I don't know, seeing Superman fly and punching Zod in the trailer looks pretty damn fun to me. :woot:

What Humor exists in any of Nolan's Batman's? I keep reading where is the fun? Fun??? TDK is about an insane clown blowing up gotham and turning the DA into a scarred lunatic so all of Gotham will lose hope and self destruct.. Why is Superman not allowed to have a serious movie exactly?

You'd have to ask the critics. A common complaint was no humor.

I loved it. More complex than the Reeve flicks.

It does but at the same time it looks like it happens so damn fast that it looses the ability to really sink in. It's like Snyder, master or all things SLOW MOTION, went the other way with this film to prove he didn't need that crutch. But our eyes can only process stuff so fast and slow motion in and of itself isn't a bad thing. It's just all in how it's used.

I really liked the Zod vs Foara clip. If a significant amount of the movie was like that I wouldn't be offended.

Again, I think that this sort of reaction towards criticism is misinterpreting the overall message.

If there's such a thing as being too humorous or nonchalant, then by definition there has to be such a thing as too serious and somber.

It's all a matter of perspective, because if the movie doesn't present it in a believable manner, it simply won't work...as with anything else. This is my main concern with this popular mentality clamoring for all CBMs to be extremely serious and grave in nature. Seriousness in and of itself /= quality, in any way, shape, or form.

Personally, I think an excessively serious tone actually diminishes and thereby cheapens certain scenes that really call for it; it makes it tougher to both accept and appreciate.

That's my take on the matter, anyway. A lot of what the critics have been saying has made good sense in my eyes. In all honesty, if this movie ends up being a flop in the eyes of the community, then that no doubt sucks in terms of those hoping for a good Superman film(all of us); however, it should stand as a rather hard lesson for us to not automatically expect quality from a certain tone or concept in a film.

In the arts more so than anything else, there is no such thing as a sure thing, regardless of how promising the cast, crew, and premise may be.

I've noticed something weird lately. New posters joining up (which is great) but they're saying they loved it or liked it? Maybe this is just a coincidence after all...

I didn't like this line "Reeve — whose portrayal looks better and better with time — managed to be charming even when things got serious."

I like Reeve, and he's probably the best, but that element actually feels off to me. Superman now should be concerned about who gets hurt, and not saying wisecracks as he saves the day. He should be more smiley when he's USED to being Superman, and not when he's just learning the ropes.

Wow. Chris Reeve is the end all and be all of Superman.

Lets forget about the Superman in the comics is the last 20 years who werent like Reeve.

The more negatives I hear, the more it gets me excited because it is going away from Donner and Superman returns.

Not sure how no humor = more complex. They aren't antithetical.

I don't follow every major release, but I think it happens with every cycle.

I personly like the film. I really dont care what critics think. I never seen supes kick as much ass in any movie or show.

Even my wife liked it. So much that shes willing to sit through it again tonight.

The movie has its flaws but so far it seems like the common audience love it.

Alright guys, my girlfriend's cousin just got back from the theatre and she can't stop raving about it. Like, she cannot stop.

Here's what she's been saying:

The film is apparently divided into "sections" of action and story development. It goes sort of like this:

First Development ~20 minutes
First Action ~10 minutes
Second Development ~1 hour
Second Action ~1 hour

And she seems to think that the fact that the movie ended off with such a large amount of straight up action is souring views of the story development throughout the movie.

Random things she keeps talking about:

-There is a time in the last scene where it feels like humanity cannot win.
-There is a scene in the climax of the movie that made the entire audience cheer.
-The soundtrack complements the film perfectly.
-Several times in the Second Development she felt the same kind of pity for Clark that she felt watching Superman 1978 (where he's basically treated like trash despite being such a good person).
-Jor El is a complete bada$$.
-General Zod is very well written, to the point where you feel sorry for him
-Antje is stellar

Overall, she ranks the film at number 4 on her top five superhero movies of all time list, below Superman 1978, The Dark Knight, and Batman Begins respectively.

:lmao:

Might I ask what the caption in your avvy is in reference to? I could picture that fellow barking that at a young child.

Steel cut oats are my preference, btw :woo

Oh I just happened to be OD'ing on youtube diabeetus parodys when I found it and so I just made it my avvy. I'm not all that old, just 38 and I don't eat oatmeal.

Nice coat!

I gotta get me one of those!

Just some nut.

Anyone who dresses up as a Bat clearly has issues.

-Oh, you mean TDK.

Not my diagnosis.
I'm not wearing hockey pads.

The blackmail scene.

And yet not a single one of those made me laugh.

Cheap laughs are not always the point.

I think STID had several great moments that were effectively tempered by wit and levity. I don't personally think the TDK trilogy excelled in this area myself, but at least they gave it a shot.

Not sure how no humor = more complex. They aren't antithetical.

They're separate thoughts. That's why I started a new paragraph. The film is more complex, but not due to lack of humor (and there is humor, just not every moment).

I wouldn't say it's better than I or II. I wouldn't say it's worse either. It is different. And Superman is far more complex because he is growing. He doesn't just show up as a fully developed Superman.

I understand a few critic complaints, but I think it has more to do with their own construct of Superman that they bring in.

Goyer must have gotten the memo that most didn't appreciate his attempt at "humor" in the TDK trilogy so he didn't even bother with this one. Can't say I blame him.

Begins had the best humor of all the Nolan Batman films.

Actually sir, I was thinking of myself.

You plan on gassing yourself again, Mr. Wayne?

And you can borrow the Rolls if you like. Just bring it back with a full tank.
