I had completely forgotten about Super. :funny:

Then again Kick-Ass came out around the same time.

Reminds me a lot when I first saw "Bad Taste" and "Braindead" I immediately thought "give LOTR to this man! Immediately!"

Some of the speeches are really "strange", especially after what we've seen so far in the first trailer.

I prefer "Super" to "Kick Ass" for the same reasons you prefer the latter. It must be said that I have liked Gunn since the days of Troma, a production and distribution company that I have always followed.
However, I understand that a certain type of Troma-comedy may not be to everyone's taste.

The interesting pattern, and which is strongly rooted in the very nature of filmmaking, is that all directors who come from b-mobies or even z-movies and then move on to make big productions always have an edge over the others when they find themselves managing high or very high budget productions.
I think of James Cameron ("Galaxy of Terror", "Piranha II: The Spawning"), Sam Raimi ("The evil dead", "Evil dead 2", "Army of darkness" "A simple plan"), Peter Jackson ("Bad Taste", "Braindead"), Guillermo Del Toro ("The devil's backbone", "Cronos", "Mimic"), James Gunn ("Tromeo & Juliet", "Slither", "Super").

Faith. Have faith.

Super is a much better, more genuinely nasty movie than Kick-Ass. It's a lot more committed to being ugly and horrible without Kick-Ass's misguided effort at also being a fun cool time. The DC stuff Gunn has done that I've liked so far is when it really feels like threading the needle between Guardians and Super. Creature Commandos, on the other hand, mostly felt like the work of the guy who wrote Scooby-Doo.

And in addition to that, Super manages to be genuinely heartbreaking and emotional.

I understand the anxiety during the weeks with no news (but hold on, the main trailer is coming!), but let's not worry when what we've seen so far is simply perfect!

Not a single day has gone by since the trailer came out that I didn't rewatch it and find myself smiling and getting goosebumps.

It's alright. Better than the rest of the show which I thought was an unrelenting dumpster fire with some clever ideas. Gunn's DC stuff apart from that is great but I really didn't need to be subjected to blandly animated microwaved leftovers of the less interesting parts of those projects.

Yeah I hated Super. I don't even remember anything about it now, I just remember thinking it was really miserable & cynical in tone, which was why Kick-Ass appealed to me way more.

I am kinda curious how I'd feel watching it now though.
"Defendor" with Woody Harrelson came out not much later too.

Around the time "Real life superheroes" were in vogue,

With all of the madness currently going around the globe, it'll definitely be nice to have an uplifting feel-good Superman movie to watch.

Fun fact: Super and Brightburn may take place in the same universe.

Do we have any reliable inklings of when Trailer 2 will drop?
We know WB has a big presentation on April 1st (4:30pm PT/7:30 ET) at CinemaCon that is reportedly Superman-heavy (Gunn has confirmed they will at least be there). So maybe there. Plus, Minecraft comes out a few days after that, and since it's a family-aimed WB movie expected to draw a decent crowd, that's the perfect timing for the new trailer to be attached. So I'd bet on that 1st week of April over Superman Day. But if not then, then sure, Superman Day lol.

My life’s been so incredibly stressful thanks to work, but this feels like the first time i’ve had genuine, palpable excitement for a superhero project since the first Reeves Batman. Really really feel good about this one
I feel quite good about it too. But it also feels like make or break for the character, and the new continuity before it even starts.
