"kotaku: If i’m playing a single player game, do i have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can i go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct."

i wonder what happens if you are literally in an area without internet.

1985?

And ironically the thing will still sell like hot cakes. The gaming nerds like us care more about it having to always be online than Joe Average Game Player does. And the kids won't give a **** at all.

People said the same about the PS3. After the two biggest selling consoles of all time. Times change. And early adopters of the system are people like us. And if we buy more of it, our friends and the GA are the types that get what we get mainly to play online with us. Asking many Xbox friends over the years why they don't go to PS3 was simply because all my friends are on Live. Now with a new generation that does not matter. (especially with no BC for both of them). What the early adopters (most of us) make really popular usually are what the GA will tend to go after at times as well. It worked well with the 360.

Early adopters and spreading the hype is actually extremely important.

Yes, people who will buy a XOne and not have access to the internet are an edge-case, but it's still a possibility.
"For single-player games that don’t require connectivity to Xbox Live, you should be able to play those without interruption should your Internet connection go down. Blu-ray movies and other downloaded entertainment should be accessible when your Internet connection may be interrupted. But the device is fundamentally designed to be expanded and extended by the Internet as many devices are today."

It'll depend on the developers. This writer is being a bit of a dick in the way he's focusing his articles.

At the very least, good on Microsoft for addressing this dirty laundry stuff now. Sony had a lot of vague answers after their announcement (they still haven't given a solid used games answer).

Maybe they were just waiting to see what Microsoft does. Now they can either come out and reveal they do the same nonsense, not garnering as much hate as they would have, had they announced it first. Or they put Microsoft down for the count and announce they won't have any such restrictions and allow used game sales.

then you cant use it to play games

There are people who don't have/can't afford internet.
honestly if you cant afford to have internet, then you shouldn't be buying a $400-500+ system. I can understand the internet argument from a geographical location standpoint but a person that prioritizes the latest new console over having basic internet service (if its available) leaves me scratching my head

Im guessing MS figures if you are a gamer that's into the gaming ecosystem then you at least have internet and Id tend to agree with that

Did they say if this has built in wifi or will it require a wired internet connection?

I don't know why anyone would even think that it would require a wired connection. That's like so 2005. Nearly every internet enabled device these days is Wi-Fi enabled. This is no different

What will you do when you are having issues with your internet provider, something is broken on their end, and it takes time to fix? Basically, if for whatever reason you can't access the internet in the next 24 hours, this happens.

I am in complete shock about Microsoft's approach on this whole used game thing.

I dont know how many times me and my friends played MvC3 at each others houses when we only had one copy....and your gonna tell me your gonna charge me FULL ******* PRICE (at least 3 times in my case) in order to do that on X1!!! Insane! :cmad:

The game activation is linked to your XBL account. I don't think they've said one way or the other if it's possible to play on another Xbox if you bring your account/profile over (like you probably would anyway in that case) and start the game through your logged on account.

Who knows at this point.

Those systems eventually go down in price. My Aunt has two PS3's and 360 and no Internet, I do understand internet is more common nowadays but you shouldn't need internet to play a video game. Just like you shouldn't need internet to watch a movie or listen to music...just IMO.

So the console does need to be connected online at least once a day and the fee for used games is full game price!?..WTF!?

PHEW! Ok at first it was said you did but then Larry Hryb clarified you wont.

"Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile."

You don't play games. My internet most definitely isn't stable all the time so this would affect me

While that is a bit better, you can't just let a buddy borrow the game for a few weeks. If I pay $60 for a game, why can't I do with it what I please?

bc you don't own the game. You only buy a license to use it. How that use is determined is by MS and the publisher.

So basically it's in the vein of purchasing licensing for things like Office, Exchange, etc.

Agreed 100% with you. Im so excited for this but at the same time as more and more information comes out, I just dont know what to make of it. Its information overload!

Which is a problem to me because it's one of the advantages of console gaming over PC gaming.

The online once a day is nonsense. Steam only makes you install an update once a month.

Using the disk tray/slot as a guide, I whipped up a quick and dirty comparison pic to get a better sense of how big the X1* is.

*Is anyone else having trouble saying/typing that without thinking of Peewee's bike?
