It's weird, over the past eight years, I think this is, pretty much without question, the best, most realistic reason we've had to be optimistic...

We've been discussing for years what types of negotiations may or may not have taken place behind the scenes, so to finally have confirmation that the Mouse is willing to put up tens of millions of dollars is awfully nice. We don't know for sure what will happen, but I can't see Iger going off into retirement without closing his biggest deal.

Try BILLIONS. I realize that is probably what you meant, but couldn't help myself. :D

So Rupert Murdoch called Randal Stephenson a few months ago to ask if CNN was for sale. Called him twice, on May 16 and Aug 8. Something is a brewing.

I don't get why Rupert Murdoch would be spending to much time and effort in pursuing Sky just to turn around and sell it. That part just doesn't make sense. Unless he believes that his bid for the remaining shares is going to be ultimately rejected. Now at that point I could see why he may finally give up on Sky and sell his current shares.

That also led to think about something. With Disney's upcoming OTT streaming service, they're going to have to play ball with their competitors who are owned by ISP's, in regards to additional fees to handle their service. Netflix had to deal with the same thing as well. I'm starting to see some logic in why Disney could want Sky as part of the deal. If they had their own satellite service, they could bundle their OTT with that as an option, and completely bypass the existing ISP's by running that over service instead. It doesn't have to be their primary option, but an option none the less.

Hey I hear there's a bit of a chill in the air in your neck of the woods.

I was in Minneapolis several years ago for a CWA convention and liked it quite a bit. Of course, I was there in August or thereabouts. People were very friendly. I was at a bar and struck up a conversation with a Limo driver. He offered to give me and my friends a tour of the city for gas money (cheap). He said there were 2 seasons; construction and winter.

I also went to the old Metrodome and saw the Twins play. What a trip that was. They had this remote controlled blimp going around and a wolf mascot shooting packages of spam into the crowd as well as at the blimp. Every time he'd hit the blimp, the crowd went wild. It was one of the oddest experiences I've ever seen at a sporting event and wrote a short story about it. Glad I had a chance to see it up close and personal before the unfortunate event.

Yeah, Minnesota can be crazy. In the summer to be so hot and humid it I’ll drive you nuts and the winters are straight up cold. But I have to admit, it doesn’t seem as cold as it was compared to when I was a kid, back then things are a lot colder and we got more snow I’m not just making that up. Makes me think we’re headed for a really big heavy snowfall some day to make up for all these years where it’s been kind of easy on us.

Look at this map.

You are so screwed this winter. LOL. I'm in the Chicago area and it is cold as heck right now. Though I'm looking to move to Texas and right now I'm sitting asking myself why I didn't leave yet.

I see. You prefer hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding. :cwink: TBH, I'm glad Houston won the WS even though I've been a life long Dodger fan. That city needed a break.

I'll stick with the earthquakes. It was 70 and sunny today, but we did have some early cloudy skies. :cmad:

I used to go to Chicago a lot because our union had a lot of their conventions there down by the Navy Pier. It was generally in the fall and I loved that place. Lots of great music and I love the architecture of the city. LA looks like some Targaryen dragon took a dump on the skyline....when you can see the skyline.

EDIT: Naturally LA is going to be more dry than usual. Great....just what we need....another drought.

Guy messes up Iron Fist and then inhumans. Iron Fist was also a bad cast as that actor is not Danny to me, but he got redeemed a tad bit on Defenders. Inhumans won't have that benefit.

That's because people are sheep or really do not want this to happen. People like us know that conversations are ongoing, especially after what we saw from the market, and financial call non answers from Fox and Disney. Actually the market REALLY wants it, DIS goes from 99 to 105 (6%) since tuesday. FOX goes from 24 to 28 (17%) and FOXA goes from 25 to 29 (16%) in the same period. I put the odds of this deal happening at 50/50 right now.

I don’t really follow stocks (yet!), so what’s the difference between FOX and FOXA? Which do we want to keep an eye on?

Imagine the reactions if/when it happens. Threads are going to explode.

Imagine it happening just as Marvel holds a panel at one of the big audience cons....
And what if they let it slip a few minutes before the news breaks...
The roar in the con would be deafening, starting in the hall used, then washing over the con floor, then ....

We'd finally see someone break the internet.

Don't mention the World Series; it still hurts just thinking about it. :csad:

Think about all us Cubs fans.... folks are going to blame us for all the improbable and impossible things from now on...
But might have to thank us if this one comes true...

Nice to see fellow Chicagoans and a Cubs fan on here :woot:

As far as I know the Dark Lord wouldn't be allowed to own Fox News and CNN. When he put in a bid for Time Warner himself it was understood CNN was among the things that would have to be sold on to avoid Anti-Trust issues. At&T have not got the deal cleared yet themselves because of those concerns.

I still keep having a thing that is bothering me about this. I am now of the opinion that this negotiation has been going on longer than we think.

I am wondering now if the deal for the whole studio is not just about "streaming content" for the Mouse, but a ploy by NewsCorp to make the payout worth their while.

I keep going back to this last season of AoS... "The Superior Man"...

And that old echo from the comics, what Magneto always refered to his Mutants as....

Homo Superior.

I think these talks are a whole lot further along, and longer in duration, than we think.

We now have the Watchers, We have Ego.... what esle has anyone seen that might have been tied to the First Family.... let's think this one out... Could the negotiations to get FF home for their 60th Anniversary have been something more than we thought of so far?

And that is where I think it was planned all along. That the FF would come home in 2022. But could the strain from Murdoch's dream of a global media empire have forced him to lay more on the table, not just due to a series of bad results from the studio section, but that he needs the cash, to keep the NewsCorp side growing?

Not to be off topic, but I'd personally like to see that "News" Corp....well, I'm not a fan. I came home one day and my son was watching CSPAN. I asked him why. He said "I'm trying to find news and not political commentary". I watch MSNBC on a fairly regular basis, but agree with him. Somewhere along the line, he got smarter than me. Cool.

On topic, I don't care whether these negotiations started yesterday or 3 years ago. I'm all in....the FF are coming home.

With the Disney streaming service, Starz costs a dollar less per month compared to Netflix. If Disney are planning on bidding low to make themselves more attractive to consumers, they better remember that Starz is still cheaper and a more established brand.

How old is he?
Anyhow, that's sign of good parenting. :cwink:

Now remember, this is not "Thank you, Mr. Murdoch." You have to say "Thank you ChiCubs, for making the impossible probable." :ftc: When this happens.

Wait, we are all now longer saying the biggest small word in the English language about this....

Quick, some one say IF, and not mean Iron Fist, so we can avoid a certain Irishman's Law!

Just turned 22 and is a recent graduate in Biochemistry. He came up with that when he was about 15.

Good parenting???....uhhhh...wish I could take credit for that one.

Is that a member of the Brood in the S5 AoS trailer, 'cause if so, maybe the horse-trading just got really serious, as those were primarily foes for ROM and the X-Men, as I remember the stories... Wish I'd not lost my collection of comics now, so I could check it out. If it is a Brood member, then I cannot wait to see some hint of FF in this season, that would for me make this buyout seem even more like "done deal, just a few things left to work out, and the marvel rights were traded already".

As for the teaser, one that would be quick and easy to add even to A3:IW, imagine a post-cred of young Mister Parker finding out that MJ is dating some new kid at school, who put Flash in his place. "His name is Johnny."

We'd nerd-gasm melt in our seats.
