Sweet image.

This is from Vigilant's website. I know we've been discussing the lenses for a while, but I really think this is the PERFECT material for the Batsuit.

Just chiming in with the newest manip of vigilant's stuff. I normally tweak a lot more, but left this one more or less alone.

I gotta say that Keaton is the only Bat actor who I feel was really able to do something with his eyes. I love Christian Bale, really I do, but I never saw any emotion in his eyes. Ditto kilmer, clooney, etc.

I was thinking the same exact thing.

Offhand, I can't even remember any remarkable aspect of Kilmer's performance. He's like Dean Cain as Superman: OK, not good/great.

But yeah, Keaton is the only guy who justified having non white eyes in the Bat outfit.

Crying and the thousand-yard stare, being exceptions?

No. Crying is only shown by tears, not the eyes themselves, The eyes in the so-called "1000 yard stare" are no different than when one looks intently at anything.

Maybe I'm stupid(it's quite possible) but I feel like the Iron Man suit is considered one of the best onscreen depictions of a superhero's costume. Could you imagine if they tried to make RDJ's eyes visible through the helmet? It would look silly. Why on Earth shouldn't filmmakers take the same approach to Batman and his cowl?

Yes because the Iron Man and Batman suits are exactly alike. :whatever:

I get where your coming from, but when RDJ is playing iron man they do those inside the helmet shots so you can still get emotion

Yeah, I'm not the best manipper. I'm practically taunting BattleAngel to blow us away :oldrazz:

My chops aren't so hot today for some reason. That said, here are a new batch of pics! (by the way, your images frickin ROCK, don't sell yourself short. You especially do the eyes just about as well as anyone)

First up, what I'm calling SuperKaliVigilisticExpialadoFleck...

With white lenses (for some reason, sucking at this today more than usual) and a blackened cowl...
returnsfleck3.jpg

With 'natural' eyes (these aren't Fleck's eyes)
15x8hs8.jpg

A couple of VigiFlecks that kinda got lost in the shuffle- if you blink, you might miss that these have Fleck's face and a few tweaks not there in the original...

In that last one, I made sure that the cape and cowl looked like they were one piece, or at least that the cowl wasn't a big rubber thing that had a cape coming out of it. I do think that is one aspect of the suit that Nolan knew well enough to do away with, and I'm very thankful for it.

I also think the Arkham suit looks great with the gauntlets and muscle bulk trimmed up a bit, gray darkened, belt made to be a tan rather than bright color, the white eyes, and shortened ears...

Why does everyone have this obsession with Batman showing emotion? He isn't emo, he's intimidating. The entire point of his costume is to become something more than human because criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot. The only time we need any emotion is maybe back at the cave when he's reflecting either alone or with Alfred. When his work clothes are on, we don't need to see fear, excitement or anything. We need to see Batman.

And yet, the white lenses look the best :word:

BA, love what you did with Arkham statue manip is right on the money IMO! Thats a great shade of grey I think- enough to break up the suit, but not too light. I think the gaunlet change was perfect as well.

I really love the "Vigifleck" manip thats lit from above...i know we've all mentioned it time after time, but i really hope Snyder uses lighting/shadows to Batman's advantage in this film to portray the character in a dramatic way.

I like it. Thought I don't think is possible to adapt this 100% to big screen and with that type of difinition in the muscles. Or is there a material that can be used? Also this deseing allow the cowl to be one piece with the cape. Can someone do a manip with those spec? like in this pic.

That's not bad. It's pretty apparent that the suit is going to have to have some kind of texture to it.

Now, if someone could take the old Miller designed Bat shape form TDKR and throw it on the chest? We would be getting somewhere. I like this one, and the textures...

Forgive me if this has been posted, but I once lurked through 15 pages of "trunks" "no trunks" and I'm not repeating the experience over the eyes.

My take is that Arkham Origins cut-scenes handled the eyes right. There are no lenses but often times Batmans eyes glow white simply for cinematic effect. Skip ahead a bit here to when Gordon first meets Bats face to face.

They do it several times throughout the game. It's a comic book movie. It can get away with embellishments like this without IRL explanation. And it helps to portray how frightening Batman is to the uninitiated.

WOW!!! These are simply amazing.

Exactly.

I think the whole "we need to see the eyes" thing has become propaganda at this point. No disrespect to those who genuinely feel that way, but there is a good portion of people who I'm betting are just parroting it at this point.

As you said, he is supposed to be an intimidating and soulless creature of the night. I don't need to see the whites of his eyes and the twinkle of light bounce off of his pupils. It's not really needed.

Also, what is his mouth/face for? His scowl and grimace can say a lot. Whether it be a frown, smug smirk, or wincing in pain. Dredd executed this perfectly. This isn't Spider-Man where the entirety of the actor's head and face is covered, so you have to come up with contrived situations for his mask to be damaged.

There are plenty of other ways to "show emotion".

It's not actually the eyes themselves that show emotion, it's the eyebrows.

Yeah sorry to quote from so far back

But the eyes themselves do still show a lot of emotion. Ledger's Joker, for instance seemed to have his eyes darting around a lot and narrowing which added a lot of nuance to the physical performance and really helped to bring the manic psychopath to life that little bit more.

Batman certainly puts on a front of being an emotionless tactician for the most part, but the emotional turmoil within bursts out quite often. Mosts comics depict him snarling into a villain's face at some point.
