For $2,000 I'll get another gaming pc instead. :woot:

I think you've convinced me to get one S. I am too lazy usually to benefit from selling/trading things in when they still have value but I reckon my X1 is still worth something towards the cost.

hah!!

I do what I can to support the system I don't own. :o :oldrazz:

Has it been said when the BC framerate issues will be fixed?

Some good screen comparisons for HDR gaming Vs SDR.

Edit: forgot to add the link

isn't this the article I posted a few weeks ago?

this article is confusing and the headline is misleading. That's not your fault, Iceman.......lol.

Until I read this article, I was under the impression that only certain upcoming X1 games ( like Forza Horizon 3 and GOW 4 ) supported HDR.

based on this article, it gives you the impression that prior games, such as Rise of Tomb Raider, will get a boost from HDR running on the S.

but wait!! It also shows Uncharted 4, which is running on a non-HDR PS4! That has nothing to do with the new S.

so, what does that mean?? Does that mean an HDR tv will "upconvert" all content to HDR, regardless of the console? If that's the case, then that makes you ask - why would I need an S ( or NEO ) for HDR? I could just use an HDR tv.

see how confusing that is?

Yes, I'm totally confused now as well! :woot:

I went into the shops today to check prices and X1 trade in prices. Getting closer lol although the HDR gaming thing definitely needs to be clarified.

^ Iceman, you have an HDR 4K tv, right?

couldn't you check with your regular X1 by playing a game with the TV's HDR turned on and then with it turned off?

can you see a difference like that article points out?

Yes.

The regular X1 wouldn't have HDR either way would it?

Yes.

The regular X1 wouldn't have HDR either way would it?

the regular wouldn't have HDR.

but if the tv has HDR, then maybe it can "upconvert" a game playing on the regular X1 if you play the game with HDR turned on or enabled or whatever.

if it can't, then you know the article is totally full of ****. :woot:

Is beginning to sound a bit like bollocks!

This article is a couple of months older but might make more sense coming from a gaming site:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-4k-hdr-what-does-it-mean-for-gamers

yeah.

that 2nd article is much more informative and you can tell the author knows what he's talking about.

it also makes it clear that the author of that 1st article doesn't know what he's talking about, his article is full of it, and the whole thing is misleading for the sake of click bait.

this other article also makes that point.

notice this section:

So if I have an HDR TV, everything I watch will be in HDR?

If only it were that simple. Content has to be mastered for HDR in order to work with the standard. In other words, both the source, and the TV have to be HDR compatible. Luckily, with the advent of Ultra HD Blu-ray and advancements in online streaming from Netflix and Amazon, content creators will be able to deliver HDR content more easily.

The content has to be HDR enabled. An HDR tv doesn't automatically "upconvert" everything you see to HDR.

so that means, the use of Rise of Tomb Raider and Uncharted 4 in the 1st article is a blatant lie. Neither game is HDR enabled ( and one isn't even on the Xbox ). So that means running either on an HDR tv should have no effect. certainly not the dramatic effect the article puts forth as evidence.

I want to know where that Uncharted comparison even cones from.

^ yeah. that's the most headscratching one.

but maybe the author is a time traveler, who peeked into the future and saw the HDR remastered version of Uncharted 4 released for the Neo.

:o

With all the social media and streaming apps/content on the X1, I'm surprised there isn't an app for something like Periscope. I wouldn't mind one

Oh right, now I need to see.
