This is what I'm most worried about. That Fox will see complaints like this and start forcing them to be more generic blockbusters, without the deep dramatic plots that make X-Men so special.

There weren't any dramatic plot points in this movie. So horrible story + horrible action = horrible movie

The wire work from 90's Super Sentai was better than this horrible wire work in this movie. The fighting was extremely basic you swing then I swing. And the story was ridiculously cliche and convenient and incredibly predictable.

Singer can't handle anything above the exhibition or display of singular mutant powers.

And Wolverine stabbing people.

Yeah. It's worrisome.

I'm hard on this franchise because I love X-Men so much and its underachieving imo.

I do t want a MCU reboot because of the cast I actually like for some reason.

But FoX needs to work with Marvel.

AvX
XvA
Secret Wars

those movies would be bigger than any movie they could do without the other and the fan base wins.

Give back FF and get Animation/Video Ganes & Merch in return.

On XMA you have at least theme like memory-home-family-nature tied up together. The repress memory theme drive you to the unlishing power theme, the respinsabilty of creative/destructive power, it is a journey, accepting your dark side (Charle's mainly), letting go of control over woman and the fear of your dormant super power.

Now most of it is pretty straight forward in the surface but it is inherent to the characters and how they act, they form a whole. Wich is another point of the movie. Charles will blurr the frontiere beetwen his head, heart and home/family/mansion.

You have symbolizm with the tree/forest and the birds. It is also the reason of Alkali Lake. Logan represent the animal side, with no control. When Jean heal him by giving him some happy memory it is pretty deep.

First because it is what Charles will get to do in the end, if he had not hide Moira memory Apocalypse woulf never have come. (Plus Moira and Jean both interract with Apoc with fire).

Second because in every movie Logan end up stabbing woman in the stomach, and there he put out needles of his heart and stomach. No stabbing, improvement on different timeline.

Tere is analogy beetwen Erik and Charles, the first told everything to his wife where Charles kept everything hidden from Moira, Erik daughter can summon birds and Jean his a bird figure. In Jean's room when she has a nightmare we can see a picture above her bed of a tree burning (link this to scott and represent memory), mens with arrows and bird of papers. Next scene you have the daughter of erik summoning bird in the forest (treeeees!) and being killed by an arrow.

In Auschwitz to reveal Magneto power Apocalypse will speak of a forest he will birn to the ground. This work with Erik because the forest is a place of tragic memory and as usual he wippe out the bzd memories. In the opposite Charles accept the bad memory he do not get mzd when Scott destroy he family tree. He is compassionate and end up like a buddha. Bald and connected to the world around him.

Connectivness the super ego of Apocalypse wanted, despite him believing being a god he lack connectivity to others. Pretty human.

I'm curious, what do you guys deem as "too much" or "too little" action in a movie? I ask because the critical consensus deems this as "overloaded with action" but I just dont see where they got that from. The first half of this movie's pretty quiet and character orientated.

You just described this movie.

We also have to keep in mind that China's film industry is also growing and there might come a point where it's hard for foreign films to get enough screens.
The total number of screens is growing quickly too so it's more about which of those 2 grows more quickly relative to the other.

Exactly I don't think it's as doom and gloom as some are making it appear.

I agree, it's not anywhere near as gloomy as some people think. On the contrary, all the people I know who have seen X:A have loved it. It's been getting good word of mouth where I live despite mixed reviews. In the end, a lot of it has to do with personal taste. This movie will appeal to some people and not others. Mostly I think it appeals to those who love the various X-Men adventures from the comics and cartoons and who find that this movie reminds them of some of that magic.

Some people always try to spin a creative shakeup after a dissappointing movie as something bad.

"BvS failed, so now WB won't take any risks!"

"XMA failed, so now they're gonna make generic movies!"

How about you blame the filmmakers for delivering a dissappointing movie instead of blaming people for being divided/not liking it?

I think Whedon would have a better grasp on X Men.

How much does this need to make to turn a profit? When will Fox give up the rights to X Men? They can keep DP

It already turned a profit.
When the studio as a whole is in a worse position than Sony
or decides to not do X-men movies for a certain amount of years.

Well, it needs around 600 million to break even. Considering DoFP made like 750m WW and it was rumored to made a profit ot 77m or so. So DoFP broke even at 670m or so.

They won't give the rights of X-Men. They don't need to. A Spider-Man similar deal is a great option.
And no need to shoehorn Deadpool. He will stay as he is. Marvel was/is actually involved in it. The writers I remember them saying they needed Marvel permission to use Negasonic in the movie. And also Marvel promoted the movie in some capacity, via merchandise, etc.

I believe that FOX signed off on Negasonic after turning down Miller and Reynolds' request to use a number of other X-Men characters. In one interview the two discussed having discussions with Marvel, but that was probably in reference to Not-A-Helicarrier.

Yeah, prodably they had them discussions about the helicarrier.
But no, they said they have to talk with Marvel about Negasonic. :yay:

To be honest, this question holds so much truth.
People are all screaming "Fox won't do it", etc ... but really, why would Marvel do it?
I seriouslly believe Marvel would be the hard to get for the deal.
They already are doing Spider-Man movies, for Sony and Sony getting the cut. In return Spidey is showing in MarvelStudios-produced movies.
They are already hand full with Spidey.
Why would they do the same for F4/X-men? Because F4 and X-men can appear in their movies? Why? They have Guardians who are cosmic and no need for F4, and regarding X-Men they have Inhumans coming.
And F4/X-Men are barely in comics nowdays and merchandise and they aren't even in the animated universe (I remember F4 appearing in one episode of USM? And only Wolverine and Deadpool have appeared in other episodes. But no X-Men).
So yeah... I don't think Marvel are at least interested.
When you can tell they were always interested in Spidey.

Apocalypse costed $600 million in budget + marketing?
breaking even is getting back what you put in

No.. but you know studios don't get 100% of the money right?
They get 50% in USA, around 30-40% from the rest of the world and around 25% from China.
So yeah, the movie hasn't broke even.
Considering as I stated above, they made only 77m from DoFP's 750m

I don't know that they will give the rights to Marvel. Fox has a weaker relationship with Marvel than Sony did. Daniel Alter speculated that if it were not for Deadpool, then Fox would pursue a Sony-style deal.

But Sony did not have a lot of franchises and analysts thought they needed to bolster their intellectual property. And they needed Spider-Man to do big business.

Fox has Kingsman, Prometheus, Apes, and Avatar.

I think this movie won't break even. But, it's worth remembering participation fees were quite high on DOFP.
