BvS The Batsuit Thread - Part 9

The style of the Nolan films, TDK in particular were perfect for the time. What I wish fans would learn collectively is that there is not a perfect interpretation of the Batman but a perfect one for the time. I think a lot Batman fans have a vague idea of what a new Batman on film should look like but I think whether he had knee pads or trunks isn't the issue. I'm almost positive I will love the suit and I'm sure Affleck will look good in it. I'm just more worried about the movie itself and how they are going to make this work.

Darn straight! Between Batman and Robin and the lighter Marvel films, Nolan decided to take an approach that was seldom, if ever, used.

I think we're spoiled by the Avengers in terms of celebratory fantastical comic interaction. How many films have lived up to it in terms of realizing the genre and being playful and fun?

I don't expect BvS to be better than TA, but it should be a standout in its own right.

I've got to face it, the Batman suit in Arkham Origins looks the best to date, and most relavant. Bale cowel mask looked okay sometimes, but on the other hand looked too big, I mean the head, and his face mask also. I want to move on from Nolan's Batman. It would be very consistent if they keep Batman's suit as close to the comics as possible, as Snyder has done with the Man of Steel suit, it looks traditional and modern and alien all at the same time. Seeing Bale's version of the suit in this with Superman, I could use a better mask.

One good thing about Affleck for Batman is he has quite a long narrow head. That means the shape of the cowl can also be long and narrow just like it is in the comics.

First, I firmly believe that Nolan made the Joker use make-up because he liked the look, not because it was "unrealistic." This is due to a few things, first, there are concepts of a Joker that looks very much like he would have had bleached skin in the TDK art book

Maybe, but it doesn't "excuse" it. I think it would have been better if they kept it a mystery. Maybe it's makeup, maybe it's his skin color. But that's my personal opinion, and I like the dark knight trilogy anyway.

Nolan's Two-Face is completely unrealistic. First, he would be dead, a person couldn't survive a burn like that. Secondly, he wouldn't have been able to move his jaw or eye, since the muscles required to do so were burned away. And Two-Face is a character that Nolan easily could have given a "realistic" look, with more toned-down burn makeup. But he didn't. So I think it's clear he just liked the grunge look of a make-up joker.

Yeah, that's one of my problems with the Nolanverse. It jumps from realism to fantasy, it breaks its own rules. They try to make everything very realistic, and suddenly Two-Face shows up even more scarred than Darkman. Two-Face looked more realistic in Batman Forever...

And with the Bat-mobile, I think it's pretty clear Nolan was taking influence from The Dark Knight Returns. It wasn't like there was no precedent for a Bat-Tank before Nolan.

That's absolutely correct, but I think the tank (:woot:) worked better in The Dark Knight Returns' world. It was kind of unexpected when you're used to the batmobile, and that giant machine shows up.

Again, I love the dark knight movies (even though I sometimes make fun of them), but I think its a bit sad that many modern movies try to "explain everything". I want colorful villains, fantasy worlds and all that stuff. It seems that filmmakers are ashamed of the material they're adapting.

But that's just my opinion.

You all realize the Nite Owl suit in WATCHMEN was a visual jab at superhero costume "excess", right? I don't want anything close to that for Batman.

The Ozymandias one was even more so.

I was always a little surprised Snyder didn't give us a more basic, fabric Nite Owl suit.

While overall I agree with what you're saying, I disagree with these two aspects. First, I firmly believe that Nolan made the Joker use make-up because he liked the look, not because it was "unrealistic." This is due to a few things, first, there are concepts of a Joker that looks very much like he would have had bleached skin in the TDK art book, and secondly, if Nolan was really that concerned with being realistic, Two-Face would have been MUCH different. Not to mention the speech impediment of missing half your lips.

the tumbler was actually designed to resemble the police vehicles in blade runner, as was the look and feel of gotham in batman begins. i'm sure dkr was a major influence too, but the design is almost identical as the bladerunner car.

I always figured Superman would have a slightly shorter, more sturdy cape than Batman. But in MoS, his cape is pretty long and regal, do you think they'll change it to contrast Batman's cape? I don't want them to look identical apart from the color.

Scallops and length that drags to the floor, will easily distinguish itself from Supes.

I don't want Batman's cape to drag on the ground. Superman can fly if he wanted to, usually, so it's less of a hindrance.

I hope they don't change Superman's cape. It was beautiful.

Batman's cape being black is different enough.

It would be more for visual effect more than anything. It's the one aspect of the cape Nolan got right. It was at several lengths depending on the scene. Most people didn't even notice.

I just want this to be honest:

Batman: Dead End (a fan film) for the uninitiated. An all-around mediocre execution, but undeniably features one of the most iconic Batman shots I've ever witnessed on any medium. Absolutely sublime.

Agreed! lol...It looks totally boss just from that one shot.

^ Fan films are pretty much always rubbish. Often amateurly made (granted they almost always have a zip budget), and have actors who imitate iconic Batman portrayals (Conroy/Bale/Keaton) which makes them even more hard to watch.

Dead End looks good in comparison to most :/

I'm saying just that one shot. I never really watched any fan films before. Seems kind of hokey unless you're doing this for film school.

This is pretty rad. Does anyone have different pictures of this suit?
