I don't need to justify anything. I think the suit looks good, and I'm providing a possible explanation as to why it looks like that, beyond the obvious success it getting the suit to look like the comic book physique (and the physique of the suit is obviously not meant, in real life or in the movie, to look like Bruce Wayne's actual physique. That's common sense). If you can't stand it, fine, but I still like it and see the value in the suit being bigger than Affleck. Oh, and I quite like Snyder's stylistic choices, for Batman and Superman. And I'm certainly glad Snyder doesn't defer to you when it comes to stylistic decisions.
First of all there's no need to get upset. Secondly, i didnt say that the suit looks good or bad (at least not in that post), just that in such a comicbooky setting, you dont need to justify anything with realism. The batsuit looks thicker because Snyder is immitating the TDKR Batman, not because of some pseudorealism.

And finally, how can you be glad that Snyder doesnt take queues from me when you havent heard my pitch yet?

The only times the suit has not looked great, or has appeared to be too bulky, are in awkwardly photoshopped pictures/covers like this one.
Also the picture where he stands next to the batmobile, this shot of him amongst the rubble in the first trailer, and when he stands up inside the batmobile to face superman who just broke the canopy. He looks twice as thick as Superman who is already buff.
THIS ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

Hahahahaha! Preptime at its finest.

No, he doesn't. The only time I think it's fair to say he looks twice as thick as Superman is on this horrendously photoshopped Empire cover, which doesn't actually seem to even be a real photograph of Ben in the Batsuit.

He looks pretty fat and with no neck in the gif posted right above your post.

I am flabbergasted by people's love for this suit. It looks incredibly over padded in the arms area. I'm happy the majority love it, but I would have thought there would be complaints about it.
Because it looks great in pretty much everything else we've seen

Literally half of his body is obscured by shadow and you are unable to even see a clear outline of the size of his torso. He also seems to be standing up from a crouch.

But hey, "your perception is your reality", as they like to say.

For me as well. I love it for what it is. I'd even love it as the end of this movieverse. But i'm kind of annoyed that Snyder's fanboyism for it overcame common sense. Sure, the robo batsuit is freaking amazing, and i do want to see SM and BM duke it out, but i'd never use TDKR as source material for the beginning of a new universe, nor would i base the design of my movies on Miller's artistic skills.

Hey, i LOVE all-star superman, but i'd never make a superman suit that looks like Quitely's.

He isn't using TDKR as the source material...as he has said multiple times (especially made it clear, this Comic Con). They are taking elements out of TDKR, but the story is different.

Like i said, "as much of TDKR as he can get away with". Unfortunately for him he cant adapt it page for page.

Agreed. Now, even if Batman was thicker than Superman, why would it matter?

It makes perfect sense in this universe, considering Batman has been operating for years. Superman is the rookie here.

Why do you think that?

It seems to me that you think that Snyder is a Batman fanboy..what made you reach that conclusion?

(Unless, I am mistaken. In which case, I am sorry).

No, he's a Miller fanboy. What makes me think so? The fact that he's often stated that its his dream to adapt TDKR. And WB was like "hey want to direct the start of our universe?" And he's like "but i only care about TDKR".

So they seem to have found a compromise.

Well, in truth, there's just no need for Superman to be so huge or the "biggest" member of the JL (outside of what fans want). He is the strongest no matter what. His physique is natural. He doesn't work out, nor does he need to in order to be strong. He could be thinner than Wonder Woman and would still retain the same strength and power.

Batman is a human. In order for him to do what he does, it requires him to work out and lift weights to retain his peak level of strength. This would naturally make him a big guy. Beyond that, it's clear he's wearing a suit with some sort of armor/padding that was also sculpted to look animalistic and intimidating.

I do think the batsuit looks just a bit over-padded in some shots, but most of these are just awkward press shots for covers/posters. We haven't got many shots of it from the movie itself, so it's impossible to know how it will look most of the time.

Also, I reckon the large look of batman is intentional. If they're going for the stout look of Miller's DKR art, I can see why they're making him look so thick. It's not my preference (I like a more streamlined look), but I can understand where they might be going with it.

I wouldn't mind if they continue to streamline the suit in future films.

Aesthetically, this Batman is a very clear nod to TDKReturns. Which I'm fine with, but yeah. I'd love to see more tweaks and modifications. Curious as hell what Ben Affleck will choose to do once he's in the director's chair.

Has he ever indicated what his favorite version of Batman is?

He himself has also praised TDKR and according to Kevin Smith a huge fan.

Not a single person has ever directly asked him about his fandom or familiarity with the character. It's always been through a third party, which was mildly irritating.

I intended to ask him this specifically at CC, but damn me if there weren't already 50+ people lined up already.

I'd like to know whether he's solely an 80s batfan, or if by chance he continued his readership well into the 90s and 00s. That's always an interesting perspective and a good indication of where he might take the character.

When he was promoting Gone Girl someone brought up TDKR and he responded with ''If you're going to take...you're going to take from the best'' or something like that. i can't seem to find that vid tho.

It's the thought that counts, Jekecy. Hopefully those 50 people ahead of you didn't ask mind numbingly stupid questions.

I look forward to the BvS press circuit. Hopefully that'll shed some light. Especially if it's officially announced that he is directing the reboot by that time.

Yeah, I think Kevin Smith said that one of the reasons Affleck signed on to Daredevil was because of Frank Miller's run on that book. At the time the Batman franchise was on ice (pun intended), so Affleck thought doing Daredevil would be as close as he could get to Dark Knight Returns. Little did he know. :funny:
