Hello, I'm new to this place.
I would like to open a side note to inform you about a user you might remember (Batdetective) because I'm one of his best real-life friend and he refered me here.
He asked me to tell everyone here he apologizes for his behaviour.
As he hinted, Batdetective is very, very sick. We had to take him in an institution where doctors can take great care of him.
He's been fighting severe depression for six years, since the death of his young wife.
I have been browsing his computer data and found each of his posts here.
And I have to agree with my friend about The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
We know each other since the age of 12 and we've been huge nerds/geeks, esp. about Spider-Man and Batman.
Now, to the main subject...
I'm not too fond in the idea of killing a main character because I believe most directors can't handle it right. When it works, it's truly magnificiant; when it fails, it's just lame and useless.
Webb is a great director and he has proven it over time. I'm not as stubborn as Batdetective in the concerns of killing Gwen but I think the evidences people here are pointing out are...false (if that's the appropriate word)
The big ''proof'' is the 3 second clip of Peter seemingly crying. That facial expression of ultimate despair. Only the death of your signifiant other could create a such face...
NOT!
When I rushed to his house, six years ago, Batdetective didn't scream in pain from the top of his lungs.
He had a mental ''blue screen of death''. He wasn't ''there'', like if he has been disconnected from reality. He didn't speak for months.
So when I see movies where the protagonist loses his loved one and scream in agony, I don't buy it. This is not realistic, to me. There is no scream powerful enough to express the pain you're facing. Your brain just can't ''accept'' the reality so it just shuts down for a while.
And no, this is not an opinion, this is psychology. It's called a mechanism of defense.
Next, I really don't mind the idea of Harry killing Gwen, but I have a problem with Peter not killing Harry if he does it. The whole concept of power and responsability isn't so central in this series, Peter is pretty much uncaring.
Thus, I highly doubt this kid would fight his girlfriend's murderer, almost killing him, then realizing he's going insane and sparing him.
This is also unrealistic to me, right in the moment where your loved one is killed, you have a sudden moment of clairty and you let live the murderer? Are you kidding?
If Webb and his team like to follow non-canon, I'm fine with it, but let's take it to the extreme. I wanna see Peter pulling a General Zod on Harry. Yeah, I wanna see Spider-Man breaking someone's neck.
Because I feel this would be the only human reaction to have. Esp. if Peter is not as responsible as he is in the comic book.
So yeah, would you like to see Peter killing Harry? Or am I alone?
PS: My nerd side wants to see faithfulness toward source material, but I would be ten times happier if Gwen lived. Because I know Batdetective would be so happy about it. I just want to see my old friend smile again, more than anything. I wish his prayers will be heard.
