This is just my theory on how Batman managed to escape the blast radius (this has no doubt been said already):

After the closeup of Batman, we see the Bat flying away, then the last few seconds of the countdown... maybe between the closeup and the last two shots, there was a larger time span than what we saw? We might have seen a simple time lapse. After the closeup of Batman, Batman could have ejected out... that wouldn't have been visible to anybody anyways.

Not sure what the other theories are...

inb4 "He didn't escape the blast radius, he died and Alfred imagined seeing him at the end."

Given his location he had a very high chance of survival. 12 feet of water and a breathing apparatus, enough said.

Which, when you think about it....would look stupid on film. It's best that they didn't show this on film and we only see Bruce next in Italy.

Nah, it's just a glider. If the Tumbler can have a Batpod, I don't see why the Bat can't have an ejection device like this. However, I would change nothing to the ending.

I'm not saying having a glider in The Bat would be stupid, but seeing Batman being ejected and gliding through the air...imo, would look a bit silly.

It wouldn't be appropriate for the ending. But seeing that image after watching the movie brought a smile to my face.

"Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back."

It always cracks me up that both TDKR and TP have a scene of Bale and Caine nodding to each other towards the ending.

You know what? I flipping love Batman meeting Bane and saying, "No, I came back to stop you." People hated that but to me it's perfect.

Batman is saying, "I don't need theatricality, deception, or cover of darkness. You broke me, yet here I am out in the open, for everyone to see, Now I'm going to kick your ass."

You know what I just noticed today after watching it again, this is the only film in the trilogy that Batman doesn't actually glide.

Or use the grapnel gun. Or at least from the viewer's eye since he did grab that one hostage presumably with the grapnel gun.

Ya I just realized that as well, and as for the batarangs I'm not sure if I consider the little sharp bat shaped objects at the end batarangs or not.

Haha, true.

Closest thing to "gliding" is when Batman breaks his fall with his cape after Bane kicks him over the railing during their first fight.
