If I were a betting man, I'd wager that this design was mostly derived from the artwork of Jim Lee, Frank Miller and David Finch.

^ The texture of the suit, in particular, is very reminiscent of Finch's Batman; and all three aforementioned artists consistently depict the character with a very imposing and large, muscled frame.

Unfortunately I don't think that's what he means. I think he is talking about a hulking, muscular silhouette. I hope I'm wrong!

In other news, Coco, can you spot a detail (or two) in this nearly photorealistic iteration of the suit that should make guys like you and I happy?

The black makeup is simply not going to go away. White people tend to have very light skin(...gee really). So you jet a cowl that can get pretty jet black so you don't want that pink fleshy skin peaking out. Looks terrible.

I agree. I'm white and the one time I forgot my eye makeup while vigilanting as Black Beetleguy, two car thieves actually laughed at me.

I don't know... I've always thought that if the eye holes were small enough, i cwouldn't care if i could see the skin around the eyes. I don't mind it on Adam West, for example.

Wearing a tight mask too close to your eyes might not be very comfortable. Also, no matter how close you make the eye holes, you'll still have to put makeup on the eyelids.

Agreed. The black eye makeup is a necessary evil. Comic artists never had to really deal with it, but in live action it's noticeably distracting if there's white flesh around the eyes. It's better if the entire mask area is blacked off asides from the obvious whites of the eyes, which can't be avoided.
