Wonder Woman Box Office Speculation Thread - Part 6

Are we not supposed to calculate from the 4-day weekend?? I thought the Monday is included for the last weekend. Hmmmm.

In any case, the better drop is the official one. Thanks for the correction.
The weekend drop is always the drop from the last 3-day weekend, even after a holiday weekend.

Also, hoping Florida is back in business next weekend for good holds next week. Hurricane Irma slowed down the box office a bit this weekend:
The state of Florida alone accounts for 6.3% of the nation’s box office receipts and due to Hurricane Irma, it only accounted for 1.88%. As we reported, AMC, Cinemark, Regal and other theaters started closing down in preparation — 100 locations were shuttered on Friday and up to 175 were dark on Saturday.

Well, I knew wrong then. I thought Fall season started with the 4 day LD weekend and drops are calculated with that in mind.

Plus the NFL games too. We should have some nice drops during the weekdays (Discount Tuesday should be big next week) which will follow through to the next weekend what with this weekend being deflated as hell.

Domestic: $410,503,142
+ Foreign: $405,800,000
= Worldwide: $816,303,142

I'd be fine even with a bit of fudging to get to the 4x multiplier ($413m overall domestic gross). It would be silly to miss out on such a historic box office milestone when we're so close to it.

Wonder Woman lost 800+ theaters this week because it's already out on digital HD, same reason it gained 1400+ theaters a couple weeks ago for one final push at the box office.

The 3-month home video window was a little surprising considering the movie's a huge hit with with amazing legs, but with Dunkirk hogging all the IMAX screens, Stephen King's It coming out this week - and Wonder Woman on the big screen again in Justice League mid-November - it makes sense perfectly.

Seriously, $410M was the only record worth breaking - it's nice to be the top 5 superhero movie of all time at least for a little while, but nobody cares about multipliers or whatever unless you're a blogger or something. :)

Like I said a couple? weeks ago, Spider-man: Homecoming beat Wonder Woman at the global box office. Spider-man is a very well-known brand in China and Japan and SHC being the nth reboot/sequel should do much better than Wonder Woman overseas.

Fast 8 (Fate of the Furious) and Despicable Me 3 broke records in China. Wonder Woman is her first solo film and it takes a sequel (or three!) to cultivate brand loyalty. Her time will come! :ilv:

WB Japan announced WW has passed 1billion yen in Japan.

Diana had a great run, I'm guesstimating its final overall box office would be around $830 million. See ya'll in the sequel.

Wonder Woman (WB), $721K w/e (Japan), int’l cume: $405.9M; global cume: $816.4M

Last weekend it was at $403.7M OS. Assuming 100% of the added $2.2M is from Japan gives $9.6M from Japan after the weekend, and the weekend was about $721k, which is a 52.1% drop from last weekend.

It is falling behind BvS pace, was very close over the last 2 weeks:
First 3 days: 76.3% of BvS's first 3 days.
Days 4-10: 76.5% of BvS's.
Days 11-17: 66.6% of BvS's.
This weekend was only 53.3% of BvS's 3rd weekend.

BvS's 3rd weekend multiplier would give a $11.5M total from Japan.
To get to $13M it would need to make just as much as BvS did after its 3rd weekend, which could be very hard after a third weekend that was almost twice as small.

There are some holidays coming up next week(Sept 18-23) so maybe that can help out the legs a bit. Doesn't look like it will go too far from the standard 3.5x the 3-day opening at this point though.

Looks like Corpse is also not overly optimistic anymore about the Japan numbers.
Was kind of hoping he knew something that I missed when he said it was "aiming for a total around ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million)" last week, but I guess not :/

Weekend Actuals (09/09-10)

05 (02) ¥78,646,900 ($719,000), -52%, ¥1,040,447,500 ($9.6 million), Wonder Woman (Warner Bros.) WK3

Wonder Woman hasn't been able to find an audience outside of the usual superhero crowd, and is now experiencing the poor legs nearly all of them receive. It's unlikely to reach ¥1.5 billion now, and will have to settle for ~¥1.3 billion ($11/12 million).

I guess WB's marketing failed to get people who are not interested in Superheroes on board, coupled with the fact that Japan is not that interested in movies set in World War 1 and 2 period. That makes me wonder, how much Captain America: The First Avenger earned there ?

Well, according to Box Office Mojo-

Captain America: The First Avenger made $3,431,374
Captain America: Winter Soldier made $6,628,830

So, not that great but ,

Captain America : Civil War made $24,366,759

Cap 3 was essentially Avengers 2.5, going by the number of Marvel Heroes in that movie plus it had Spider-Man, which is always a plus in Japan.

A bit crazy that you can watch it at home before it comes out in the cinema at all.

it does happpen a lot these days, Logan, The Martians just to name a few.
heck, Ex Machina came out a year later! it's ridiculus.

i hate it when that happens because it's really hard to avoid spoilers but JL will come out in Nov so at least i don't have to worry about that lol

Oh you're from Japan. Sorry about your delayed film releases! :csad:

A whole year? That's just silly.

Crazy seeing this in the top 20 all time domestic. I hope the overseas grows well next time out.
