Um, this thread's title is a bit spoilerish wouldn't you say?

it was made aaaages ago when they tried to dissect the trailers

Just saw the movie a couple hours ago. Listening to the soundtrack right now and it finally hit me..

Gwen's dead...

I didn't love the movie, far from it. But this scene was amazing (no pun).

I actually enjoyed your objective negative review. You pointed out the bits you didn't like in a really fair way, whilst still mentioning bits you liked. You should give the daily star or SMH a call, they have bad reviewers :)

How would you rate that scene against other iconic CBM scenes? I thought it may have had the potential to be something really special

Terrible paint diagram I drew to show how the scene looked where it happened, so people can see where the confusion of the whole [BLACKOUT]her head touched the ground, her head didn't touch the ground[/BLACKOUT] thing came from:

her head clearly hits the ground at the same moment the web reaches her and honestly that felt more shocking, he was so close to saving her and then seeing him in denial telling her to wake up

I loved Gwen's death scene. It was handled great, lots of suspense and drama and shock to it plus I loved the snap.

Alternate scene/cut:

I've heard that Goblin himself snaps Gwen's neck. I live in England and watched the film today and Peter deals with Harry first, the web snaps, he jumps down to save Gwen, shoots his web but then it's too late, Gwen's head had already hit the ground.

I went to the midnight screening here in my country(Mexico) and god, that scene was one of the best scenes(if not THE BEST) I've ever seen in a superhero movie. The scene was so perfect and the audience was shocked, I think I even hear some crying :P

I knew the general audience (and some of us) were going to need those tissues!!!!!

This scene was definitely the best in the film. I hate MJ, and I think Gwen is a great character, as her scenes with Peter were my favorites from the first film. Seeing her die was so sad, and even though I knew it would happen, it still hit hard as all hell and shocked me. I think holding back tears took more effort in this film than in any other film I watched, including 12 Years a Slave earlier this year. The "snap" was brutal. Andrew Garfield really did a terrific job in that scene, it was heartbreaking. I also loved Gwen's speech at the end, how it affected him - it was just like Uncle Ben's voice message from the first film.

Emma Stone's Gwen is, in my opinion, the best love interest portrayed in comic book movies thus far. She'll be missed.

It's not just that:

The scenes are even more intense when you think about Peter giving up everything else for Gwen. He made a choice to stay with her and go with her to London (where he'd continue to be Spidey) and then Gwen dies.

Damn.... I'm gonna miss Gwen soo much :(

Yeah, exactly. It was so sad and heartbreaking :(

The scene leaked to Youtube. No I am not going to post it obviously. It is very well done mostly and is unfortunately, probably the best scene of the two movies.

Goblin looks ridiculous though. When he is choking Peter he is making a face like he is about to sneeze and it is very laughable. I can't wait until we can post pics of it lol.

And gets defeated in a really brief way.

I think the shot of Peter screaming in the trailer has been cut as well.

In my humble opinion, this is the most powerful scene in comic book movie history. No other scene have had this affect on me. Superb job by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Yeah, Gwen's death changed comic books and I think the profound effect it had has been exemplified in the film. People DON'T go into the film expecting the superhero's true love to die, they're superheros right? They can save anyone? What this movie showed so well is the bitterly human side of the superhero, that sometimes things don't work out, and tragic things happen.

I think that's why the scene will resonate with a bunch of people. They gave us Peter and Gwen so authentically , they built them up meticulously over two films, and what we got were characters we were invested in. We heard about their future, their past, their struggles and their triumphs, and all that got ripped away by the harsh reality of mortality. Even though the time theme was slightly campy in the way it was portrayed, it was still profound and moving.

It was a truely beautiful scene, tragic, but beautiful.

I would have liked if they kept Captain Stacy alive and built his character up in this movie so I actually gave a damn about him, then kill him at the end of this and NORMAN can kill Gwen in 3. They could have introduced Harry this time but none of that Goblin crap for him yet.

Who would've you killed at the end of TASM1? I guess uncle Ben counts?

Yes and resolve that story too with him finding the killer. I don't like how it is just hanging there.

The thread title is horrible. I'm glad I avoided the ASM2 forum for 2 full years otherwise that thread title would have ruined it for me.
