Ooops! I meant Phantasm!
Do you guys feel that TDKT has etched itself into the fabric of pop culture? Or do you think it will vanish from the public conscious?
For real. Go into that other thread and see a hundred people act like Affleck is already the greatest Batman/Bruce Wayne to ever exist...even though they've only seen still shots, and some other shots of Ben fighting as Batman or looking at things. There's practically zero speculation on whether his acting will be good or not. It's just a circle jerk on how good he looks. I can't disagree with them there, but it would be refreshing for someone to start a conversation about the possibility of Affleck sucking major ass in the role, despite a good look. Or him being "OK", nothing more, nothing less. Instead of nothing but high praise. But you can't bring that stuff into those threads for obvious reasons. This whole talk about Batfleck's facial acting is oddly refreshing. It's a change from people constantly fawning over his suit and how he looks in it.
So short version... you find people's delight over the new suit annoying, so you want to counter-balance that by over-reading a split second moment from the trailer as negatively as you can?
His angry look feels unnatural. Nobody's over-reading anything. It's just an opinion. Some people just don't think Affleck is a great actor. Get over it.
Btw, i think Affleck looks goofy in the suit. That's not the Batman i grew up seeing in comics, i can tell you that much.
I dont find their delight to be annoying. Like i said, im with them on that. I dig the new photos when they're released. But my annoyance has to do with the fact that you're not really allowed to express ANYTHING other than praise. Even though it's natural to speculate about both sides, when the movie is not even out. Im annoyed by people only talking about the visual side of Batman or even Bruce. There's no room for discussion about character development, acting. At least the main threads don't have this.So short version... you find people's delight over the new suit annoying, so you want to counter-balance that by over-reading a split second moment from the trailer as negatively as you can?
My statement that you are over-reading it is also an opinion. Why do I have to "get over" my opinion but you don't?
I never said Affleck was a "great actor." I'm saying you guys are inferring a lot from a split second scene. Honestly, its not that intense of a look that he's giving. Its basically a tight-lipped Affleck with his eyes open a bit wider than usual.
Okee dokee.

Call it "over-reading" all you want. It's what we all do when a movie is coming out.
There really isn't much difference from people fawning over a still of Batfleck, and people mocking him for a shot in a trailer.
One isn't acceptable to some people solely because the reaction isn't fawning.
Ben Affleck is not a great actor. That's my opinion.
There's a big difference between fawning over a Batsuit which we've seen in tremendous detail both in still shots and in action,
and mocking Affleck for "bad acting" on the basis of one small screengrab from a trailer without any real context. One is over-reading, and it isn't the fawning.
Who's stopping me? Over the summer, and before, i've tried getting in there. I've brought up things like this in the main thread and guess what? I've had mods delete my posts, i've had fans come down on me hard for just expressing myself on how i think Ben could screw this up as an actor or how he doesn't look that great in the trailers i've seen. Yet i always praise his look, unless it's a bad magazine photo where he looks out of place/fat.Whose stopping you? I see criticisms posted all the time over in the BvS boards, yes even of the Batsuit. Sure, people post their disagreement with those criticisms, but you've got to expect that sort of thing. Personally I think most of the criticisms of the Batsuit are really nitpicky.
There's enough of it in the trailer to speculate. If there's a half dozen or more shots of him + some speech...then it's enough to talk about before a movie hits theaters. If one can talk about a single photo from a magazine, for 30 pages, then there's room for a page or two on his acting. There's been tons of discussion about his character development.
I'm involved in those discussions all the time over there.
There hasn't been much discussion of his acting because we've seen so little of it thus far. I'm not sure there's much to talk about on that front.
That's you. I do see obvious overacting. Even Kevin Smith who loved the trailer and what he's seen from batman, commented on the ANGER FACE and how there's like 5 of those shots. All in different scenes.Analyzing every frame is different than over-reading every frame. There's only so much information you can milk out of it. I don't see any obvious overacting from Ben in the trailer. Obviously they aren't going to show the "subtle" acting in a trailer, because trailers aren't about subtlety.
Please. People were fawning over the thing even when all they got was one black and white image.
Why are you acting surprised by this? The same thing happened for every Nolan film too. Its par for the course on superherohype.
There were (and still are) plenty of critics of the suit too in the BvS boards.
Exactly. You can get the idea by looking at Affleck's résumé in general. He's definitely come a long way since the Gigli and Daredevil years but I still find him adequate at best. And that's only when good directors like Fincher or himself are behind cameras. Snyder usually delivers wooden performances in his movies so I don't expect much from BvS. Though I don't expect him to be bad either. Just nothing special in terms of acting from what we've known and seen so far.
And yeah, I think people praising him when they've basically seen only a glimpse of him in character are even worse than the ones who were trashing him like he was the worst choice ever with almost zero information.
Why are you acting surprised by this?

I haven't seen any criticisms of the actual suit. That suit is wonderful from where im standing.
Im not the only one in this thread noticing bad acting.
