwide or domestic, or #3 Foreign, but it does have a chance of breaking $1.5 B WW, which is unreal.

Marketing for MIB3 was non-existent.
IF Whedon is on-board, perhaps. If not, we´ll see.
Wheddon will be on board. I'm almost certain of this.
He'd be crazy not to...and i'm not even talking about the monetary motive here.
Raimi also said that he'd only direct one spidey movie....

I'd love to see Brad Bird tackle a Marvel property.
Preferrably Doctor Strange because I just want a good director attached.
I think Brad Bird deserves a bigger franchise.
There are plenty of gifted directors who could do a great Dr. Strange movie.
Exactly. The first time I saw the battleship trailer, I giggled.
I agree. If Disney has an opportunity, they should re-release The Avengers back to the theatre, especially if it's IMAX 3-D so moviegoers can really enjoy it on the biggest screen. Cameron did it with his movies like Titanic, and I don't see why Disney shouldn't do the same. I think Avatar's records may be too hard to break, but Titanic is not, and I think TA has a shot at the #2 domestic take. However, I won't be surprised if Cameron decides to re-re-release Titanic just to put some distance between it and TA, though.
That's also a stat that shows how terrible the other movies in May were as much as how good Avengers wasI just read this...
As for THE AVENGERS, the Marvel gang is somehow still finding records to smash. Even before this weekend's $20.2M take, the movie ended up accounting for more than half of May's domestic box office business all by itself (previous single-month record-holder was SPIDER-MAN with 37%).
More "wow" stats!
Problem is, Marvel doesn't have that many big properties left. Maybe Bird can take over Cap's sequels, or tackle BP.
"big properties"?
What do y mean by that?
Big name recognition characters.
There are already franchises for all the main characters.
