Emma was perfect as always in this. Her and Andrew are a power couple together; genuine, honest and authentic.

Gwen's death was handled with much care and affection, really well done, loved it. And the cuts to Peter at her grave over the five month period were simple and elegant. Her whole death was one of the best things about this film. I'm going to miss her.

You'd hope this isn't the last movie they costar in, they're a fantastic duo and any director would be so lucky to have both of them together in their film

I liked the five month gravesite montage as well. Got so much across within a few moments. Even if we weren't told of the timeframe (we were) we would've known visually it was a lengthy period.

If you watched the end of TASM2 after watching TASM and didn't feel a hint of sadness you have no feelings. The MOST emotional scene ever in a CBM and I think it will stand the test of time. Everything is so intricately weaved to showcase this one definitive moment in spiderman's life, it is so delicate, all the little things, it makes me really sad when I think about it

The way you are describing it, kinda reminds me of this.

Especially when thinking about the scene in the first ASM where Peter throws Gwen out the window and catches her, and she smiles. The saddest foreshadowing of all time.

One thing I wished they did was in the scene that Peter's listening to Gwen's speech at the end and it flash's back to scenes of them together that they put scenes like their first kiss and others from the first movie...that would've been glorious and I probably would've criedd even more.

Definitely. It was so simply done with few shots and a couple musical cues, so very well done. Easily one of the best emotional sequences in a comic book film IMO (but not on the level BRAB is describing it at).

YES!! This would have added so much more to it and would have made my public showing of sadness even more embarrasing!

I loved their first kiss, was the most wonderful thing

When it comes out on blu ray I am sooo gonna edit those scenes in. :woot:

To those who have seen the film, the dialogue between Max and Spider-man in their first encounter was like the one in the comic con footage or was it kinda awkward?

Edit: LOL, wrong thread.

Absolutely. The moment packs punch, and left me melancholy after the film had ended. I hesitated for a moment after the end credits to ask my fellow cinema goer what they thought, because we were both staring straight ahead in pensiveness.
The graveyard stuff was good because it was more or less just one shot with alternating weather and clothing.

100% agree.

Going into the movie I thought If Gwen dies in this, It's going to be a very depressing experience but it was handled brilliantly. Very uplifting.

I have so much hope for Sony's Spiderverse. I'm actually glad they have the franchise so they can focus on developing the world more.

Considering they did that throughout the entire film i found it weird they didn't do it for that montage.

I actually did happen to feel my eyes well up a little, just couldn't help it. It all felt so raw and Andrew nailed the scene. Yes absolutely, a slightly alternate shot here and there with changed clothing and weather, and the same expression on his face every time. Absolutely beautiful.

That woud have been perfect.

I think the moment that gets to me the most was....

The final look on Gwen's Face, as she was falling down to the floor (albeit in slow motion of course).

Man, the really sold me on how sad/tragic this whole situation was. It was almost as though Gwen already knew deep down that Peter wasn't going to reach her in time and this was to be their last moment together.

Given that we saw Gwen's dad reappear in this film as a haunting hallucination for Peter, I really hope we see Emma return in the third film in the same way, only make it a lot more powerful for Peter.

Maybe it could be some sort of arc where Peter is finally able to stop seeing her once he completely moves on from that situation, perhaps with the help of MJ as his friend at that time.

When she closes her eyes its heartbreaking.. :csad:

Also, how she was amongst all of the clock debris during the fall. That added to the carnage. Peter couldn't blame himself for Gwen's death. He raised his concerns early on in the film, and again told her to leave the clocktower. But she refused because she wanted to stay with him - and she was central in defeating Electro.

^Peter still has that picture of Gwen on his pinboard at the
end of ASM2 when he's listening to her speech.

Not really a flashback, but it does bring the feels.

I swear, Peter is definitely going to have one huge case of...

Guilt on his shoulder for a long period.

He lost his uncle to a thief that he could have stopped, he lost Gwen's dad to the lizard, who made him promise to stay away from Gwen in order to protect her... and now, he lost Gwen.

Honestly, out of all of the loved ones that a hero as permanently lost on a live action portrayal, I feel like this case involving Emma's Gwen will definitely come off as the more tragic one, mostly due to how well Emma's Gwen was received by fans and critics alike, along with how likable her relationship with Peter was portrayed.

I really do not envy the person that has to play MJ next, especially when their MJ has to be the one that has to help Peter move on romantically and not come off as a consolation prize.

Definitely.

I reckon ASM3 will start off pretty somber.

I am seriously wondering how they're gonna handle MJ in the next film.

If I were directing, I'd have her try to get romantically involved with Peter but he pushes her away, and this is a recurring theme, and at the end of the film, just like Spectacular, Aunt May sets up a date and MJ says "the line".

The theme of the movie would be Letting Go/Moving on.

Back on topic now -

Was anybody else going into this film not expecting her to actually die? I didn't. :oldrazz:
