The thing I don't get is, RT still shows the average rating is 7/10. How is that possible given the percentage?

Begins doesn't get enough love and respect. Without Begins we'd probably not have gotten TDK. But then again, without B&R we'd probably not have gotten Begins.. :oldrazz:

Yup. B&R is one of the most important comic book movies ever made, believe it or not.

Looks like we have another Hobbit on our hands, low with critics but high with audiences and fans.

EDIT: I do find it quite ironic that it's likely to get a lower score than SR. (the way Jackson's Hobbit got lower than the 1977 animated version)
I don't find it ironic at all Superman Returns had a great story (IMO) and although it left the comic book fan base split for the most part the GA liked it and the critics liked it. The problem with Superman Returns was if you put more action in it and if it didn't go up against POTC or released it in the fall it might have done better. Man of Steel I am sure will be great movie and I am looking forward to it regardless of the reviews my only point is SR was not as bad as some like to make it out to be. It was just different and show progression and a flawed Superman IMO.

Because in the rotten reviews, the movie still got a decent enough rating. The "rotten reviewers" mostly defined it as mediocre and disappointing, and not completely bad.

Yes, I might also say that it's the best written movie in the trilogy, on top of it's importance.

Your point about B&R is both funny and true.

My favorite line from any review...

"
There are moments where Man Of Steel feels too earnest, too in thrall to the gravity of its own mythology. And then Superman punches Zod through a city block and all is forgiven. " - Nick Setchfield

That's exactly how I operate watching movies about these characters I love. Even if it has some flaws, once the awesome happens...I'm just zoned out and enjoying the ride.

One more day... Thursday/Friday Midnight showing... Bring on the epicness of this movie.

This sucka better be good. I not only bought the walmart 7 pm showing tickets for tomorrow nite, but also tickets for the midnite showing...:D
I have faith that its gonna blow me away.

Damn... you are doing what I'm doing... Imax 3D for midnight showing... :woot:

If the action is as good as all the review have being saying... I will not be disappointed. That's all i wanted... if I want a drama Superman I'll watch Return... :P

man this is the slowest week ever! i cannot wait until friday

67% on RT? Hmmm. Didn't expect anything that low.

I'm seeing it tonight at 7. I'll weigh in tonight afterwards on whether I think the critics are smoking the crack cocaine or if the fans have seen it are being willfully blind / riding the high.

I'm usually a good evaluator between the two.

Here is what was said from a causal fan on a rock-band website in a Man of Steel thread:

I for one, never go by what a critic says. In fact, if they shun it, 90% of the time it's a great movie. From the previews this "S" looks like it kick's ass and takes names!

It's just going to be a case where it's low with critics, high with fans/audience and in the end, that's what we needed.

Seems like most fan sites, comic book centric sites love it. I find their opinions more trustworthy than critics who are prolly still loving those old films and are stuck in the past. The only common complaint is that hes too serious, which im fine with. This is a movie about self discovery, im guessin it ends with him accepting his role, he can lighten up in the sequels and expand on the lois/clark relationship at the daily planet

So he didn't actually say anything at all?

Not counting critics, has there been one negative fan review yet?

Out of curiosity. What is the main complaint from all the critics? Do they all agree on the same thing?

No, which is part of what's confusing about this particular surge of reviews. They seem to disagree wildly on how well certain aspects of the movie work. I'd say the main complaint seems to be that the movie is heavy on action and lighter on character development. Again, some reviewers disagree with that assessment though.

The most common complaint is that the movie takes itself too seriously than it can actually afford, as the most interesting and compelling ideas don't pay off, and in the end are wasted in a generic summer blockbuster scenario. The story could've been better developed and the pacing is off sometimes. That's a common line that goes through several negative reviews.

I have to be honest... I never expected this somewhat middling critical reaction.

67% on RT. 58/100 on Meta Critic. :csad:

I will admit, I always had my reservations about Goyer and Snyder, but I was still hoping this was going to be Superman's Batman Begins.

I know it's still early days, but sometimes when this kind of stigma dust settles it can be hard to shake it off.

metacritic is a horrible source to use for reviews, IM3 is like 60 i think yet 78% on RT.

Like I said to someone yesterday, MetaCritic is based on less than half of the reviews of RT at this point.

When it comes down to it, what's more important: Box office, fan exception or critical rating?

So he didn't actually say anything at all?

Just saying that the casuals can give a **** less about critical reactions to the movie, that's all haha. The people I've come in contact with are still uber- excited.
