Why the heck would Lex design a suit that’s emulating Superman’s— the piping, lines, are almost the exact same — if its identity is supposed to be a secret? ...

Not to mention, that everybody will publicly see that the clone has the exact same powers as Clark
.
(P.S the clone is also bigger, and taller than Clark)

“Not really sure how being a deterrent prevents the clone from also being used to damage Superman's reputation. It's Lex. The clone is going to have multiple usages.”

Because then the government would have to be in on the framing of Superman (they’d know about it), and that’s very illegal, and dumb.

I just think this theory falls apart with even the slightest bit of logistical scrutiny
this is why I'm more leaning towards a Bizarro hybrid scenario.... as Bizarro would probably demand a super suit (or even if he came from a Bizarro alternate world, maybe he already had the suit) and it would make since that suit would be the opposite of Superman's (dark colors, different shape piping lines, different symbol) and Bizarro was always slightly bigger and bulkyer them him

also goes for "same power" argument (as Bizarro has similar/equal in strengths/an invulnerability , but, opposite power site, such freeze laze eyes/ heat breath... ) where he would be able to match Superman but, not look the exact same doing soo

Maybe this’ll help you get it 😭

There are very obvious, and INTENTIONAL similarities between both designs in terms of accents and design elements. Sure, it’s not the **exact** same, but it’s obvious overlap between them

Ultraman’s suit is meant to be a corrupted version or Clark’s suit ala Spider-Man - Venom.

….And has laser vision, and probably freeze breath, is super fast etc. Superman is probably the only hero with those powers in the movie’s present

What I’m saying is that if the Gov are involved in Ultraman’s creation, and they almost certainly are:

Since Lex is working with the military, then he wouldn’t be able to use it without their involvement. It’s clearly a jooint project
Half the lines you painted over aren't even correspondent with the actual lines in the suits what the **** lmao

It would certainly be a waste to do bizarro without a fun classic look to him and his origins.

This villain at the moment looks like something from Superman and Lois but I'm not judging it till I have full context.

I'll throw this at the wall for a different idea that's probably 100% wrong. What if it's Lex in his armour but he has it covered with material to make people think its human and we don't even know till later in the film. *Shrugs*

Waid is a mediocre writer who did two great stories (Kingdom Come and Birthright, the former heavily undercut by the fact its message is about literally nothing that actually matters and is ultimately kind of just fanboy whining - I still love it to death though). Nothing really impressive about him as a writer overall, IMO. He's Fine but unremarkable - someone of similar stature to Waid I'd consider a lot more talented is Kurt Busiek.

Kirby's amazing but I wouldn't describe him as a great writer in the traditional sense of the word.
Tower of Babel is probably the greatest Justice League story of all time in my opinion. Actually, I’d put Waid’s JL run as best of all time for JL. I also think that you underestimate what Kingdom Come’s underlying “message” really is. I think it is incredibly layered and even has a profound theological and political message at its core.

I basically love almost everything Waid writes and I think that he is the most imaginative writer going today. But it makes complete sense that if your favorite writers are Morrison and Moore, that he wouldn’t float your boat. We obviously have different tastes and are drawn to different tones. I would venture to guess that we probably meet at the middle and would both probably rank Len Wein very high.

Look I love Morrison as much as the next guy...but lets not pretend he is some amazing guru the guy is completely nutso half the time depending on how often he microdoses :o People overuse his quotes almost as much as they overuse Alan Moore quotes...though Morrison is way saner than Moore is ;)
I’m catching up after being MIA yesterday.

Morrison is brilliant. I just don’t enjoy his comics. That probably says more about my tastes and lack of intellect than it does anything about Morrison though.

I want the classic (and surprisingly consistent for like decades of comics) Jor-El costume so bad. I'm a little sad there doesn't seem to be any Krypton stuff in this movie because I ****ing love Krypton stuff. You cannot and should not do the 78/MoS structure of a huge portion of the first act taking place on Krypton again but in my heart of hearts I sorta wish it did.
Yeah that "area of his life" won't matter, when we have Guy Gardner, Mr T. and Metamorpho! Who according to Gunn (and fans) you can't tell a true Superman story without. :funny:- The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread
Though to be fair Krypton would likeley be shot in studio set, where you aren't getting street shoot leaks.
There’s no way that suit is Kryptonian 😂 it looks wayyy too earthbound to be alien. And it also looks kinda… Cheap? Which I assume is the point
I mean this is Gunn, he's obviously going to build his whole U. on clowning the classic, to extol the fun offbeat b team.
What were people expecting?

Saw this on Reddit and thought it interesting to share that Mister Terrific appears to be wearing the Lordtech (Maxwell Lord) logo on his chest under his Jacket.

Morrison and Waid are two very different beasts. I consider Morrison the more creative and interesting of the two, but Waid’s stories are more enjoyable in the traditional sense, even if some of his takes can feel a bit “stuck in the past.” Very glad we’ve got both, though. They both get what I love about Superman like few writers have.

I like both Waid and Morron for different reasons.

Waid is like a good pop band that always puts on a good show, writes enjoyable songs that won't change your life but always deliver a good time. Morrison is like Rush or Tool where they are super creative and deep and you either love them or hate them.

I can agree that Morrison gets what makes Superman tick. And I agree that All Star is an amazing book. Most of his stuff isn’t my cup of tea, but I admit that it’s quality. I wouldn’t say that he is definitely one of the best two writers in history, but he is good.

(forgive me - the amount of typos, I couldn't resist)

Very much agreed (although a friendly reminder that Grant uses they/them. I accidentally did the same thing but caught it on my final proofread).

I really love All-Star (despite its very outdated approach to Clark and Lois) and I tremendously respect Grant's talent, but generally speaking they ain't my jam. Filling everything with wacky Silver Age characters ain't really my thing. Their Batman really doesn't match my taste.

I liked some of their Batman run...but honestly their Batman and Robin with Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin was better IMHO.

With location filming having begun and potential spoilers leaking as a result, come here to discuss Superman (2025) in a spoiler-free environment.

This thread is for those Superman fans who want to discuss the film, but who would prefer less cutting edge news and investigative reporting than found in The Daily Planet. :D

Hey, I think those B list characters are wildly more interesting than both a majority of Superman's supporting cast and also pretty much the whole classic Justice League. There are plenty of red flags around this project but that ain't one of them.

Gunn isn't clowning the classic. It's unselfconsciously silly. You can embrace the aesthetic of these being children's adventure heroes from the 40s and still deal with compelling, serious subject matter. If anything I feel like it adds to it.

You know what I don't think I ever read Tower of Babel? I feel like I absolutely must have at some point in my life but I'm realizing I am unsure. Curious on your read on Kingdom Come's message, there's absolutely some stuff going on there but I just always have this underlining sad feeling that this beautifully made story isn't about anything other how 90s comics suck and are immoral (which I don't disagree with! And it doesn't feel as infantile as What's So Funny in that regard). Not that there's anything wrong with a superhero story not having some profoundly interesting deeper meaning - just that Kingdom Come clearly presents itself as such and thus invites that kind of examination.

Wein's one of the great old school guys! Also if we're talking classic writers I'm a big O'Neil fan. Especially because he really grew with the times as a writer. His Batman might be his biggest historical accomplishment but his peak was The Question, imo.

Batman RIP and some of the stories after Bruce's return are stronger but the Dick and Damian era is so much fun. I'd be perfectly happy for them to be the status quo Batman & Robin for a long, long time.

I really enjoyed Tower of Babel but Morrison’s JLA run is the only main group book I’ve ever truly loved.
