The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread III

I am seeing this movie with 7 people in a few hours. We are not going to let a lone crazed lunatic. Stop us from enjoying this movie

WOM with fanboys is mixed. WOM with the public seems more positive. I read some spoilers a week ago and figured that would happen. There is some polarizing stuff in the story if you're a big Batman fan, no doubt about it.

But all of that is overshadowed by the shooting. All TV ads pulled from the airwaves on opening day. Never happened before for a major blockbuster. Constant references in the media to the "Batman Movie Massacre" will only make matters worse.

Did you see it yet?

Yeah, the WOM for the general audience is extremely positive but regardless, TDKR has bad publicity now. It can't be undone. The Media is associating this tragedy with the film.

I think it's a classy move on WB to pull the advertising. It was the right Thing to do, as they dont want to be seen promoting the movie in the wake of a tragedy like this.

it's sad that thinks have deteriorated, and not just box office but the academy won't touch this film with a 10 ft poll now. But in the end there a much more important things in life, and I'm glad WB saw that.

Maybe I am alone in this, but I think we all need to keep a level head, wait and see how it plays out, and not let the hysteria of the moment make us jump the gun.

This is a film that will stand the test of time in the Batman universe. In 100 years time when they have done like 30 Batman reboots, people will look back and say Nolans take on Batman are classics.

This whole thing is so surreal. It's all kinds of ****ed up and I can't even believe it, to be honest.

Is it pulled for the day or what? Respectfully, I'd pull it the whole weekend because it really doesn't need any advertising anyway this weekend.

Nope, scheduled to in IMAX tomorrow morning. Kinda bummed right now after last night's events. Everything about it makes me less excited for the film. Possible copycats are an issue. The showing I'm going to is sold out already, so if some nutjob wanted to do something then he'd have a big crowd to do it. Plus the subject matter of the film is too close to home in this situation. From the marketing material, I know that Bane is every bit as much of a terrorist as the Joker was, maybe even moreso. Blows up a football field, blows up bridges, etc. To have a terrorist shooting at a TDKR screening just hours before seeing it myself is chilling and a huge bummer.

I believe it's pulled for the weekend.....which is the right thing to do.

It's downright depressing (especially after hearing about the survivors' accounts). I can't even enjoy talking about the movie.

My entire enthusiasm at the notion that Nolan 90% stuck the landing on this trilogy is completely and utterly gone. And yeah, I'm ****ing selfish about this particular aspect right now. But...

...that Jessica Redfield story is still hurting me right now.

My wife is adamant that we stick to the plan and see Rises in IMAX tomorrow and I'm good with that. But, I fear that my definitive take on the character has been tainted by this ****ing knucklehead.

I do know one thing; I'll make sure from here on out that I tell my boys how much I love them every single day for the rest of my days.

You might want to cancel then because Bane and the imagery Nolan associates with him is damn near apocalyptic in nature.

I mean, for real.

Don't let it effect your enjoyment of a fictional film. This could have happened anywhere ... Anytime. You'll shake the association just make take a few days.

Yeah, I'm going to talk to my sister tonight and see what she thinks. I do not have an IMAX theater near me. I'm having to fly to Houston so I can see the film in IMAX, but I have deep reservations about it right now. The crazy thing is my sister said a couple days ago that she always worries about how vulnerable people are in movie theaters for big movies like this. To have this event happen after she said that is just downright shocking.

Wow, this is a completely unexpected, epic meltdown... Hopefully everything will be okay in the long run.

It is shocking. And again, I'm being selfish about this but I feel for Nolan here. Two out of his last three films are marked by tragic circumstances beyond his control. And, that's got to affect him in some way, right?

This is just bad, bad, bad, bad all the way around. The victims lives are totally upside down today. A potential euphoric communal experience by Batman fans has forever tainted this opening.

I don't think people are that coward to stay away from cinemas just one lunatic decided to shoot people.

Maybe big media coverage might even boost the movie in box office.Who knows...

Theres no way you're being serious. It'll hit that next week with ease

Exactly.....as I said, a lot of overreaction, and it's understandable. I had family at both times this stuff went down at Virginia Tech, so I fully understand this - but the show must go on, we can't let a madman dictate when we should go to the movies, sporting events, take a plane, etc, etc....this is very tragic and I hate that the name Batman is associated with it, but like all wounds, they heal in time and we get better for it.

Unfortunately, society does pick up on the tragic - Heath Ledger, Brandon Lee, Sage Stallone, etc, etc. Awareness won't be a problem, but this time, it's REAL people, kids, and families, not a celebrity (even though he had family and a daughter too, it's just viewed differently).
