The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread V

where did u get the info that TDKR is off to a good start in Italy? Can u post the link?

The international number is a rough estimate because accurate figures from China won't come in until Tuesday morning. Warner Bros. estimates that The Dark Knight Rises took in $28.5 million from nearly 4,100 screens in China. In Italy, the action flick grabbed $8.8 million from 836 screens.

Interesting tidbit, it's also the first 2D film to reach that milestone since its predecessor.

TDKR and TDK will be the last 2D films to ever reach that mark.

It took 7 months for TDK to reached a billion. TDKR took just 7 weeks to get there. :yay:
And a winter re-release if I remember correctly? It's great that the movie is doing so well!

It wasn't re-released. It was re-expanded much like the Avengers was this weekend.

Domestic: $431,196,000
+ Foreign: $574,000,000
= Worldwide: $1,005,196,000 :shock

Sweet..! :applaud

Pfft. A bank can get twenty times that from the taxpayer, just by being rubbish.

WB ought to announce that its films are "too big to fail".

Do any other franchises have two movies with 1 billion?

I think now is a very good time to really rub it in the face of the idiots who used to claim that TDK was an enormous success only because Heath Ledger died and because the film was some sort of proverbial "perfect storm" and "lightning in a bottle". Heck, if I remember correctly, quite a lot of people in this place are about to receive a healthy serving of crow because the very idea of TDKR outgrossing TDK was generally deemed ludicrous and unrealistic. Well, as they say, there's a first time for everything. ;)

Pirates of the Caribbean.

Thank u. So The TDK trilogy is in exclusive company on both lists. 1 of 2 franchises with 2 movies in domestic top 10, and 1 of 2 with two billion dollar movies. And it did it with less movies than star wars and pirates. Beautiful.

It really is an outstanding achievement...

And to do it all without 3D.

Place your bets. Will The Hobbit make it 3?

They're cheating with 3D, so probably yes.

I have to admit I'm surprised that it out-grossed TDK. I thought it would be close, but I didn't think it was going to happen. And it wasn't just because of Ledger's death. At the time TDK seemed like lightning in a bottle that couldn't easily be replicated let alone bested.

You read my mind

Big congrats to TDKR for making the billion mark. Never thought I'd see the day where there would be two billion dollar grossing Batman movies, in the same series, too.

I think Hobbit will do great on boxoffice. (unless movie is a mess) Fantasy genre is money maker.LOTR,Harry Potter,Hunger Games, even Thor are so popular.. Series like Game Of Thrones and games like Warcraft etc.

They are also bringing back some of the old characters to sell the movie better.Of course, USA audience quite trendy but overseas are loyal. Even just overseas might make it close to 1 billion like Harry Potter finale.

I think it'll better than TDKR, maybe even better than Avengers if it gets really big numbers domestically.

871 million
926 million
1.11 billion

Without 3D.. 10 years ago. Peter Jackson is milking it with 3 movies.

At least we can finally stop the "Without the Joker/Ledger, this film will flop" "Batman alone is not marketable crap"

Pirates. But this is the first time two films from the one series have crossed the mark without 3D. Makes it more impressive.

I always thought this film would do about 20% less domestically, but 25-30% more in Foreign money than TDK. It's almost difficult for a big blockbuster to not break $500 M foreign; Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot with a relatively so-so reaction, is about to do it.

The foreign box office is just a much different place than it was when TDK came out 4 years ago.
