How hi-tech should a grapple gun look?

It's a gun that shoots out something that grabs onto something else.

I still like B89's grapple more. It's not bad, but it just looks a little too big. I actually think its my least favorite live-action version. Even Nolan's looked better.

I don't hate it though, just not my favorite.

*pushing up oversized glasses* Well here is what I've found after doing some quick research...

grapnel is (nautical) a small anchor, having more than two flukes, used for anchoring a small vessel while grapple is (nautical) a device consisting of iron claws, attached to the end of a rope, used for grasping and holding an enemy ship prior to boarding; a grapnel or grappling iron.

I'd say, if the gun just shot the grapnel, then it would be called a grapnel gun. However, since there is a rope (cable in Batman's case) attached, I'd call it a grappling gun.

As far as I'm aware in Batman comics, video games, and film this instrument has been called a grapnel gun. I wasn't really intending to start a debate on the subject though, let's not turn this into a whole "are the gauntlets bronze" thing.

I was just pokin' at ya a bit. I don't care what it's called really. I just can't wait to see him put it into action! I hope they do some epic shot with it. I mean they've used it in other films, but never really used it all that well.

You know what I find crazy? Texas gun shows down here also always have knives, swords, and other cool weapons on display. I've seen batarangs too (yes, real ones). Dark knight batarangs, arkham batarangs, and a batarang whos shape I've never seen before. And would'nt you damn know it....they were the shape of the new ones. I have a saved pic somewhere on my laptop at home, i'm posting it tonight to show you guys. They were taken in November/December. If I'm right on this, I'm going to the next show next month and buying one.

For the love of god, I just read previous few pages and even though I know how crazy this place can get, I am still quite often baffled by what can give birth to a discussion. "Grappling/grapnel gun is not high tech enough and looks too much like a gun."

YES! You are correct! I was thinking I saw another gun with those similar looking proportions before...

I can see it as well now.

I guess because it does subtly remind of the huge revolver with the shape and wooden handle. And that barrel on the grapnel gun kinda does look like the revolver cylinder.

I think the tech cowl may go OVER the regular bat cowl. I think there's a good chance it's for use in the batwing/jet, and it just looks like it might be big enough so that he can do that without having to take his regular cowl off. Because the mouth area looks way to big to just have Affleck's bare face in it.

However, it might just be a thing that is worn on its own. I thought it might go under the armour cowl too, but I've changed my mind about that.
