I still love Bale in BB, but after that, it just went downhill for me.

I still like his Bruce Wayne, though.

Both the voice and the suit took a bad turn after BB.

Agreed, the voice was fine in Begins aswell it's in the other two it went really ridiculous.

lol, no contest

Speaking of the batvoice, I just stumbled upon "Watchmen" recently and I can't believe I didn't realize this before, but batfleck's voice is very similar to Rorchach's. Just with a bit more bass to it.

All this prisoner of the moment retro active backlash to Nolan's films (particularly TDK Rises) and Bale's Bruce Wayne / Batman performance is absurd.

Bland? He now has established the iconic voice of Batman. The growl is often imitated. Either being serious imitation or as overly nit picky parody.

Christian made the character more layered and nuances than he has ever been or probably ever will be.

The bashing of these various recent films which are by far the cream of the crop in the subgenre of comic book movies by people claiming to be Batman fans is absurd. And kind of alarming.

All we've seen is quick glimpses of what Affleck has done so far. I'm not even ready to put his performance based off that over Keaton's B89 portrayal let alone the man who carried the foundation of weight through nuanced and heart felt acting chops the way Bale did for an entire trilogy of movies spanning 7 to 8 years of filming.

That's just disrespectful. Bale exceeded Keaton and left giant shoes to fill. It's like any NBA superstar trying to chase the definitive greatness and GOAT that was Michael Jordan. Bale took the bar set by Keaton and moved it to the stratosphere. Too early to claim Affleck being better.

In regards to the costume? Yes his is more comic accurate but that doesn't make it better. Bale was still identifiable Batman.

And imo as it was show cased on film, even in harsh lighting is a better suit. And looked more believable as actual paramilitary or swat like real world armor. Modern knight like ... yet still retained the exact essence of Batman. He also looked quite intimidating.

The latter requires more atmospheric lighting for suspension of disbelief. Bale's given the use of more rigid and plated materials on the armor and cowl ... looks like actual armor.

Nolan went for more plausible.
Snyder went for more mythological.

Nolan's Batman looks like a practical warrior. Snyder's looks like an organic, living gargoyle ... with a textured suit that resembles Kevlar with armor underneath. But it definitely needs to be accentuated by atmospheric lighting or setting compared to Nolan's take.

Its not retroactive backlash. There has always been a point of contention amongst fans concerning Bale's portrayal of Batman. People have often ridiculed his voice, his lack of deductive skills, and I personally was not particularly fond of the rounded out helmet motif of his Batsuit TDK and beyond. Prior to Batfleck, people have stated how Bale's character was more compelling as Bruce, while Keaton was a better Batman (I don't agree with this sentiment). With Batfleck indirectly addressing most of the commonly agreed upon flaws of Bale's portrayal, while apparently not forsaking the positives, like a compelling Bruce, it is quite easy to accentuate Bale's flaws.

Wow, it's weird I woke up thinking about this very subject, so let me speak on this...

Batman Begins was a great Batman movie, Bale excels as both Bruce & Batman
The Dark Knight was a good movie, good villain, Batman seemed to play 2nd fiddle, but still a good movie.
The Dark Knight Rises was different for me, I liked it better than The Dark Knight, but not as much as Begins, I felt like he was Batman more in this film, and while the villain wasn't was well acted, I felt the story was better.

My knock on Bale's Batman wasn't his voice, but his parents...he mourned Rachel far more than he ever did his parents. He never seemed haunted by what happened to them OUTSIDE of the on-the-ice scene in Begins. For 3 films, I waited for the scene of him at his parent's graves, a man tormented by this tragedy...and it never came.

As far as the Batsuits, LOVED the panther-neck Begins suit, to me it was Batman in every sense. TDK/R suit was more "practical" but it didn't feel like Batman to me.

That's good because I honestly think that Rorshach's voice is the voice that Bale was trying to do with Batman. Animalistic and creepy (and he was almost that for BB) but JEH just took it to another level.

Just the way Rorshach says "Somebody KNOWS." sends chills down my spine :yay:

Batman Begins Hot Toys figure looks nice though. And these are fine comparison photos of grapple guns:

Indeed. I like Rorchach's voice. The "you're locked in here with me" line actually reminded me a bit of "that SOB brought the war to us" one when it comes to the voice. Could be that it's partially due to the fact that both Rorschach and Batman were pretty angry when they spoke their respective lines. Anyway, strange that I didn't notice the similarity earlier.

Round 1 goes to BatFleck. Next up is Arkham City Batman. :batman:

^ Hey, no fair!

AC has the long ears :D

That's pretty much a determining factor for me. AC wins that one ;)

Those long ears are actually the reason why I always played with DLC skins (mostly, "Year One" skin). They look ridiculous to me.

I'm going to have to go with Affleck again. That head on the Arkham City figure is just too frickin' long! lol

Considering that Ben, himself, has a relatively long skull (see image below), anyone whose head length significantly exceeds that would look pretty abnormal in real life.

Yeah even though it comes closer, I still have to give it to BvS, those ears look ridiculous, especially if you try to put it on Ben Affleck Batman.

JEH Watchmen voice is definitely an extension of Bale's Begins performance just sans the boom post production gave the voice in TDK/TDKR. As was the Judge Dredd reboot voice.

Like I said, Bale was ballsy and influential with his take.

Beyond just a few out of breath scenes in both films I feel it's a dramatically over played nit pick.

As for Affleck's voice. It's all modulation. Pure and simple, so it has little to do with actual performance. Which is a good way to go IMO both for making the character beastly but also avoiding it sounding like Ben Affleck in a bat costume. Or in Bale's case for some fans, trying too hard to sound bad ass.

Actually it's kind of practical too that he would use a voice modulator.

I love that they brought back the intimidating, massive thick neck from the BEGINS suit for the BvS suit. Makes the silhouette more imposing.

That comparison makes everything about the TDK suit seem ridiculous, and I liked it!

The Dark Knight Hot Toys figure is actually quite cool just an awkward close up in that shot

Also is it a fetish here to have to bash everything Nolan? It's not even like these franchises are in competition. I'm pretty sure crapping on Marvel here can get you banned but for some reason Nolan bashing is perfectly fine?

It looks awful here too.
Especially that face.

Can I ask why are we even comparing them in the first place? Again is it to just take pot shots at the Nolan franchise?

Did Nolan hurt some people here?

Fanboys take a dump on the previous incarnation as their way of showing excitement over the current one.

Nolan fans did this to Burton/Keaton when Batman Begins first came out, and it'll probably happen to Batfleck when the next Batman comes around.
