The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 1

I'm currently in the middle of the moviebob review, and I'm getting a strong sense he did not enjoy the film.:oldrazz:

Have mercy. He went off :funny: I don't think I've ever heard a scathing, descriptive review like that ever.

I am curious about the sound. The Shape, is it as loud as Man of Steel? 70mm IMAX at The Palms in Las Vegas for Man of Steel was the loudest thing I have ever heard in a movie theater by a long shot. Irritatingly loud, deafeningly loud. I love surround sound, but at some point you don't want it to be so loud it feels like you are damaging your ears.

I did see Man of Steel a second time at a regular theater and the sound was much more tolerable, but it was funny as hell when I heard some ladies walking out of that show who thought THAT was too loud. I was thinking, "You haven't really heard it if you think that screening was too loud."

I'm seeing BvS in Regal's RPX format. Generally the sound is loud but not too crazy in that particular auditorium. Hopefully it will be OK.

It's definitely a loud and bombastic film at times, but no more than most other action tentpoles. I didn't see this one in 70mm IMAX (I saw it in Lie-MAX), but 70mm IMAX action movies tend to be VERY loud. I missed a lot of dialogue in Interstellar because the sound effects and mostly the musical score was so loud. It was similar when I saw TDKR in 70mm.

Damn, ya'll have really spoiled yourselves, huh?

I'm not 100% on RT scores. Thor: The Dark World has a pretty strong 78% rating, and I find it to be the SyFy Original Motion Picture of the MCU. Likewise, 2011's Conan with Mamoa is what I'd consider one of the best epic fantasies on screen and that thing's rotten by their ratings. On the other hand...

...I'd be lying if I said they didn't give me a nice bit of entertainment though - nothing like watching the peanut gallery hash it out. :funny:

TDK/TDKR weren't too bad in 70mm IMAX for me. Interstellar was very loud in LieMAX, probably second loudest movie I've seen behind Man of Steel. I'm hoping BvS is not too bad.

At this point it's not so much the score that gives me pause, so much as the thunderous condemnation some reviewers that I trust have leveled against it. I mean, it's getting savaged, no way around it.

On the other hand, solid mainstream critics like Roeper and Travers have given it good reviews.

But yeah, it's just unbelievable how much the mood has changed. I don't know if any pre-release reviews freakout compares to this...not MoS, not TDKR, not ASM-2. This is a whole new level with BvS.

I'd say it's pretty comparable to ASM2. Another movie that looked extraordinarily pretty.

I'd also be lying if I said the sharp divide weren't piquing my curiosity. Thanks for reminding me of the early reviews, Lobster. Between everything going on in meatspace, I had completely forgotten about those.

Ah yes, early twiiter reviews. Of course fanboys will NEVER learn and go gaga for the next film's early twitter reviews even though it signifies nothing.

Stuckmann's review is up on youtube. What he says about Eisenberg/Nic Cage had me dying. I almost hope it's true cuz i wanna laugh at SOMETHING in this movie. Even if it's for the wrong reasons. Even Chris mentioned the Bat spoiler that we've been talking about.

Perhaps, that's prob the closest example- but I think the expectations for this were even higher given that it's the first time Batman and Superman have ever shared the screen, the future of the DC Universe is riding on this, AND the fact that they had delayed the movie nearly a year and brought in Oscar-winning talent to rewrite the movie.

ASM-2 is a close example, but I just think the stakes are higher here.

That moviebob review was hilarious. WTF
do Batman and Superman really stop fighting because one finds out that the others mom was also named Martha? Are you ****in kidding me? Somebody please tell me that somehow that is well executed and this reviewer is not just picking apart the surface of that conclusion to the main fight?? And wait, do they really only fight one time for 5 minutes??

That is hilariously stupid.

Wow :funny:

I was drooling when I first read that. My mouth was open for that long without me knowing.

If there's one thing that could bring all of us together, it's this movie :funny:

Part of me wants to get a little tipsy before I go tomorrow.

It'll probably make you enjoy it more. I know i was pretty much in the bag when i saw MOS the second time and it made everything more hilarious and fun. I disrupted a whole row because of a stupid laughing fit that left me in tears for 10 minutes straight over something f**kin stupid (and i hate being disrupted myself during a movie). It was during the scene where there's a closeup of Jonathan Kent putting down that pot of coffee, and my stupid friend leans over and whispers "Oswald CostnerPott" and i f**kin lost it for some reason. I guess i was too giddy. That poor row behind me. Worst timing because it was during the emotional Clark/Jonathan scene at the farm. I felt like the character in Mask of the Phantasm who can't stop laughing in his bedroom.

I should stay sober this time.

It's amazing how much this flipped. Yesterday afternoon it was looking like positive reviews were coming in, then it turned predominantly negative. I don't just mean critically. A lot of the regular reviews, fan reviews etc have been slamming it, or lukewarm to it.

This is why I like to read spoilers. I am prepared for things I may dislike. It softens the blow/disappointment. If it's something I'll love, then it gives me something to anticipate. So win win either way for me.

None of us are asking the big question.

Does Batfleck say "IM BATMAN!"?

I think he says "Hi, I'm Batman" as he slides down a dinosaur skeleton.

Score dropped, both for audience and for critics.
I wanted to say I expected this to happen after reading Eisenberg completely complimenting this movie's script, and more after reading someone (I think it was Terrio?) saying he knew Eisenberg since he was young, and if he compliments something, it must be good.
But nah, I did not expect this to happen.
