The Dark Knight Rises Why Batman WON'T Die in The Dark Knight Rises

No, no, no, the next Gotham Knight is going to be that actor who also played Cobra Commander! :cwink:

And now, a clip from the upcoming 2016 film, The Dark Knight Rises 2: Rise of the Dark Knight.

Thug: WHAT ARE YOU?

Batman: It's me! REX!

Eh, batman can die in this movie, would be perefctly fine with me, sad and epic

I'm not ruling out a fourth Batman film but obviously you have to take Bale's comments with a grain of salt. It's a typical response to the type of question he was asked. Interviewers would ask actors in Scream 4 if they would be coming back and were given the same answer (even though their character didn't make it).

Nolan has pretty much ruled out a fourth Batman movie.

I don't think Bats will bite the dust in 'Rises'... But it could happen, YES.

Riddle me this.

Let's say TDKR manages to outgross The Avengers and lands a few Oscar noms. Chris Nolan calls up the WB suits and says, "Ya know what guys, I think I'm not quite done with Batman yet, after all." How many seconds would it take for Warner Brothers to fire the exec who tells him, "No, thanks" and explains that they are moving in a different direction?

I don't think Nolan will do that, to be quite honest... :D

Naahh. When you discuss hypotheticals and don't want to give things away, you aren't gonna mention things like that. Were it or were it not the case, Bale would know better that to go like "Well maybe it would be impossible to happen" if Batman IV was brought up by the press, you know how Team Nolan works they're careful about inadvertantly giving away story details.

Besides, if he did die fans would doubtlessly make up theories that it was faked or he's alive and well, there's always a way to write yourself out of these things which could easily be exploited by the studio. That won't happen anyway due to the reboot announcement, but what I'm saying is it's not like speaking about a hypothetical Batman IV which we know isn't happening anyway is gonna rule out a story possibility, anymore than them closing the lid on things means he has to die. It can go either way and we need to stop pretending we know something based on things like this that can be interpreted anyway... this time last year people were dismissing a Neeson cameo or Ra's Al Ghul presence due to how coy and misleading he was in interviews.
Hm. Good point.

Whether or not Batman dies will probably depend primarily on whether these storytellers want Wayne's story to be a tragedy, or if they want him to find peace/happiness.

I think that what it proposes, accentuated by the concept of one last battle, is he'll either 'die in the ring', or leave it all behind once and for all while he still has some health and years left to build a happy life. No in-betweens. I know people hate the overused term...but this is a very 'realistic' outlook on this, one that shows genuine concern for the well-being of someone we would care about. And it's not a knock on Batman or the idea of being a hero forever, etc. It wants Wayne to achieve something, give people an example of hope and righteousness that they'll carry with them long after he's gone.

But the story also feels that he can't just leave like he did in TDK...a fugitive, the scapegoat for Dent's murders, etc. Yeah, the city needed it it, but he's not going to go out a criminal in anyone's mind. So the end will come one way or another. And although a death of Batman could make for a poignant drama, bittersweet and all that....I see these storytellers as wanting Wayne to live, and to end Batman, and have at least some time and health to be happy. I think these storytellers have shown a genuine compassion for Wayne, and admiration...too much so to let him die in the ring if they can help it. Wouldn't any of us feel that way about anyone we cared about, even if we understood their fight?

Hey, you never know! After all, Michael Bay said he was "done" with Transformers after the second one! And after the third one! And he'll say it again after parts 5-17! :hehe:

Bale might have just accidentally confirmed he doesn't die...

"My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it’s appropriate, I think it’s going out at the right time. But…if Chris came to me with a script and said, ‘You know what? There is another story’ then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work." - EMPIRE

Even if Batman dies at the end Bale could still do another... it just wouldn't take place after "Dark Knight Rises". You got a year gap between BB and DK, plus 8 years between DK and DKR...

And a 42-yr-old Bale....a Caine nearing his late-80's (if he's hopefully still around)...

If WB somehow manages to convince Nolan to direct or produce another Batman, and if he only produces, they also convince Bale to play Batman again, seeing a Batman Beyond movie with them involved would be incredible.

Imagine 10 - 15 years from now, Bale returns as an older Bruce Wayne for Batman Beyond. If only...

I'll say this much. IF Bale is fully aware that his Bruce/Batman does indeed die in 'Rises', and those statements he gave about a possible 4'th batman is all just him, doing what he does best - Acting it out! Well, than it's a smart subtle way of throwing Us all off track, so We firmly are let to believe that there's no chance in hell that he'll die. This could all be one gigantic, perfectly planned fake-out, secretly orchestrated by him and Nolan... Yes - it could.

Again, I think it was purely hypothetical, irregardless of TDKR's plot,...and more about how much he enjoys working with Nolan...so much so that he'd actually be interested in doing a fourth if the opportunity were somehow hypothetically taken, despite doing the de-rigeur three already which would be more than enough for most people.

I don't think he really gives a hoot about tagging along fanboys or what not.

Batman retires for good, and Wayne finally begins to live.

They talked a lot in the Empire article about Bruce finding peace .
I really think in the end Batman might be presumed dead and the movie will end with the wedding of Bruce and Selina or some other indication that he moved on and found happiness .

I'm not a fan of the idea of having Nolan and/or Bale return one day for a Batman Beyond/The Dark Knight Returns kind of thing...

This trilogy was Nolan and Bale taking on the character. TDKR is the ending to this story. They want to leave it on a high note. I know it's hard to believe for some people, but that's it. Some say that WB will never let Nolan leave Batman, or "kill off" his franchise and so on... Clearly Nolan was given a lot of freedom by WB, they trust him a lot, and he has a lot of credibility. He is a rare sort of filmmaker who's independent enough to make certain decisions. He's not the kind of guy who'd stretch this rubber band for as long as it makes money.

I want to see both Nolan and Bale move on to other projects. As I want to see someone else's take on Batman. This was Nolan/Bale's time and it's almost over. I appreciate what they have given us.

No way. If he's going to find love and companionship as Bruce Wayne, it'll probably have to be later down the road with someone completely not involved with his Batman days. Certainly not Kyle. He's probably got to get to know himself again first, then a relationship somewhere down the road.

Well, I did end my post with the thought that it could be something else that indicated he was happy.
I still believe it will be an optimistic ending with Bruce Waynes Batman days behind him.

I just don't think Kyle is the lady that Bruce Wayne would or should settle with. With Batman, as a constant game and walk on the wild side sure....but if there's no Batman, then little need for Kyle.

Besides, I think she's dying in this one.
