Where's is Fillion's orange bowlcut
I need to see the bowl cut. Bowl cuts have been discriminated against in superhero movies for far too long. First it was the Toad, now it's Gardner. Who's gonna be next?! Solomon Grundy?
Hopefully nothing leaks (even though it makes things boring). Selfishly, after being around for the SR and MoS days, I would be fine not seeing anything until the first trailer sometime next year.
Fans just end up nitpicking everything to death. Even with the Returns suit, the pictures did it no justice but to me it wasn't even that distracting in the movie.
Teaser trailers are typically not released for movies until at least 6 months before release. RelaxIf we don't see anything until next year, it would be way too late. There's a difference between being meticulous with planned marketing and flat out refusing to show anything. Things must be shown within the next couple quarters of this year or sadly, there will be lackluster momentum going into this, which is the last thing DC needs. I'm still holding out hope that Gunn may have something up his sleeve for SDCC (literally..anything. Even a poster tease) and will be okay with a teaser or trailer in late QRT 3 or 4 if it comes to it.
I'm relaxed. TOO relaxed. I have way more urgency with this film than the other outings. I want Superman to do well as a character on the big screen. That means I care, which is a good thing than not giving two 'effs. This reboot is big. Beginning with Superman in the DCU is big. With that, comes anticipation. Being a year out isn't that far off, all. Especially compared to yesteryear where it was a 3-5 year fluctuation. If we get something within this year during filming, AS WE SHOULD, I'll be good. Waiting until next year before any built up anticipation isn't ideal, IMO.Teaser trailers are typically not released for movies until at least 6 months before release. Relax
It has to begin within this year. It just has to. I agree that there is a fine line between overexposure and underexposure. We've been through this many of times, but this has now become a different situation for DC as its own studio. You don't have to unload your machine gun with nonstop rounds of ammunition to the point of over exhaustion, but you can still fire a round every once in awhile. I'm just saying I'm good with anything, big or small, happening in 2024. You don't want to put yourself in a blitz position in 2025 and things happening at a rapid rate as your post suggests above. Sprinkled awareness is the way to go with this. I am trusting the process as I said before. As a fan, I'm urgent..not negative.Ah, fandom. Always getting ourselves worked into a tizzy about marketing when we’re still over a year out. Tale as old as time lol. The real promotional stuff won’t kick in ‘til next year, and I can guarantee there will be zero “awareness” problems with the GA when that happens.
I actually think a bigger problem lately with certain movies has been the opposite: trailers have been playing for TOO long in front of every movie to the point that the audience gets sick of ‘em and wants nothing to do with the movie by the time it actually comes out. I feel like that’s part of what happened with Argylle and The Fall Guy. Even I was so sick of those trailers and I had seen The Fall Guy 2 months early and loved it. Starting to promote a movie too early can be just as detrimental as promoting it too late imo.
We’ll get leaks and pics later this year. I have no worries about that. But Gunn & Co. shouldn’t be worried about marketing the movie at this point, just making it.
I can’t agree. Kicking your marketing campaign off 6 months in advance doesn’t even count as “blitz” marketing. That’s just standard marketing lol. Look at Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Teaser poster hit in February, teaser trailer hit in late March, for a September 6th release. There’s already tons of awareness and we just got a 2nd trailer. That’s normal. And the same studio as this, so likely not far off from WB’s plans for this. Nothing “needs” to start this year at all for it to get plenty of awareness and momentum going by next July. Absolutely nothing at all. But we probably will get a few things anyway, just due to Gunn’s perpetual fan engagement online. It has to begin within this year. It just has to. Normal doesn't always apply in DC terms givin the nature of its recent history. Keaton as a lead in an 80's highly anticipated sequel some odd decades later doesn't really need as much messaging compared to what is and what has happened to the DC brand. I'm not asking for full blown; balls to the walls marketing at this stage. I'm more in favor of the "give us a few things anyway" that hopefully is happening shortly. Even a teaser poster near SDCC will hold me over in the meantime. Gunn has no problems posting on social media, as you said..or hell, going out of his way to debunk random scoops. It's a Catch 22 being a DC fan right now lol. WB is still in a "prove it" position so naturally fans will have bigger eyes on how things are handled. It's just what we do. It's also good for us who enjoy engaging in places like this.I can’t agree. Kicking your marketing campaign off 6 months in advance doesn’t even count as “blitz” marketing. I agree it’s fun for fan engagement, I just don’t agree it’s necessary for the film’s success. I actually don’t want WB spending any more than is necessary when marketing this movie. Overspending has been their (and most studios’) biggest folly in recent years. The more they spend, the more they’ll have to recoup for this to be seen as a success. I think the Beetlejuice marketing track should be perfectly fine for this. Superman’s got just as much built-in cache as Beetlejuice and will likely be a better movie (since Burton hasn’t made anything worthwhile in decades and it’s written by the Smallville/Wednesday hacks), so it shouldn't need any more help than that one. But I’m happy to get little nuggets from Gunn on social media as he wants to post them. Getting hopes up for big SDCC stuff or anything big this year just feels like a classic case of fans setting themselves up for disappointment though.Normal doesn't always apply in DC terms givin the nature of its recent history. We're so far away that any leaks would be useless long term.
Plus they need to be careful with what comes out considering how the initial costume release has split opinions.
That's the kicker for me. There is no time or any comfortable space in between the DCEU and the DCU, especially with Gunn keeping elements from his personal films where we will see Peacemaker still ongoing for Season 2 and actors like Viola Davis continuing her role as Amanda Waller. She will even have her own series where the audience can go back and see her face attached to a film like the OG SSquad, which was only the third film released in the DCEU.I’m perfectly content with no marketing until next year. The more time between the stink of the DCEU and the release date for this, the better imo. In a world overloaded by content, I think they’re best served with a shorter but intense marketing window where they really hammer home to the GA that this is a fresh start.
It would be really nice for the new face of the DCU and Superman to be able to show himself and be able to talk to the world, for starters.
