But you didn't think about it in the theater and thus it doesn't count.

No... I was too busy being distracted by the thought "Hmmmm... what an unnecessary way to make Superman weak against evenly matched opponents. So THIS is how WB dodged using kryptonite in this movie in case they lost that lawsuit."

Which is still bad.

Well, I don't want a march (I'm very happy with the music Hans wrote), but I'm sad to hear it gets drowned out and chopped up.

Maybe I misspoke. I didn't want a march in the film, but because Zimmer's score was drowned out and felt misused at the end I wished it had something equivalent to a triumphant march that left the film on peeking. As it stands it just petered out for me musically.

Its one thing when the critics puts this film down. Its another when the fans do.

I am dissapointed in the returns.

Just said she was disappointed...highly so I'm pretty sure the answer to that is going to be in the very, very lackluster range. This thread is on a roll. The bashing is humongous. Can't wait to see more of it, lol...
im still seeing it tomorrow, even if she doesnt like it

WAY LESS.

In my spoiler review I posted this: (non spoilers)

"It's no secret that my favorite Superhero movie of all time is Batman Begins. Yes, even over the almighty Dark Knight.

That being said, I went into Man of Steel expecting it to be the Begins version of Superman.

WRONG-O.

That was my first mistake.

To be honest - in the end it felt more like the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern of Superman - without the comedy or whimsicalness of that flick.

And that's not a perk of Green Lantern or a requirement of Superman, more or less something that distinguishes the two films."

well, i happened to like Green Lantern a lot, and i didnt mind at all how GL approached the seriousness part of the film (in fact, i thought that movie had a bit too much humor to it- i was hoping for a more serious film, but i like what we got), so with that analogy, i'm probably still going to like the film :)

Comparing to Green Lantern?...Green Lantern was Jonah Hex bad and was 26% RT rating.

I know this isnt a Batman Begins type origins and I really wouldnt want it to be

How many fans do you think have put Man of Steel down? I've seen lots and lots of positive reactions.

The has little to do with the actual quality of the film. I agree than Hans Zimmer score is great probably some his best work but it is naive to think that it is going to save the film.
I have no illusions about it "saving" the film (don't even know if the film needs saving yet), but I disagree that music is so inconsequential to the quality of a film. Just like editing, sound design, etc., music can elevate a scene from "good" to "great." Just look at the shower scene in Psycho. I saw John Williams in concert recently, and he played a version of the opening chase from Last Crusade without music, and man, what a difference music can make.

Yeah you might dig the movie then. Idk - the structure was very Nolan-ish without him filling in the blanks. Goyer basically took a Nolan Beat Sheet (aka a treatment) and then padded it like a mad-lib.

*** ATTENTION WORRIED MAN OF STEEL FAN ***

**** READ THIS NOW ****

You, yea you. The one who thinks Man Of Steel isn't gonna be as good as he thought it was because a bunch of critics online gave it a bad score. Trust me, this movie is going to be everything you thought it was going to be.

Did ANYONE even consider the possibility that a lot of these critics didn't like the film cause the themes went over their head? That there weren't enough things happening while the character was going through a great spiritual exploration? That the exploration was so deep and so central to the character that it took precedence over everything else? That the loneliness and sadness that Clark felt was portrayed so real to life that it depressed them and took the joy from their mood? That the characterization felt rushed because the symbolism whizzed over their head? And yet imagery so beautiful, so elegant, so powerful, and yet so real that they were completely mesmerized by it and couldn't even bring themselves to criticize it?

I don't know about you, but the fact that a film can draw that reaction out of someone says to me that this film is going to be ART. I'm glad Zach Snyder didn't make a movie that tried to please everyone. This isn't a dumb popcorn flick. This is a real film with a real story that's going to evoke some real feelings. You're right Mr. Critic, this isn't the movie you were expecting. Maybe you weren't ready for it. Maybe you should go watch Iron Man 3. It's easier to follow.

You are all going to love this movie to death and you will be thanking Zach Snyder and the whole team taking the Superman mythos to such heights that not everyone in the audience had the eyes for it.

**** Everyone look at Batman Begins under top critics right now: ****

63%

What is Man of Steel currently at -- 63% (it raised from 53% since yesterday, it's increasing or staying around the same - the same as 'Batman Begins.')

I'm kind of laughing over being worried now since it's being received the same. All this worrying is really for nothing. It's the same rating as BB!

Sorry to hear that. There's so much potential for great cinematic moments in that score.

While it is true that a good soundtrack can add a little something to the film and add to the overall experience, but if the movie is bad then no amount of a good music can save it. What makes a movie a good is when everything works together like a symphony not a cacophony. This is a exactly why I don't praise the Donner films.

Classical scores are very important to some people and I'm one of them. They help tell as much a story as the cinematography. It can save a film, and hinder it. I don't felt it did either here as it may as well have been nonexistent.

NOTHING is Jonah Hex bad. GL had it's moments. Especially in the directors cut.

This movie does have great moments, as few and far between. I did break down and cry during a pinnacle moment with Clark and Jonathan Kent.

But the slow build takes a hard right angle into actionville and never recovers. Once the action takes the wheel - it looks at emotional connectivity in the rear view.

At we have something to cheer about. Then again critics thought DKR was good.

Absolutely dude! I'm counting down the hours myself. I'm just ready for the next step. Watching so many reviews come and go and contradictions that outweigh the positive to negative reviews, I'm eager to talk about the film amongst ourselves besides seeing people in the dark asking others who didn't like it all kinds of different questions that makes its way from page to page, setting reply after reply up for a bash-fest. Can't wait to chime in and have at it.

And again, I never said music could save a film. But it IS one of those important elements that contribute to the overall quality of the film. Not a one of those elements can save a film if everything else is lacking.

Nonetheless, I can't wait to the judge the film for myself soon. See if the critics were right.

Poni, were you as disappointed in Zod as I was? The buzz from the past couple months gave off the impression that Shannon was going to give us one of the best cbm villain roles since the Joker. But I was really underwhelmed and thought his performance was over-the-top. Faora made a much better villain IMO, she was great.
