"Man of Steel is epic, action-packed, stunningly executed, and its cinematography beautifully displayed. There is a breathtaking pace to the stunts, with Kal-El using and showing more of his powers than ever before. Even the Kryptonian wardrobe is spectacular. The best summation of the film comes when Kal-El has to let go of his past in order to protect his future in a memorable heart-wrenching scene. It’s filmmaking with heart, and this is the best blockbuster of the year, with probably the best director-writer combination."

I would take this guys review to heart more than some critic who is stuck in 1978 and cant see the forest for the trees.

Man, this thread reminds me of all the CMB review threads to films that didn't get raves from critics (Green Lantern, SM3, FF, etc).

We all want the film to be so great that we pick apart all the reviews and look for any reason why they're "wrong". It's always the same with each of those films before release. Then the film gets released...

This film could very well still be a crowd pleaser. But history has shown...

'Man of Steel' the Superman movie you've been waiting for

That the title of a recent review- just more positive feedback from people with a brain and this person probably isnt paid big bucks to give their thoughts. Just an honest review

We would all have more faith in the film if it didn't get such a harsh reaction from critics and people on this very forum. Many of us wanted this film to do well but at the point, our faith is pretty much lost.

Don't go there, please. Don't call people who don't like something you expect to like stupid.

There are fans that want a film to be good so much that they lower their standards so that the film can meet it, resulting in rave reviews of less than stellar work. But at the same time, the critics are all saying the same things. It's like they have the same wavelength..or the movie shares obvious flaws :(

Confirmation bias. You really think critics are dishonest? Really?

The sequel is already announced, it won't be too long for probably some kind of teammup duo whether it be Justice League or Worlds Finest thereafter and this movie is probably going to do pretty big numbers at the box-office regardless of if Joe-Schmo prefers Superman to throw large plastic decals at his enemies and save kittens from trees for 2 hours.

I'm still going in with high expectations, though, aware that it's a flawed movie. If you can allow yourself to come down just a tad bit, it still might reach expectations. It's good to know that the visuals are spectacular and the action sequences are jaw-dropping. To know it can get better for a sequel is always a good thing.

Most people are speaking as if it's a failure. It's clearly not going to be. Just won't live up to the critic expectations and some fans-alike. Most reviews considered negative still have a flow of positivity intertwining with one another so some negatives aren't all that bad. Just good, not great.

Allow that to sink in but don't lower your expectations until you see for yourself.

Yea, but a Green Lantern sequel was announced aswell, I remember WB stating it was going forward no matter what... And look where were at with that?

But MOS is no Green Lantern, it's getting so many mixed reviews my head is spinning! From "The best superhero movie ever" too "Its flaws out-weigh it's positives".

Tomorrow night at this time I will know, but once my butt sits in that chair in the theater, everything I ever read about MOS will dissappear, I will be at the mercy of this film, and my opinion will follow once the cridits roll.

I'm not to much of a thinker after a film, I know from the second it ends if I was entertained enough to be happy walking out the theater.

Thoughts on MOS tomorrow night, I cannot wait! :)

Patton Oswalt is down with MOS and now John Byrne is down too? I am 95% sure now I am gonna be down too.

I didnt call anyone stupid so your comment is flawed from the get go. I said with a brain. I have read the comments and some critics have reason but most are stuck in the past or refuse to look deep into the movie to find what most people are saying is good about it. There was even an article saying the people giving it negative reviews and how they are wrong about what they are criticizing

Are you referring to me? I just stay in the realm of reality, guys.

No Superman81's crazy crackpot posts. You can't completely dismiss reviews and cherry pick the ones that have a title that fits what you want.

That's the same thing...

I've had a Superman marathon of sorts, in the past several months, to prepare for the new release. This consisted of watching Superman the movie, Superman 2, Superman Returns, and Smallville (my personal gateway drug) seasons. I also acquired every issue digitally of Superman and Action comics from issue 1 (about 60% finished).

I hate that Man of Steel isn't appearing to be the movie that the character deserves. I think a good preparation method to better boost the appeal of Man of Steel would be a viewing of Superman 1 and 2. I find it hard to believe that MOS cannot trump these two seriously dated entries. Lex Luthor was just a joke in both, as they turned him into a comedic role that jeopardized any intelligence (not knowing which direction was north in the hot air balloon scene, for example). Smallville's Luthor gave the character far more respect and depth. Other parts of S2 were embarrassing, such as the daily planet crew looking out at a unconvincing painted skyline backdrop during the zod vs cars scene. Additionally, Clark's fake dork routine was so over the top that it was cartoonish.

Taking those criticisms into account, how can any negative reviewers lower MOS below those pretty childish portrayals? Did you really find Zod a lesser character to the goofball Hackman Luthor? MOS Clark's quest of self introspection vs magnifying lens sized eyeglassed exploits of Reeve's Clark? The new Lois vs jump out of a window Kidder? As much as I respect Reeve and the original impact of his movies, I feel that whatever experience tonight has planned for me has to be more compelling/believable than those films.

I'm still really looking forward to this.

Me too. There are films with low rt scores that I love and films with high rt scores that I don't like. Reviews mean nothing to my enjoyment/anticipation of a film. Still can't wait for only god forgives too :yay:

i think its about time to call it quits on these forums. Too much negativity. Too many people getting hyped up over what critics say or othe rs that have seen the film. Its like all the positive reviews are beings thrown out the window and ignored. All the twitter and social media feedback saying it's great doesnt seem good enough. Everyone is all about rt, which like i said earlier that mos would have a better rating if the people who said it was 3/5 and b- had ranked it positive. Blame rt for not having an in between

true.

Pst, you called people who like it people with a brain, so the ones who don't like it are implied by you to be without a brain, ergo stupid. I won't argue lots about this, but the past few months I've been trigger-happy with the report button. Tread carefully. Don't call names, directly or indirectly.
