The Multiversers: Hypertime

Kara flies up next to him and hovers in the air. She reads the sign in a flash and then glances up using her X-ray vision on the area surrounding them.

"There's no one around. However I think it would be best if we stayed close together until we figure out a plan."

She thought for a moment.

"Why did we land in Gotham City? Kal-El lands near Smallville, Kansas. At least in my Universe."
She glanced around looking for opinions and feedback.

"Mabey ol' cronos wanted us to get the help from la resistance, so he sent us where they were. Besides, with your flying and Savi's speed, we could get to the belt buckle of America faster than McDonalds opens it's doors after a weight watchers meeting."

Savitar looks around as he exits the portal.
Everything in the vicinity lay in ruins. The sky is dark with a rusty tint to it, and smoke rises from some of the destroyed monuments.

"You should take a quick look around", said the voice in his head.

"Yes", replied Savitar in his head, "you're probably right."

Savitar disappeared in the blink of an eye as he ran around the area, surveying the damage. Most of the surrounding area was in ruins, with strange plants covering rubble and debris. He did not enter the city, but he did run through the outskirts. There weren't any signs of life, but there did appear to be surveillance equipment around the fringe of the city. He didn't see any guards though.

"Weird, there doesn't seem to be any sign of life, be it human or Martian, anywhere."

"Yes...it is strange indeed", replied Savitar mentally, "I haven't even seen one sign that would say which city this is."

"I know, but it does look familiar...", said the voice, "still you should probably get back to the others."

"Yes, you are probably right."

Only a second had passed before he returned.
Before he could relay what he saw, the clown shouted for them.
Savitar was next to him instantly and stared at the sign.

"Well, I guess we found out what city it is", said Savitar's "conscious."

"Yes...I guess we did", Savitar said aloud.

Realizing that people were looking at him funny, Savitar quickly relayed the information from his brief journey.
"I took a quick run around the area and to the outskirts of the city. There was no sign of life, but there were surveillance devices around the perimeter of the city."

Don fell to the ground. Everything seemed to slow down. It took him but picoseconds to get up.

"What... what hapened to me? Is it this place? Maybe it's you. The fast one... Heart's racing. Panicking. Can't..."

For a secon, everything was dark. When he came to, again only fractions af a second later, he understood. Speed... Force? Wow. I... Woah.

"I'm alright, I'm alright. You say.. surveillance.. what? If shootin' thing'll help, you have my axe, er, guns. And I have a lot of guns."

Kara shook her head and turned to Savitar.

"The surveillance devices. Are they aimed at the sky? Is there anyway for you to slip past?"

She turned and studied the horizon.

"We need to find part of the resistance."

Savitar scoffed at the remark, "Is there anyway I can slip past them? My dear, I am a true master of the Speed Force. There is not a device or obstacle that I cannot 'slip past'."

"Easy, Savitar. No need to be a jerk about."

Savitar sighed, and, entering speed mode, replied in his mind, "Yes, yes...you're right."

"Of course I am", the voice said in a smug yet joking tone.

"You're just still upset about what's gone down, and I don't blame you. I would be too in your case. Hell, I kinda am in your place, technically speaking. I don't like not knowing what's happening to our friends either, but you have to concentrate on this world now. It seems like it could use some heroes in a major way."

"Yes, it does indeed appear that they do have need of us. Very well...they will now have the Lord of Motion's full attention. I shall not rest until these people have been freed."

"All right. I kinda feel sorry for the Martians now."

Savitar smiled at the comment from his "conscience."

Dropping back to real time, Savitar caught Supergirl's next comment as she turned and looked to the sky.

"We need to find part of the resistance."

"Yes that does seem to be the best course of action."

Savitar continued by answering Supergirl's other question, "As for the surveillance devices, they are pointed in all directions. It seems these Martians are a paranoid lot. But, as I said, there is not a device created that I cannot get by."

"Is there anyway I can slip past them? My dear, I am a true master of the Speed Force. There is not a device or obstacle that cannot 'slip past'."

Kara raised her eyebrow at his tone, but he seemed to be preocuppied with something for a second before rephrasing.

"As for the surveillance devices, they are pointed in all directions. It seems these Martians are a paranoid lot. But, as I said, there is not a device created that cannot get by."

"Well, then they probably already know we're here anyway, their telepathic minds and all." She said.

"Why didn't he send us with a telepath?" She thought

"However, no harm in being careful. I'm going to 'fix' a few of these devices. Savitar, if you can get through them you should try. The rest of you stay here."

Kara flew up into the sky and had just started to use her X-ray vision for finding some of the devices when she heard something in the distance. Looking up she saw several air crafts coming towards her.

The king of candy looked up, and saw the planes flying towards them.

"Look boss! Ze plane! Ze plane!"

The subontractor of superiority takes out his cane, inflates the mallet head, and points it at the planes.

"Onward, gentlemen! We shal battle on the beaches. We shall battle on the rooftops. EXELSIOR! TALLYHO! Chip chip cherio and all that rot!"

Don had kept his secrets until now. He had given a name, and that was essentially it. But now, he had something to prove. He wanted to show them that he was just as dangerous as any of them. Maybe more.

With the truth about his parentage, came understanding. So, too, then, did come understanding with the truth about his metagene.

He could see now. For the first time in... perhaps a few years, Don West smiled.

"How bad d'ya want 'em tore up? I can take a few of them myself... just try to stand back."

Savitar sat for a relative hour as he heard his partners boast and posture, and thought out what to do. He knew that to fight now would be foolish. They hardly knew anything about this world save for the bare bones minimum, and they knew nothing of what they were up against in the form of these ships.
No, to fight now would be brash and stupid, though he would like nothing more than to wipe out these creatures for all the destruction they had caused.
For now, they needed to fall back and hide.

Savitar disappeared and then reappeared in the span of a second.

"While I admire your courage, we still have no idea about just what we are truly up against on this planet, or in Gotham. It would be prudent to avoid all Martian patrols, which I assume that is what those ships are, until we have a better understanding of our enemy and how firm a grasp they have over this city."

Savitar continued, "I have found an old sewer entrance just one mile south of here. It may be able to take us into Gotham without having to worry about the security around the city's perimeter."

Savitar looked at the clown and at the cowboy, "I can carry the two of you there in a nanosecond, and Supergirl will be able to follow us via my speed wake."

I do suggest we hurry though, they will be on us in under a minute."

"Er.. Carry? Look, I know I shoulda said somethin. earlier but..."

Don opened his long jacket, revealing it to be lined with firearms.

"What? I don't wanna get caught underarmed. I'll be kinda heavy with these. An' I ain't leavin' 'em. I'll keep up."

He recieved several quizzical looks.

"Seriously. Maybe not as fast as you, Sav, but fast enough. Really. Trust me, I just figured somethin' out. We'll talk about it on the way."

"...Very well", replied the somewhat skeptical Lord of Motion.

Savitar looked at the other two, the Jester and Supergirl. Over in the distance and closing quickly were several ships of some type. They would be withing range in moments.

"Now, if there are no objections, I think it's time we departed from here."

Kara turned quickly hearing her teammates comments, and in the blink of an eye was standing in front of the Clown grasping his arm.

"I don't know if you have Martians in your universe. But they were in mine and you have no hope of surviving a fight against them."

"How bad d'ya want 'em tore up? I can take a few of them myself... just try to stand back."

Savitar spoke up after the Cowboy.

"While I admire your courage, we still have no idea about just what we are truly up against on this planet, or in Gotham. It would be prudent to avoid all Martian patrols, which I assume that is what those ships are, until we have a better understanding of our enemy and how firm a grasp they have over this city."

"I can carry the two of you there in a nanosecond, and Supergirl will be able to follow us via my speed wake."

Kara raised her eyebrow, she had no need for a 'speed wake.'

I do suggest we hurry though, they will be on us in under a minute."

In a split second Kara was gone, she reached the old sewer entrance in less than a second. She stood there in the empty enterannce.

"That'll teach him to eat his words."

She smiled. Then quickly the smile disappeared. She felt so young again. No one to worry about.
Except, she did have people to worry about, Bart and the baby.
She waited.

A tall figure stood at the entrance of the sewers. He was tall, dark, and built like he could take on the world. He had the future on his shoulders, or so he thought.

He spoke to the newcomers, but not in their sight.

"Newcomers? Follow me. The Martians will be here soon..."

Suddenly, the arch duke of action hears an oddly familiar voice.

"Owlman?"

He walks over to where he heard the voice came from, and saw that it was not Owlman. The man was tall, and dressed in a black armor kind of like the one Batman wore in that episode of JLU where they went back in time.

Wait, was that JLU or just JL?

...yeah, it was just JL.

Damn, that was a good episode. It was so cool when they had Hitler in that cryogenic t...

BOB! Pay atention!

...sorry boss.

It's alright. Just don't do it again.

Yes sir. Anyway, the seafood comisioner of subtrifuge walked over to the stranger in the shadows.

"Eehhh. What's up, doc?"

Bruce Wayne sees a man with green hair hair. Green... wonderful... just like Him...

He took off his helmet and squints.

"You remind me of this one guy. He got his flesh burnt off his body by the Martian's eyes. Funny guy though..."

".....ooooookaaaaaaayyyyy. That's......nice. You're quite the cheery fellow, aren't ya?"

Don caught up. He followed Kara into the sewer, just a little before they met the stranger. Don always just "caught up." He couldn't lead. And this upset him. That's another reason he hated these "teams." He ran. Fast. Faster than a speeding bullet. Fast. He liked it.

Fast. Kept thinking about it. No time for it now. Don percieved the Stranger's words as a threat. To the Jester, yes, but still a threat to his compatriot. He walked up to the stranger.

"Who sent you? Answer quickly, you don't wanna get shot. Eight times in the back of the head in the amount of time it would take for you to blink. Talk."

"Haha. Funny. You're a speedster. We have one them around, somewhere..."

Before Don could notice, he was tied up with shackles in a blur of red.

"Now try something.

I DARE YOU."

The shackles came off Don instantly as they appeared to simply vanish.

"Remember Savvy, voice of reason. That looks like the Bat, which means they're friends...probably", said the voice.

Savitar appeared out of nowhere right in front of the Batman.
"Hold. We are not enemies. If we were you would not be conscious now. We come to try and help this world. My name is Savitar, and these are my...traveling companions."

Savitar nodded his head to the shadows to his left, "And you can tell your 'speedster' that he can stop vibrating his molecules and make himself visible. I can feel his Speed Force aura quite easily."

Savitar looked at the shadows to the unseen speedster, and said haughtily, "You really need to practice."

Her teammates zoomed up.

“Took you long enough.” she teased.

"Newcomers? Follow me. The Martians will be here soon..."

Kara spun around, the voice had come from the shadows.

"Owlman?" The clown asked

“Who? It sounds like..” Kara let her voice drop off as the clown bounced over to the man.
"Eehhh. What's up, doc?"

"You remind me of this one guy. He got his flesh burnt off his body by the Martian's eyes. Funny guy though..." The man said, taking his hood off.

Kara felt the words her team mates were speaking fade, and the world seemed to turn over on itself.

“Kara…what is it?”
Kara spun around to face Querl.
“Nothing, it’s confusing, all this time travel” Kara shook her head. Querl put his arm around her.
“I know. But it’ll all work out in the end.” He whispered in her ear.
Kara smiled, her heart leapeing out of her chest.

"Who sent you? Answer quickly, you don't wanna get shot. Eight times in the back of the head in the amount of time it would take for you to blink. Talk."

Kara’s head jerked up. Don’s voice bringing her out of the vision or memory. Whatever it was….wait..how did he get here so quickly?
She raised her eyebrow towards Don.

"Haha. Funny. You're a speedster. We have one them around, somewhere..."

Kara watched as a red blur swished around Don, shackling his legs.

"Now try something.

I DARE YOU."
The gravelly voice said.

Kara felt her eyes bur as she readied her vison. However the situation was soon solved by another blur, as Savitar quickly took the shackles off Don. Stopping in front of the man who’s spoken.

"Hold. We are not enemies. If we were you would not be conscious now. We come to try and help this world. My name is Savitar, and these are my...traveling companions."

Kara stepped forward from the shadows so she was visible.

"And you can tell your 'speedster' that he can stop vibrating his molecules and make himself visible. I can feel his Speed Force aura quite easily."

"You really need to practice."

“Bruce Wayne.” She stated.
“The Batman. You are the resistance leader. Why am I not surprised. Some people have a set destiny.” Kara said, thinking that all incarnations of Batman were leaders and rebels.

“Lead us.” Kara motioned accepting his offer. She turned to the others.
“We can toss around threats and jokes later. The Martians are a threat that we aren't prepared for right now.”

"Fine. Then follow us."

Walter West stopped vibrating, making himself visible. He wore red glasses and a red suit with a yellow lightning bolt on it.

"Practice. Ha! Who needs practice?"

Bruce and Walter began to walk down the sewers, as the oblivious Martians traipsed overhead.

Our state senator of slap stick followed the rebels with his compatriots. Suddenly, he spoke.

"Hey, I got a question. Martians have (compared to us) superpowers, right? How come those guys were in planes?"

"Ever heard of a thing called..."

Bruce expels a stream of fire from his gauntlet, a sort of miniaturized flamethrower. He aims it upwards at the ceiling and it spreads across the top of the sewer, lighting the ceiling top on fire.

"Fire. The Martian's are weak against fire. The crafts are durable, and keep them safe from surface to air attacks."

"Oh, and by the way, we have a thing layer of flammable gas that stays at the top of the sewer ceiling. It's easily ignitable, and can only be deignited through a switch. This way, we can light the sewers on fire when we need to."

Bruce Wayne looked at the inferno above them.

"And that's how we knew you weren't Martians."

That attitude. That face, that hair. That bolt on the outfit. Don knew.

"Wally. Just.. real quick. Got any kids?"

Don never knew his father. Now, he saw his chance. It wasn't Wallace West, Kid Flash. But it may be the closest thind Don will ever find. He would have to make do.
