The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

That's the kicker for me. There is no time or any comfortable space in between the DCEU and the DCU, especially with Gunn keeping elements from his personal films where we will see Peacemaker still ongoing for Season 2 and actors like Viola Davis continuing her role as Amanda Waller. She will even have her own series where the audience can go back and see her face attached to a film like the OG SSquad, which was only the third film released in the DCEU.

We saw Cavill in Black Adam in October 2022, announced his "return" weeks later, was out in December 2022 with Superman Legacy and the DCU Gods and Monsters revealed in January 2023. David was cast in July 2023, the DCEU ended with Aquaman 2 in December of 2023 and here we are at the end of QRT 2 in 2024 with Superman almost more than halfway finished with filming.

There is no breathing room, for lack of a better word. There's no fixing time in between at this point. They chose what they chose instead of taking a breather for 3 years before rebooting. Their biggest hurdle is differentiating and having the build to revamp a brand new DC Universe, with some actor carryover. It would be really nice for the new face of the DCU and Superman to be able to show himself and be able to talk to the world, for starters.
Brother you do realize that if they begin promoting it in 2025 they'll still have 6 full months to promote the thing? Geez.

All of that is gonna happen... when the film comes out... next year. They're gonna spend a LOT on marketing when the time comes. They're calling it "the summer of Superman." I don't see em shying away from major exposure here.
"..for starters". I know all of that is going to happen. I just feel things need to kickstart a little sooner than usual or the norm. When you hear chatter of a cast that is relatively unknown across the board in a pivotal era for DC on film, it won't hurt to give a little somethin-somethin in the meantime.

I do. Those will be good times. I just think giving the public a kick-starter within this calendar year to get the conscience going into 2025 will be a good idea for the studios situation. Don't wait too long. You don't have to gas it, but hit the pedal a few times to make sure things are flowing beforehand.

They dropped a reveal picture that trended on social media for a day. That's enough for the time being.

A teaser poster in the next few will tickle the fancy. Maybe a Corenswet/Brasnahan photo for good measure before the time being.

Exactly. Show us one more official 2nd photo of David, in all his glory, before the papazarri shoot in Ohio begins to get ahead of it so the split opinions can reset itself. Then go on from there as you wish.
Oh, that split opinion isn't going anywhere, I guarantee that. Memes aside, and even looking at places or forums like this one, a new photo may make some go 'Okay, that's better,' but conversely, you'll have some wonder why a potentially better second photo wasn't the first one to begin with.

Apocalypse actually looking blue in the first trailer for X-Men Apocalypse didn't have people rethink or forget that the lighting in the very first reveal made him look purple.

I believe Superman is the most anticipated movie for 2025. Why would Gunn want to ramp up marketing before Deadpool 3 comes out. It almost sounds like you guys would want a Man of Steel type teaser trailer in front of Deadpool. Relax the DCU is gonna let Marvel’s 3 movies show the way and then pounce like a cat on a mouse.

I think we get our first teaser late this year. Sometime between October and December. And set leaks this summer will also be like the film being promoted because those photos will be everywhere. Especially social media.

I do wonder if Gunn and co. are gonna release a better look at the suit before the location filming, because whether you loved or hated it, there's no doubt that overall reception was mixed, and they must be aware of that.

Yeah I don't see the positive to allowing nothing to leak. Half the fun of fandom for me is in the speculation, discussion and excitement during the lead up to release.

What exactly is the negative impact they are guarding so heavily against? How would it be damaging to have a few shots leak every now and then?

I dunno, maybe I'm missing something 🤷‍♀️
The why doesn't matter...if Gunn wants it under wraps he wants it under wraps. Our desire to see photos does not trump what he wants it's his movie.

Ah, fandom. Always getting ourselves worked into a tizzy about marketing when we’re still over a year out. Tale as old as time lol. The real promotional stuff won’t kick in ‘til next year, and I can guarantee there will be zero “awareness” problems with the GA when that happens. :funny:

I actually think a bigger problem lately with certain movies has been the opposite: trailers have been playing for TOO long in front of every movie to the point that the audience gets sick of ‘em and wants nothing to do with the movie by the time it actually comes out. I feel like that’s part of what happened with Argylle and The Fall Guy. Even I was so sick of those trailers and I had seen The Fall Guy 2 months early and loved it. Starting to promote a movie too early can be just as detrimental as promoting it too late imo.

We’ll get leaks and pics later this year. I have no worries about that. But Gunn & Co. shouldn’t be worried about marketing the movie at this point, just making it.
Absolutely! This is all 100% truth!

It has to begin within this year. It just has to. I agree that there is a fine line between overexposure and underexposure. We've been through this many of times, but this has now become a different situation for DC as its own studio. You don't have to unload your machine gun with nonstop rounds of ammunition to the point of over exhaustion, but you can still fire a round every once in awhile. I'm just saying I'm good with anything, big or small, happening in 2024. You don't want to put yourself in a blitz position in 2025 and things happening at a rapid rate as your post suggests above. Sprinkled awareness is the way to go with this. I am trusting the process as I said before. As a fan, I'm urgent..not negative.
I disagree. I think you are putting how we look at these movies onto the general audience and most of them don't know or care about a film until the latter trailers. This isn't 2015 hype isn't what it used to be.

January will be fine.

That would be perfect and smart.

Sure this isn't 2015. And it also isn't 2015. Use social media as a tool because Gunn is a poster, anyway. One of his main goals was to be a buffer in communication. I'm not saying blow the load on marketing right now. Not what my main concept of a gripe is. I'm just saying it would be wise to give us a few more things within this year. As Gamma said, sometime within QRT 3 or 4 would be great or a teaser poster as a surprise at SDCC.

January would also be fine:beaming: because LFG.

Just going by what Gunn has shown so far, getting new stuff will be few and far in-between.

I don’t think we should be getting leaks every day anyway or people will get sick of it. Neither barbie nor Oppenheimer had leaks every day

Compared to previous iterations of the Kent Farm (Both Film & TV), this choice looks both uninspired and lazy.

Aside from his casting, all of James Gunn's creative decisions have fallen flat with me.
Have you ever actually seen a farm?

You know they can add to it right?
