"Battleship and Dark Shadows are going to halt The Avengers in its tracks"

"Potter's opening weekend record is safe from The Avengers"

"The Avengers is going to gross just slightly more than Iron Man overall"

"The Avengers will fall short of The Dark Knight's total"

"600 million domestic? 1.5 billion worldwide?! Yeah, RIGHT"

Ah, good times. :yay:

For some reason, the one i remember the most was from a well known poster who said that there's NO WAY that the Avengers is going to break ANY kind of record. It's just a fanboys wetdreams ( he/she REALLY likes to throw around the term 'fanboys')

I think in the end, he/she liked the movie afterall. But having spent time trashing the movie and it's fans before, he/she now joins 'the other side'....which was pretty ironic, because before all this, this person really, REALLY disliked the fans from the 'other side'

:oldrazz:

I think there are a lot of posters that fit that same story.

The MCU films (IM, IM2, TIH, Thor, CA, and TA) just passed Pirates of the Caribbean for number 4 for the biggest franchises in film history. Harry Potter is number 1, James Bond is 2, and Star Wars is 3.

Can you post those quotes with the names who said them? :D

Nah, I'm just doing approximation of the general slights from the various debbie downers that have since disappeared. Now that they've realized the futility of trying to knock down this monster, they're banking their hopes on a certain other hero and praying for salvation against the big bad popcorn movie, like they did 4 years ago. :whatever:

Nothing wrong with thinking those things. Just annoying when the so called experts shout everyone else down with their authoritative opinions/facts and completely ruin the enthusiasm & fun in the thread. Lot more easygoing around here now! 600m will do that for you lol.

Mmmm, tasty. And they're just getting started.

And Harry Potter is finished & I can't see a proper new Star Wars while Lucas is around. :csad: James Bond will probably continue forever making somewhere in the 100/200ms every few years. At the rate Marvel are churning films out they will probably top that list some time in the future.

Agreed. The MCU future is very bright. Here's where we're at:

1. Harry Potter, 8 films totalling $7,706,147,978
2. James Bond, 24 films totalling $5,131,470,822
3. Star Wars, 7 films totalling l$4,382,359,868
4. MCU, 6 films totalling $3,727,735,967

Here's one to watch in rear view window with the hobbit movies coming out:
7. The Lord of the Rings, 4 films (guess they count the animated hobbit in here, $2,947,978,376

Also:
11. Spider-Man, 3 films totalling $2,496,346,518
17. X-Men, 5 films totalling $1,890,097,619

Shame we can't include Spidey & X-Men with MCU lol.

I didnt know there was a list that kept track of the various franchises .
Impressive .

Of the three Franchises that are above The MCU,
Only one is still active, The Bond Franchise .
That ought to help The MCU to catch up with the others .
And considering how Bond has slowed its output .
MCU will catch with that one too .
Although Bond will undoubtedly be helped by the release of Skyfall.
Looking forward to that one .

I think the X- Men wont be moving up until the release of The Wolverine and The First Class sequel.
Spider _Man will be going up,
But, it will probably be number 1 for just about two weeks .
Because of The Hobbit ,
THe LOTR franchise will be rising up that list most definitely .
No telling how high it could go.

Yeah...though when i said 'the other side'...i meant the DC side. Which i still think is stupid, because whenever a CB movie become a big success like this, we ALL benefits.

And it's only with CB fans...i mean, There's still no signs of angry Potter's fans trying to bash the movie in The Avengers boards as of today.

I guess next year the MCU will pass Star Wars for number 3. Both IM3 and Thor 2 will be $500+ million movies. But with the success of The Avengers, could IM3 and Thor2 become $1 billion+ movies?

Maybe not 1 billion...but definitely more succesfull than the previous movies.

My guess Thor would be leading the pack...follows by IM 3 and Cap will finish last.

I wonder what difference having Disney distrubute the films rather than Paramount will have on the box office returns?

Of course if you count the whole of Marvel films as a brand in and of itself then it's already #1.

I'm a big lurker on this board and a pretty infrequent poster, so I've been around for a year or two now and it's been great seeing the haters and doubters eat crow. Even I originally downplayed the success of the movie, thinking it would only gross $800m and I was gladly wrong.
Now that this has become the biggest superhero film of all time it's funny seeing the detractors from here and other websites resort to flimsy criticisms, such as "the Avengers won't stand the test of time and is just easily forgotten, disposable entertainment" or "it's just a better version of a Michael Bay movie". :lmao: Yeah right. Money talks, haters. $1,437,287,534 and counting.

Money talks alright. But the meaning of that is different. Was Transformers 2 a great movie because it made big money?

Notice that he was taking about the movie financial success...that's why he made that statement. He wasn't really arguing about the movie success with critics or anything like that.

Probably why he's on the box office thread...

But thanks for making an appearance, mr buzzkill
